ok I have some dining questions and am looking for help. So, in no particular order......

**THE SCENARIO** 9 of us (6 adults, 2 under 10, 1 under 3) in a GV at OKW last week of January 09. 2 adults and 3 kids have never been. PLANNING on DDP, depending on any upcoming changes. Renting points.

1. Will the grat be included since the party is so large?

2. Are mugs worth it?

3. When do the rates normally come out?

4. Am I correct in that I can't make ADRs till October?

5. Can you charge tip to your room key (assuming that the new plan will not include tip)?

6. Are ala carte items included? (In other words, a normal restaurant would charge $2.99 ish to add a salad to your entree. Is this included? how does that work? If I want mushrooms on my steak am I gonna pay extra?

7. How do I add DDP if I am renting points? I will not be buying a "package". I was planning on purchasing tix from Undercover.

Thanks for you help, disers!

1. gratuity is never included except at HDDR,CRT and MBYB. now when you eat as a party of 6 or more an 18% gratuity will be added to your bill.
2. i dont think so. they dont hold much and are only fillable at your resort. but i suppose if you need coffee every morning, they may pay for themselves. i dont drink coffee, and i would never drink that much soda.
3.early to mid august
4. that i dont know, call and be sure i know there are osme you can definately.
5. yes
6. you would pay extra for the salad, its an appetizer. the mushrooms would be subject to the restaurant, but probably not.
7. dont know.

imthatgirl pretty much covered it. to get ddp at a dvc you have to go through dvc services to add it. dining is only taking reservations up until 1/25

1/25 is my first day, so I can make ressies for that day?

1. Yes
2. I think so, but if you would rather, get a case of waterbottles and sodas and stick them in your fridge.
3. august
4. 180 days before your trip normally but I know they are changing the system right now...so I'm not certain
5. Yes
6. Yes, you would pay OOP for a la carte and the tip would be 18% on everything
7. you can't but I think you can buy the DDE card which basically saves you the price of the tip. You can only get the DDP if you're on the MYW package, which you won't be if you're renting points from a DVC holder.

The gentleman who is renting me the points said something about being able to add the DDP upto 48 hrs. in advance? I guess if we cant, then all of the above questions are answered! Thanks!

it will not be "included" as in paid for if you have the DDP, but it will be billed to you when you receive your check at 18%

2. Are mugs worth it?
it depends on how much resort time you are planning... we are travelling w/a baby this trip so we will be spending more time at the resort than in the past, therefore we consider them to be worth it this trip... last trip at CBR with a room a zillion miles away from the food court they would not have been worth it

3. When do the rates normally come out?
ditto all the august responses... of course that's what has been done historically... can disney change it up? of course they can... they're disney! LOL!

4. Am I correct in that I can't make ADRs till October?
because of the new system it seems that you cannot make any dining ressies past 1/25/09 'til october... but october will be here soon enough!

5. Can you charge tip to your room key (assuming that the new plan will not include tip)?
yes you can...

6. Are ala carte items included? (In other words, a normal restaurant would charge $2.99 ish to add a salad to your entree. Is this included? how does that work? If I want mushrooms on my steak am I gonna pay extra?
ala carte items are not included... we paid extra for side dishes at lecellier and at artist point... but they're worth it ;)

7. How do I add DDP if I am renting points? I will not be buying a "package". I was planning on purchasing tix from Undercover.
you can definitely add DDP as a DVC renter... i'm not sure of the logistics, you may want to check on the dvc boards

ENJOY!

i think you should go to the dvc group and ask how to add it there. they will know exactly how it works.

Since you are renting DVC points the owner of the points has to add DDP to your ressie at least 48 hours in advnace. You will at checkin for the DDP when you are staying on points

Have you checked out the DIS Menus? Disney restaurants don't have the typical add on a soup or salad for 2.99 extra. It is considered an appy and not included in the DDP.

Are you an AP holder? Have you looked into getting a DDE card? (i know more choices!)

With DDE you get 20% off at most TS restaurants, including alcohol. Some find it a better deal than DDP. You can then order an appy or 2 for the table, order a dessert or 2 for the table and not be confined to the DDP guidelines. As an AP holder, we prefer that and it adds to our flexibility. We did a family trip for 9 last Sept and the DDE worked out great for our family. Just another thought...

have fun planning and let us know how it goes!
