Is Toontown Morning Madness worth it?
Other than early entry to the two rides and the character houses, what else happens there?
And is Toontown really that crowded that you can't do this stuff during the day?
I know Roger Rabbit has a FastPass and the houses are simply walk-thrus so I can't imagine they get really backed up (other than the character spots).
Am I wrong?

They did an opening ceremony and picked a family to be the grand marshall family or some such thing when we went in April 06. Otherwise yes, it's pretty much just some time with the characters with smaller lines. And you'd be surprised, in the summer months ToonTown is really busy.......especially the house walk thrus.

Mickey's house is just a cute-ish line for meet/greet, and it can get very backed up. Minnie's is at least cute and semi-interactive (kitchen), but it's sometimes used as part of the line for MIckeys'.

DS got us picked as the TT family of the day and even with that I can't imagine doing TTMM again. They didn't even take a photopass picture of us. Then again, the heavens opened up and it started pouring right after we said we were from Tacoma, and everyone went running for Mickey's house, so who knows what might have happened on a sunny day.

yes the lines in toontown can get long - in my opinion the coaster is not worth waiting in line for, and neither is Roger Rabbit. On our first trip we stood in line for Mickey for 2 HOURS!!! Never again! And if that RR line is out the front door, it's AT LEAST an hour long! Morning Madness is fun with little kids once imo - We were the family of the day once too - it was fun, but I agree with the pp that it was ridiculous that they didn't even take a photopass of us!! :confused3 Anyway - if you just want toontown with no lines go in the evening - everything is a walk on and there is NO ONE there (at least that's how it's been every time we have done it)

any tips on getting picked to be the special family?

My DD is obsessed with all things Mickey and Friends and Toontown Morning Madness is a big priority event for us.

we were just in the right place right time I think - coming away from meeting pluto - right in front roger rabbit almost - guy with a clipboard walked up to us and started talking to us! A note - if you get picked -find someone to take your picture!!! I wish I had!

We came in to TT, and DS was in his pirate gear. He saw Mickey out signing autographs (near the gag factory area), and went running for Mickey with his arms open. Then he noticed the Jolley Trolley over to his left, decided that was more interesting, and veered off for the vehicle.

Some CMs noticed him, and as I parked the stroller I noticed them talking with hubby and son, asking if we'd like to be the family.

So it's a right place/right time thing, and a *get noticed* thing.

If DS had listened and been walking as we tell him, he might not have gotten it, LOL. So he got rewarded for breaking the rules! :faint:

By the way, if you are chosen, and IF you are a family with multiple last names (as we are...hubby and I kept our own last names, and DS is hypenated), know that when they ask your name, they are writing that last name down on a scroll thing (keepsake). They asked me, they got MY last name, and they wrote it so big I can't add on inconspicuously. So be thorough, if you're chosen and you have different last names.

We went during the Holidays a couple of years back, and decided we wanted a picture with Mickey. That line is deceptive.., once it hits the door it wraps and winds and can take a long time. 40 minutes into it we were at the door and saw it was going slow, but we had invested 40 minutes so we waited.., 40 minutes later we wished we had left @ the original 40 but were nearing the end (we thought) so we stuck it out. We were in line for almost 2 hours.

But, we got the best! picuture with Mickey. It was really cute.

It's nice to get into the park early.., I have to see Mickey.., and it's fun to get it done without the wait. I agree the coaster and RR are not worth the wait.., but I do love to go on everything when we visit.., and if you go for MM there is usually no real wait.

It depends how much you like your sleep. We're going next week and I'm debating if I will go to MM or just sleep in and really get my vacation time.., I think the park will be pretty slow next week on the weekdays.., if it's slow then I'm snoozing. :faint:

Molly, I knew there was a reason I liked you! We kept our own names too. Before we had kids we always said we'd hyphenate, but when the time came we gave the girls his name. I don't regret it...I figured if I didn't want to have a hyphenated name they might not either. They can always change their names when they're adults.

Sorry to highjack.

continuing off topic, move along, has nothing to do with toontown!

:)

We hyphenated b/c he didn't want his family to freak out if they found out we'd used just my name. His father was much older and very into the "you're the last male of my line" stuff (the oldest son is both from a different father AND he's gay with no urges to procreate in any way, so it was all on Robert), so it was mega-important to him. MIL, even though she's from a culture where women keep their names, had been brought over to the American side entirely when she married Russ, and is almost worse than her (now late) husband. They were never actually told that we hyphenated DS, or even that I kept my last name...when we got married we had a week before the honeymoon, and one of the things we did was to go to the bank and file a copy of our marriage license, to ensure that they would take a check made out to all sorts of combinations. My family just can't figure out either of our names, and his family only uses hubby's last name...then when Eamon came along we visited the bank again to put into the file that they would take whatever name. Crazy.

But after FIL died and we started finding out more and more what sort of person he was, well, hubby's getting closer and closer to taking MY name and dropping his own, or hyphenating as well, to lose or water down his dad's name. The males from that family were just not good men...

Molly, I understand...my dh is the youngest and only son of an Asian family (half Japanese, half Chinese.) There are lots of things I understand, but don't agree with. I think dh feels the same way, but his loyalty keeps him from standing apart.
