Tons of magic last Saturday at DL!

Only one pic from the park this time. My brother Dylan was visiting from Chicago last week and I took him to DL and CA on Saturday for his birthday (he's never been to CA). We were there from 7:00 a.m. till 12:30 a.m. -- 17.5 hours! We walked more than 27,000 steps -- approx. 12.5 miles. It was a tiring but fantastic day.

Despite the park being packed -- I've never seen it more slammed -- so many great things happened. Here are merely a few:

• We were at the front of the rope drop but had to skip PP because Saturday was an EMH day. But just before getting in line for Snow White at around 8:30, I saw Brian, a CM that I recognized. He’s always been especially kind to me on Mr. Toad and has let me ride it several times without getting off. He recognized me as well and asked my brother if he’d like a birthday present. He then walked us directly onto PP. Great start to the day.

• Just after lunch, Dylan started to feel sick. I went to First Aid and they gave me some Pepto-Bismol tablets. They said that if he didn’t feel better, they’d let him come lie down in their sick bay. He took them up on the offer a little later and we were escorted to a cool, quiet room with about twelve beds. After a thirty-minute nap, he felt fully restored. Never even knew that was there, even after more than 100 visits.

• Dylan’s never been on Soarin'. We got FPs at 2:00 with an 8:00 return time. He absolutely loved the ride -- he was truly blown away. Afterwards, I spoke to Diego, a Soarin' CM, and he was so taken with Dylan’s enthusiasm – and it being his birthday – that not only did he let us ride again, but he also escorted us to the best seat on Soarin! Dylan later said it was the coolest ride he’s ever done. Magic!

• We didn’t have FPs for Guardians and the standby time was 105 minutes. Again, Dylan’s never been to CA and wanted to ride it. I explained our situation to a CM at the FP line and she very kindly let us in. I’m not a fan of rapid drops but Dylan loved it.

• We finished Guardians and bolted back to DL for the fireworks. Moments after we set foot on Main Street, they started. We had a great view and the show was amazing.

• We then made for Fantasmic! Dylan’s never seen that either. Despite arriving mere minutes before kickoff, we somehow managed to get a great spot and had a nearly unobstructed view of the show. Such a great time.

• We started and ended the day with Mr. Toad, a family favorite since first riding it at DW in 1976.

Overall, it was an exhausting day but crammed full of magic. Any of my future solo trips will pale by comparison.

What an amazing story!!! It makes me feel so happy to read about the kind of magic you experienced. What a great brother you are, too :)

I so enjoyed your mini report (and all your posts/updates actually)!

It does my heart so good to hear that you had a great time despite the crowds, and your brother got to experience some of the magic!!

Thank you! We had a blast! But honestly, I'm still a little tired. I think I got too much sun. Such a great time, though.

Thank you! I always try to make his visits memorable. I was able to get us into a famous recording studio where Nirvana recorded "Nevermind." That was a surprise for him on his first day. So many other cool things but maybe that's for another post. Gotta finally get moving :-)!

WOW!!! Now that's totally awesome :) Thanks so much for sharing!

Great pic! Sounds like you and your brother had a great time! Woohoo. The sun can drain you like nobody's business. I hope you feel 100% soon and back taking pictures.

Thanks! Nearly there. Heard it was 107 at the park yesterday. It'll only be 81 this Sunday and I'll spend only half as much time there.

As an unrelated aside, my favorite CM left recently after working there for six years. The park won't be the same without her :-(.

WOW! We are having warmer weather here in AZ, but 107 at the park must have been miserable for many people. We are just in the high 90s. Whenever a CM leaves, a little bit of pixy dust goes as well. The plus is, the job where she is headed is gaining a great employee, right?

Hi WonkaKid,

I've read many of your posts over many months - your pictures, stories, etc. You are always so positive and looking to spread magic yourself. It seems to me that all those nice things you do for others got directed back for both of you! It's great to hear about so much magic - especially for a birthday and a first visit (at least a first for one of the parks)! I hope the heat settles down for you and everyone else there!

Thank you very much! The past two days have been challenging for various reasons. Reading this has cheered me greatly. Thanks for your post and for your kind words.

Along the lines of your post, there was a grumpy, taciturn guy I worked with many years ago back in Chicago. I was always nice to him -- as I always try to be nice to everyone. Seems he appreciated it. When he passed about ten years ago, I learned that he'd left me a considerable chunk of money. That was -- and still is -- one of the biggest surprises of my life.

I'll return to DL this Sunday and plan to take/post a number of pics. Wish me luck on Buzz!
