"too much" green tea?

I think any caffeinated substance (green tea, black tea, coffee, soda) consumed in excess is probably a bad idea. Moderation is key.

I remember reading that one of the probable reasons Terri Schiavo collapsed is because she was drinking like 15 glasses of iced tea a day and her body couldn't handle it in combination with her dieting.

I drink Ito En green white tea.

I drink about 4 or 5 glasses a day. It has no sweetener at all.

I also drink the lemon green tea from Teavana at times, but not as often as Ito En.

I've read volumes of info on green tea, and have never heard of any of the bad effects that were mentioned in this thread. Anyone have any links that explain these issues any further?

I drink about 1 glass a day of green tea, it seems to help me get rid of a migraine if I catch it early enough so I know there has to be a ton of caffeine in it!!!

I have hypothyroidism, why should people with thyroid issues avoid tea?
The truth is that Fluoride is well known and clinically proven to have an adverse affect on the Thyroid.

As I mentioned, there are a lot of bad things about green tea. (black tea is only slightly better) With the Thyroid issues, the problem is the huge amount of Flouride in green tea. Way more than the levels allowed in our drinking water. Green tea, especially when prepared with flouridated water, is nothing less than toxic. MANY times any acceptable level.

Fluoride is a known Toxin, identified and regulated by the EPA. Unfortunately, the FDA has yet to come onboard.

I suspect that most of what you have read has been promoted by those who stand to make money by selling green tea, or supplements that contain green tea. Follow the money.

To be honest, the caffeine would be the very last of my concerns with green tea.

I've had two surgeries in the last few months. Both times at pre-surgical testing I was told not to drink any green tea at least 48 hours before the surgery. I don't usually drink green tea so I didn't ask why. :confused3

I have hypothyroidism as well. I was told by my endocrinologist that loose tea is better than the bags - black, red, green, and white teas are perfectly fine in moderation. He prefers I reuse the tea instead of preparing a fresh bag or spoonful of loose tea.

 I'm thinking you should return to the true Nectar of the Gods and buy fat free or sugar free creamer to put into it.

Sorry but a little bit of antioxident does not begin to hide the fact that green tea is full of other things that are NOT good for you. There are better ways to get your antioxidents.

Read up on fluoride... It is a toxin. Flouridated areas show no decrease in dental caries over non-fluoridate areas. And even the ADA is finally admitting that infants should NOT have the stuff.

If you have any thyroid issues at all, you should not drink green tea (or black tea either)

:thumbsup2

I opened up this thread never expecting to be told this! Thank you in advance. I drink countless cups of green tea. I never had any idea that it was not healthy for me. The only perceived negative was that my throat was so dry after drinking a cup. Hmmmmm. I'm going to cut back now.

I allow myself one bag of green tea per day and keep reusing it and reusing it all day long. Could be 5+ cups on a typical day. So is that dangerous? one tea bag, multiple uses?

Good to know. DH and I are in the South, so it almost goes without saying that there is always sweet tea in the house. Thanks for the information. Looks like I'll be cutting back on my tea drinking.

Crankyshank- where do you get your loose tea? Do you just use an infuser to make your tea with when you use the loose? (I've never had it that way and have always thought it would be fun to try) :)
