Ring in the New Year with your DIS friends! Join us Saturday for DIS New Year's Eve chat in the ABD chat room beginning at 8 PM EST. Talk about your hopes for 2012 and your predictions and reaction to Disney's big announcement.

See you there!

I think the better question is probably who is going to make it all the way to midnight (without a nap)? ;)

I vote we ban butterbeer because of its sugar content. I'll bring the cokes.

I will try to join in, not sure if I can make it to midnight. I have to be at work on Sunday at 8 am. I can just keep chanting "Time and a half" and hope it is slow on Sunday.

I hope you guys won't mind if a newbie drops in.
I'll be with people but, will probably need a break from them for a bit. ;)

For the "newbies" here are some suggestions. These are not "rules" and you should feel free to disregard them. I'm offering them simply because Disboards chat can seem very intimidating (I'm still intimidated by it) and I hope these alleviate some "newbie" apprehension.

Use big font sizes. Colored fonts also help.

If you say something and it doesn't get acknowledged, please don't get put off. I can't tell you the number of times I've said something that wasn't acknowledged. It likely means the conversation is moving along quickly and your question didn't get noticed or, if it did, some of us got distracted before we could respond to it (chat moves very quickly and some of us have short attention spans). No one in chat means to ignore anyone (though there is an "ignore" feature we can push when someone tries to be annoying :)).

If you don't understand one of the many "inside" jokes, please ask. Some of us have actually met in the real world - imagine that - and we have known each other for some time. Even so, we were all newbies once (well, except for Kevin, who, by definition, can't be a "newbie") and want everyone to feel welcome.

Food will be discussed repeatedly. Photographic technology will likely be discussed. Tuba concertos are sometimes discussed. :rolleyes1 In other words, the discussions often have utterly nothing to do with Disney. If you have a specific question about Disney ask it. Someone will try to answer it but general questions about Disney ("how often do you go to WDW") usually receive only a few short replies.

Please don't ignore your significant other(s) during chat, especially as the midnight hour approaches (for those of us on EST). I speak from personal experience. :guilty: If you hear a heavy sigh from the person sitting behind you on the couch, just say, BRB (be right back).

I'm going to piggyback on Jack's post.....

Chartreuse font color might seem quirky and "fun"....but it's really hard to read.

Some of us are old and some of us have bad eyesight and some of us have both issues. Tiny little font is also hard to read. You will be given a pass if chatting from an iPad as there is no size option.

It's difficult to answer involved, technical questions in Chat. Chat moves at the speed of sound at times and keeping track can be hard.

Chat is not organized in any way. There can be six conversations going on at the same time. Some of us have chosen "unique" fonts for chat. They can make it easier to follow along.

Chat is pretty light hearted and silly most of the time. Jump in with both feet and let the current carry you along.

We often hear people say that they can't keep up with Chat. No one can. It would be like trying to keep track of all the conversations at a cocktail party.

As Jack has said.....if your question goes unanswered....ask again. People look away, answer phones, get snacks....you get the idea. It's truly not intentional rudeness.

I just re-read Jack's post and now mine and I'm not even sure I want to participate. ;) Please keep in mind that these helpful hints have come from years of doing this.

Please stop by and have a virtual cocktail or some virtual snacks.

And remember....Happy New Year.
