Only one pic from the park this time. My brother Dylan was visiting from Chicago last week and I took him to DL and CA on Saturday for his birthday (he's never been to CA). We were there from 7:00 a.m. till 12:30 a.m. -- 17.5 hours! We walked more than 27,000 steps -- approx. 12.5 miles. It was a tiring but fantastic day.
Despite the park being packed -- I've never seen it more slammed -- so many great things happened. Here are merely a few:
• We were at the front of the rope drop but had to skip PP because Saturday was an EMH day. But just before getting in line for Snow White at around 8:30, I saw Brian, a CM that I recognized. He’s always been especially kind to me on Mr. Toad and has let me ride it several times without getting off. He recognized me as well and asked my brother if he’d like a birthday present. He then walked us directly onto PP. Great start to the day.
• Just after lunch, Dylan started to feel sick. I went to First Aid and they gave me some Pepto-Bismol tablets. They said that if he didn’t feel better, they’d let him come lie down in their sick bay. He took them up on the offer a little later and we were escorted to a cool, quiet room with about twelve beds. After a thirty-minute nap, he felt fully restored. Never even knew that was there, even after more than 100 visits.
• Dylan’s never been on Soarin'. We got FPs at 2:00 with an 8:00 return time. He absolutely loved the ride -- he was truly blown away. Afterwards, I spoke to Diego, a Soarin' CM, and he was so taken with Dylan’s enthusiasm – and it being his birthday – that not only did he let us ride again, but he also escorted us to the best seat on Soarin! Dylan later said it was the coolest ride he’s ever done. Magic!
• We didn’t have FPs for Guardians and the standby time was 105 minutes. Again, Dylan’s never been to CA and wanted to ride it. I explained our situation to a CM at the FP line and she very kindly let us in. I’m not a fan of rapid drops but Dylan loved it.
• We finished Guardians and bolted back to DL for the fireworks. Moments after we set foot on Main Street, they started. We had a great view and the show was amazing.
• We then made for Fantasmic! Dylan’s never seen that either. Despite arriving mere minutes before kickoff, we somehow managed to get a great spot and had a nearly unobstructed view of the show. Such a great time.
• We started and ended the day with Mr. Toad, a family favorite since first riding it at DW in 1976.
Overall, it was an exhausting day but crammed full of magic. Any of my future solo trips will pale by comparison.
