Too Old For Disney????

Not sure where to post this so I chose to ask my fellow Canadians We have done Disney 3x and Universal 3x. The next trip, if pattern continues, would be Disney in 2016. My boys will however be 14 and 12. My husband is sure that they will be too old and not into Disney anymore…

Thoughts?

Depends on them, I guess. There's lots for older kids and young adults to do. Maybe let them have some time on their own since they know their way around already?

Ours were in their early 20's the last time we all went. Don't know when, but I'm sure we'll all go again at some point.

Our kids started visiting WDW when they were in kindergarten. Continued right through elementary and high school. They're now in their 30s and still going ( on their own dime now). I never heard a whine or a moan out of them whenever we announced an upcoming trip. Quite the reverse.

I've read of some "I'm too cool for Disney" teens. I don't think they are all that common. I see lots of teens and young twenty somethings in the parks. Once they're in their mid teens, though, I think its time to lengthen the leash and let them have a lot more independence in the parks.

I'm a parent of 2 teens and an almost teen. They all still love going. It's all about finding new things that are age appropriate and that we've never done before. With them being older, you can enjoy late nights at the parks more and sleep in in the mornings. The parks have a completely different feel at 11pm that may be more appealing to teens. They have less generic interests and more individual interests at that age so you need to find things that appeal to where they are. My 14-year-old daughter loves doing the Epcot international pavilions that she would have never done when younger.

My 19 year old has no interest in Disney.....unless its the character breakfast at Ohana.

Universal and SeaWorld, he loves. OP, have you considered a SeaWorld parks trip for something different? (SeaWorld, Aquatica, Discovery Cove, Busch Gardens?)

We're fortunate that our kids enjoy Disney as much as we do. My son is 15 and shows no signs of pulling away. Everyone is different though. As someone who enjoys the thrill rides that US offers, I can see the draw to that park.

Depends on your teens. My teen DD's help with the trip planning, so that keeps them happy and involved. They get to help choose the ADR's, extra activities like hot air balloon ride, la Nouba, horseback riding and park days. DD16 has requested a couple of sleep in days and DD13 loves to swim and has requested a couple of pool days. We go for 2 weeks so it's a nice length of time to give everyone what they want. I think that if teens can be a part of the planning process it will help keep them interested. I think my DD's will continue going to Disney when they become adults too. They have the 'Disney fever'.
We've also cruised with Disney a couple of times to keep it interesting and different.

why not ask the kids if they think they are to old for Disney rather then make an assumption based on there ages?

I have DS 15 and DD almost 13 and given the choice they would probably choose to do a park other than the Magic Kingdom. They are not totally 'too cool' for Disney but are more selective on which of the parks they would want to attend. That said they jumped at the chance of going to Discovery Cove again in August and if were given the choice would choose to go to Universal and IOA.

I agree with previous post and ask them what they would like to do, and maybe have some options to help make this choice.

Our first family visit was in 1989. Other than a 5 year hiatus for my son, they (DS and DD) have always loved Disney..... so much that DVC was needed. Now a 2BR is not enough room for children/grandchildren. Love the Disney family vacations

We are having a ball . Weather has been superb, crowds have been light, and the parks have been a ton of fun. We are definitely not going to want to go home on Friday night!!

Well, I'm 35 and still love Disney World, so they may have a few more decades left in 'em.

I agree as an adult I never get bored or fed-up with going to Disney. My first trip was age 26! I just think that kids go through the whole 'too cool' situation without realising what they might be missing!

My girls are 14 and are super excited to go back to Disney this summer. We are travelling with friends so they will be there with 5 other kids and are looking forward to some freedom this trip to hang with the kids rather than the adults. I'm still hoping they will want to spend some time with us too!

I guess it depends on your boys, but when our now son-in-law was dating our daughter we took him with us for his first Disney experience. He loved it, even though he was an adult. Preferred it to cruising AND honeymooned there.

Both our kids are in there 30's and.never.lost thier love of all things.Disney.......now the.grandkids are learning the same.things.
