Backstory - I've been walking for a few weeks, no real diet to speak of, lost 6lbs and felt great everytime I walked. Sticking to it for once...then I went on vacation to visit family. Gained 4lbs :sad2: Now it is raining every other day so not walking as much. Been debating past few days about a diet and decided to try Medifast.

So anyone done it? Want to do it? I found a $50off code online (sep30h) and placed the order this morning  They said I could get it by Friday!

Would love to do it but they said one of the side effects is hair loss. I've already lost a lot of hair from having DD and other health issues so I'm a little wary.

Really?! had not heard that  I hope not since I already shed like a Collie...

From what I read is was due to the lack of vitamins and nutrients. I'm not sure what's allowed as supplements, maybe there will be a pamphlet when you get your package. I'd be really interested in knowing what it says.

My hairdresser did it and lost about 60 pounds - and she lost hair as well. She said taking flax helped with the hair loss.

But she has also started regaining weight now that she is not eating the Medifast products anymore.

It does say it is one of the possible side effects (hair loss) and to take either flaxseed oil, fish oil or biotin (vitamin B complex) if this happens. I went today and got some biotin :thumbsup2

If anyone wants to know what the food is like let me know and I can post or PM you what I have had so far :thumbsup2

I already take flaxseed oil (which reminds me I need more) and Vitamin D for my hair and skin, it does make a big difference. I also use Surface hair care products from my salon, they are vegan and help keep the scalp prepped for hair growth.

How does it taste so far? Did you pick and choose meals or did you let them do it for you?

I picked the meals but looked at their basic package to have an idea what amount of each to order. So far (3 days) I have tried bars, shakes, chili, eggs, chocolate pudding, brownie, pizza sticks and cinnamon pretzel sticks.

If you have tried the SlimFast shakes theirs are very similar in taste, the SF ones are thicker but that could just be that I added ice before I used the blender. The southwestern eggs are awesome, had my doubts about powdered eggs but they were pretty good.

The regular bars are very dry, the lemon is the best of the bunch (I tried chocolate and caramel). They do have a maintenace bar which was pretty good (choc/caramel). The brownie and pudding also remind me of other diet desserts - they have a slight funky flavor but not inedible. Skip the chili :sad2: And really skip the pretzels and pizza sticks - they look good in the picture but taste like cardboard.

We went grocery shopping today and got more veggies than I thought we ever would :thumbsup2 I still have a couple of other things to taste - got a little bit of everything to try out - and will stick with it for the month but doubt I would order again. It is a lot of food and most is not very good. But if it helps me lose weight, motivates me to eat more veggies and to walk more then it was worth it :goodvibes

Of course DH is not helping as he sits next to me with a heaping plate of potato skins :headache: they smell sooooo good...

I take topamax for my migraines and being an anti-seizure medication, it causes hair loss. To minimize hair loss, I take both selenium and biotin, in addition to 3000mg of fish oil a day (I also grind up 2 tablespoons of fresh flaxseeds in a coffee grinder and sprinkle in my smoothies, on my cereal, oatmeal, or salad. I have a noticed a HUGE difference in the amount of hair loss, the inflammation from my arthritis (I have rheumatoid arthritis) has decreased significantly, my mood has improved (most likely from the fish oil - we prescribe it all the time at the mental health clinic I am a nurse in), and my cholesterol has dropped 35 points while my HDL has increased to high 60's. I'm a big believer in supplements!

So try some selenium and biotin....just watch the amount of selenium; don't overdo it because in huge amounts, it can be toxic. I can't remember off the top of my head the amount I take, but it's one pill a day. The biotin is 900mcg a day (3 little capsules a day). I get most of my supplements from the vitaminshoppe.com, especially when they have their Buy One, Get One half off (which they are doing right now).

That is great to hear! So far I have lost 6 lbs (2 weeks tomorrow) but I have only been able to exercise about 4 days :headache: I am hoping the next couple of weeks are less hectic and I can get back to walking and some exercise videos. I did the Jillian Michaels Shred and it nearly killed me :rolleyes1 but I am not giving up!
