I love babies as much as the next guy, but you should see the registry I'm faced with for an upcoming baby shower.

Trendy stuff up the wazoo.

John Lennon collection lamp - looks like any other baby lamp, BUT it has John Lennon's signature on it.

And that, my friends, is just the beginning.

What on God's green earth do these people think, that their baby is going to KNOW it has a JOHN LENNON LAMP????:p

What, you don't want the newborn to be fashionable? :teeth:

I looked at the John Lennon collection when I was pregnant. I thought it was adorable. Had someone not given me their baby bedding, I probably would have gotten it.

I have seen the John Lennon nursery stuff and I think it is cute! I am not a fan of his, but the animal drawings are adorable. :D If I were pregnant, I would definitely consider getting it - and I am not a Lennon fan.

John Lennon collection lamp for a baby, that's just plain ridiculous!!! :faint:

Can you post a picture?

If there was ANYTHING "classic pooh" at the FOUR stores this girl registered at...it was on her registry.

thankfully I didn't have to go to the shower...I got my invitation the DAY OF the shower.

talk about being invited for a gift (it was my friend's, brother's, girlfriend) I had only met her twice in the past year maybe.

Was it this?

Here is the bedding.

I don't consider this incredibly trendy - this line has been out for a couple of years. They could have picked much more exclusive and trendy as well as expensive stuff than this, but they wouldn't have been from any place like Target or Babies R US - ie. upscale baby stores.

I actually like the John Lennon collection. I had never seen it until my own baby shower when someone gave me a couple of John Lennon collection outifts/onsies. They were really cute. I also don't think it's that trendy. Everyone has their own ideas of what they want their baby's nursery to look like. It's obviously more for the parent than the baby.

Thanks for the pics Tamie. :)

The lamp is quite cute, but I don't like the cot bedding at all.

I think Sears even carries the John Lennon collection. It's made by Carters. I think a lot of the stuff is quite cute.

Pretty much all my friends have chosen one pattern or another as the "theme" for their nursery. It actually makes shopping for the new wee ones much easier, imho.

This line has been out for quite awhile!! My son is now 6, and we had the mobile.... It was too cute and it played my favorite song... IMAGINE!! My son and daughter went to sleep every night to that song . I also have some of the clothing ! Sorry but We love it!!:o

I had some John Lennon stuff for my youngest, mostly onesies and other clothing.

I asked for so much stuff with my first baby that I realized was crap by the time my second rolled around. From strollers that didn't fold up easily to diaper genies to sterling silver baby spoons, all of it got ditched for the more practical receiving blankets, onesies and bibs. My one "luxury" item for my youngest was a snuggli -- both of my boys loved that thing so much more than they did a swing, vibrating chair, etc. Back to the basics was so much easier!!

If the lamp is the one pictured above, I don't think it is too trendy. If the signature is emblazoned accross the whole lampshade, that's ridiculous.

BTW it is so difficult to find gender neutral anything when looking for a baby shower gift. Even 5 years ago when I had DD, I had a tough time finding something that was not pink or blue or blatantly commercialized ( I didn't want a character). Since most people know the sex of their babies before they are born, most newborn things are tailored to either a boy or a girl.

The Lennon collection seems pretty neutral to me. Maybe that is why they picked it.

Wow...that's not "trendy" at all...it's adorable!

But I'm guessing that it's Yoko who OK'd this??

You'd think my mom would remember that! She keeps asking what bedding set I'll be registering for. I hate to tell her we're just getting a couple different colored sheets.

I gotta tell ya that while you have a significant right to complain about the receipt of the invitation - there is no reason to call registering for the John Lennon collection as trendy. In fact it is most definately not trendy. I can give you trendy up the wazoo and it will make you gag. At least you can look at the lamp price and not throw up. Trust me when I say this is not bad at all. Let me give you examples of what I have been up against at some prior baby showers:

Posh Tots handpainted crib: $2,550.00
Celestial Wall Hanging to match crib: $1,299
Children's Polar Fleece Blankets: $70
Silver Cross Balmoral Pram: $2,800
Chandelier: $870
Blue Bird Crib Linens: $1,338

Saying no to the RSVP to the invitation: Priceless.

Let's just say, that due to the bootloads of disposable income first time parents other than me apparently have, you can really say, the sky's the limit when it comes to buying for the wee one.

Castlegazer - those gifts are insane!! OMG!

Annette - that lamp is a bargain ;) lol! I love the poshtots website, I like looking at it to find the most outrageous stuff! Actually, they have some cute ideas that most people could duplicate themselves at a much more reasonable price.
