Hi everyone! I am new to all of this, but I must say I wish I had found you guys years ago. My husband is an avid Disney lover and during our 10 years of marriage, we have tried to get there every 2-3 years. We have a large family of 5 kids which makes finding lodging extremely difficult and expensive. We're planning a trip next June, but could be flexible and go in July. My husband has his heart set on AKV. It looks like we would need in excess of 360 points though. We'd like to stay from a Tuesday through the next Wednesday if at all possible. My understanding is you can book 11 months out if it's your "home" resort so we thought we'd check early on. Thanks for taking the time to read this post and I appreciate any advice you can give.

If you need to rent points no it is not too early. There is a rent/trade board here in the DVC forum, just make sure to read all the stickies before making a post.

You should have started searching for that many points last month if you want to do June of next year. You could still look for July points, but there are going to be fewer people with that many AKV points available for rent yet.

Keep in mind that you will be entering a private arrangement with a DVC member - Disney will not be involved in your agreement.

Most DVC Members who rent points consider the transaction to be non-refundable, so be very sure you understand the member's change/cancellation policy before you send any money. With 5 children, things can happen, so even though you can reserve 11 months prior to the start of your vacation, you may not want to do so.

I'm not so sure you need to book as far ahead as the others suggest to get a 2 bedroom unit at the AKV. The first phase of the Kidani Building will be open by then, and that will add quite a few 2 bedroom units to the members' inventory. I'd suggest booking before the 7 month window opens, though - just in case.

Renting can be a tremendous bargain, but there are some risks you will need to take to get the savings.

Good luck!
