Too Early for Christmas?

My honey and I have spend the better part of two evenings wrapping Christmas presents. We purchased the majority of them at the after Christmas sales last year. We picked up a few minor things along the way, but the bulk was purchased during the post holiday sales.

We have 16 people outside of the two of us to purchase stuff for. Most of the presents will be delivered to their owners when we are in FL in December. The stuff for Gabby's Dad, Ron, & StepMom, Rosie, will be sent home with them when they leave our house after Thanksgiving dinner.

Are we the only people that have this much of a jump on Christmas? I mentioned this to my coworkers and they thought I was speaking Martian or something. They also said it was rednecky to start attaching the Christmas lights to the eaves of the roof. We have a new house and have never had to do this before, so tomorrow's endeavor should be interesting. I personally see nothing wrong with hanging them at this point, but they will not be turned on until Thanksgiving night. We will remove them after Christmas. Next weekend the tree goes up in the Disney room. We won't light it up on a regular basis until Thanksgiving either.

I guess I would not be questioning all this so much except that Gabby was pestering me today about the decorations that I was buying for Thanksgiving. We have never entertained for a major holiday before. Ron & Rosie are great. We have spent several holidays at their home up in NC. But, it's not fair to have them do everything year after year. So, today, I was buying table centerpiece parts...I created my own.....placemats, napkins, napkin rings, a turkey platter, and a few other odds and ends. Nothing major.....most of it on clearance even, but Gabby felt that I was making too much out of it. I just think that I am creating a nice look for the table and dining area.

Maybe I am just too tired, but am I over doing it? We will be in FL for almost 9 days in December, so the only person enjoying our decorations will be our friend who is house/pet sitting for us.....and he will not care. lol I guess I just want to do it all right.....or right in my own mind. lol Maggie

Don't worry about it. Hey where I live, some people keep Christmas lights up year round and they have them on. :earseek:

Hey as long as they're not lit, who cares if you hang them a bit early? The heck with the neighbors's.I've been working on mine these past two days. So no I don't think you're overdoing it.

It would make me feel a bit better about being out there so early if my neighbor's didn't still have their skeletons and pumpkins still outside!

Thanks guys! We did not get the lights put up today. It was raining first thing this morning, so we focused on putting out all the internal decorations and finishing the last of the wrapping! We decided against doing the big tree this year. We have three small trees in various locations that look just adorable though. Hopefully, we will be able to get those outdoor lights up next weekend. It's nice to know that it's all coming together. Maybe we can actually enjoy the holiday since we are prepared so far in advance this year. Maggie
