Tonguestickers invade America... 7/21 Planning is half the fun!

Marina - I LOVED reading your previous TRs! I have been scouring the DIS for ages to find more and then I came across this PTR!

The last TR I read was Grumpy's 60th Birthday - PLEASE PLEASE would you kindly send me the links to your other TRs after that one! (I seem to have only found PTRs!!!)

I would LOVE to read and catch up on them!

Thank you!
Julie xxx :yay:

Can't wait to read the TR when you get back!! I'm a local, so if you need any last-minute NYC help, PM me!!

I just may take you up on that ! Been a while since I've been to NYC and I'm rusty. Hey, is Jekyll & Hyde still crappy?

Hi Julie thanks for reading !!! I actually didn't do any other TRs after that one. It was when I started working and there was just no time. I may do a little recap' of our last July trip - Grumpy met Cinderella!

You have to do a recap now. You can't leave us hanging like that. We need to find out how it went when Grumpy met Cinderella.:rotfl:

Today's July 15th ! At this time last year, we were still asleep in our room at Coronado Springs. We were checking out that day, and heading to a Holiday Inn near IDrive. When Jessica and Alex were to meet us.
We were probably nervous - would it go well ? The last trip we took them on, it was SO bad I wrote this little report here : http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1872155

We hadn't had much time to stress over that in the past week though, Grumpy and I had been busy. We left Paris on July 8th and got to CSR late that day - DME took an unusual long time to get us there.
CSR was as lovely as we remembered it - I can't believe we wasted so much time before trying this resort. It's now our favorite!

We checked in, got the Cabanas (yeah,a new area to explore!) and found a really nice guy to help us take our luggage to our room. Unfortunately once we got there, the guy opened the door and said "You guys wanted a King bed??".
Err. No.

DSC00970.jpg

It happens to us quite often because Grumpy's name is Frédérique, which is fairly commun as Frederick for a GUY's name in the US but I've yet to meet any American female Frederique. And since we have the same last name, they sometimes mistake us for a couple. Our buddy advised us to wait until the next morning to switch rooms if we wanted to stay in the Cabanas, because a big convention was ending tonight and more rooms would be available tomorrow. That was a good idea and it wouldn't kill us to share a king bed for one night.
The new rooms at CSR are really nice and classy.

No park tonight. We were beat. I'd miss Fake Jovi :(
We took a walk around CSR which is so pretty at night !

DSC00975.jpg

Had dinner at Pepper Market, then turned in. We wanted to be up bright & early for Magic Kingdom the next day!

And up bright & early we were. For once we got to MK before opening.

DSC00983.jpg

We got to see the opening ceremony.Cute! When we got in the park, Grumpy said she wanted to ride Dumbo, so we were off to Fantasyland.
This time we didn't forget we needed a car each, and I got to take pics of Grumpy on the ride.

DSC00995.jpg

We had a ball. Too bad it doesn't last very long.

After Dumbo we did our old faves, PhilarMagic, Peter Pan and Haunted Mansion. There wasn't much of a line anywhere. Then we made our way to Crystal Palace for our date with Pooh, stopped to admire the beautiful gardens.

DSC01002.jpg

You know you're in Disney when Grumpy's hugging Eeyore.:thumbsup2

DSC01014.jpg

We had a great breakfast and loved seeing the characters again. When we were done, I suggested we go over to Hall of Presidents. It had just reopened and we knew Barack Obama was in it now. Here's something you may not know about Grumpy : she has a MAJOR crush on Barack Obama. In her house she has the Obama calendar, Obama magnets (that we got in a Texas airport,of all places), Obama photos, he's everywhere. I like the guy myself, but Grumpy is ObaNUTSma.

While waiting for the show, I heard a mom tell her daughter that Obama was "a socialist president like the French's". I wanted to tell her that there hasn't been a left-wing French President in over 15 years, but didn't want to cause a scene. Let her believe what she wants.:sad2:

The show was awesome !! I liked it before, and I like it even more now. We went to the Americana shop next and Grumpy was in heaven.

DSC01021.jpg

DSC01022.jpg

She wanted EVERYTHING. Unfortunately the frame wouldn't fit in our carry-on suitcases and wouldn't survive a trip back in checked luggage. We got ourselves a T-Shirt each, I think Grumpy got a magnet too. She was sad, she really wanted that frame.

We went over to Tomorrowland for a bit. I wanted to ride Stitch but there was a line and Grumpy didn't want to wait for "that stupid thing to burp on me". :confused3

I got in the shop though, and that was my little heaven.

DSC01025.jpg

DSC01027.jpg

DSC01028.jpg

WHAT IS THIS????????? Does Stitch have a girlfriend ? Is he cheating on me with THAT ??? I still haven't figured out the mystery of the pink Stitch.

We rode Buzz Lightyear where Grumpy got her lowest score EVER. Most people improve with time - Grumpy just keeps getting worse and worse. :rotfl:

DSC01031.jpg

Then I managed to lure her on to Stitch. Yay!!!

DSC01035.jpg

We decided then to go back to the resort and enjoy some sun & pool time before going to Epcot that night. On the way out of the park, we found Trisha!!!!!!!! We were so glad to see her again !

DSC01036.jpg

For those who don't know, Trisha is Grumpy's trash can. Thanks to Trisha, Grumpy can sit on the curb and enjoy seeing the parades upclose. We love Trisha and look forward to seeing her each trip.

... continued SOON :)

I'm here! I need to PM you to schedule a meet (ironicallly enough I will be in NYC on 7/24, LOL)

I'm here! I need to PM you to schedule a meet (ironicallly enough I will be in NYC on 7/24, LOL)

Are you following us ?? LOL
PM me your schedule, ours is simple : we get to CSR on the 7th, 8th we do MK, 9th we do nothing, and 10th is Epcot.

Ah, Cinderella's Royal Table. CRT. Disney's most beautiful ripoff. I'd hesitated going there on EVERY trip. This time we went, and we went all out.

We knew we were gonna be silly - might as well be ridiculous. For starters we wore our matching blue tiedye WDW shirts.

I think we went shopping that morning, anyhow we got to the Poly around 1pm for a lunch at Kona. Then we took the monorail over to MK. Our CRT ressie was at 9.30pm so we had plenty of time to play around before that!

First things first, I wanted to get my hair cut at the Harmony Barber Shop. There was only 1 guy in the shop so they were able to cut my hair right away. Of course I wanted sparklies too. The barber told me to forego the colored gel, because it was probably going to rain that day. So we just got the pixie dust. Yep Grumpy got pixiedusted too !!!

DSC01081.jpg

DSC01083.jpg

We only made it to Casey's when the skies opened, and it started raining cats, dogs, and ducks.

DSC01088.jpg

It wouldn't stop !!! We were under there for over an hour. A Moroccan lady was talking to us in French about all that was wrong with the US, and I really wanted to tell her off but I also didn't want to get soaked. As soon as the rain calmed down a bit, we were outta there.

On the way to get Splash Mountain FPs we met Cowboy Goofy, who seemed to like Grumpy's pixie dust.

DSC01093.jpg

Everyone was looking at us weird with that stuff on our heads. I bet they were wondering if a bag of confetti exploded on us. Doesn't matter, we liked it. We did our usual rides, a bit of shopping, Grumpy dragged me to HOP again, then I dragged her to Tomorrowland where she BEAT ME at Buzz Lightyear!!!!!!! :scared1:
WHAT is happening to this world ????

It started to get dark and people would tell us our hair was cute - guess it looks better in the dark. Come to think of it, I always look better in the dark. Wayyy dark. With a lot of fog.

Got Grumpy on the teacups !!!! I spinned like a lunatic again. Then we walked to the castle for our ADR but we were too early. I'd laughed so hard on the teacups I needed a bathroom, pronto. The lady minding the ropes at the castle told me to walk "straight that way".
"I'll try, but I just got off the teacups, so I can't promise anything for the walking straight part."

While waiting for our ADR time to come, Grumpy and I discussed princesses.

"She's the sleeping one right ?"
"Nah that's Snow White."
"No, there's a pink one that sleeps!"
"Cinderella isn't pink she's blue. Sleeping Beauty is the pink sleeping one."
"So what does this one do??"
"I dunno. She got mice."
"Mice ? What for ???"
"She's the one with the shoe."
"I don't think there's a Princess shoe saleswoman."
"NO, she loses her shoe!!"
"And the mice pick it up?!"
"Don't think so. Oh and she has stepdaughters too and they make her do all the housework."
"OOOOOOOH I get it, she's not the SLEEPING one, she's the SWEEPING one!!!"

The girl waved at me - it was time to go !!!!

Pretty castle entrance.

DSC01102.jpg

You enter the castle and Cinderella is there to take your pic. I didn't want to have my picture taken but Grumpy forced me! She has that pic somewhere. I look evil in it. We said good evening to Cinderella and thanked her for having us for supper. And then I couldn't resist.

"So anyway, Cinderella, do you still sweep ?"

Kudos to Cinderella, she was only surprised for a couple seconds - I saw the HUH? in her eyes - then she replied "Oh no, I have people to do that for me now."
Alriiiiiight Cindy! Good for you !!

We were told to leave the princess alone and go upstairs. I have to admit the dining room is beautiful, very fancy. We were sitting at a round table in the middlle of the room but didn't mind. Grumpy had her eye on a little girl's wand as soon as she got seated.

"I want one !! I want one!!!!"

She wouldn't stop, it was ridiculous. I tried to explain to her that they were for the children (to which she replied I AM A CHILD and it scared me, I don't need my mom going all Michael Jackson on me).

Then one of the waitresses approached the table and handed a wand to my 61 year old Grumpy.

"I saw you looking at them, I could tell you wanted one really bad!!"

:lmao:
I got one too !! Grumpy was in heaven. Here she is before/after (it's a video, click to see).

The show with the mice and fairy godmother was cute.
We saw Wishes from inside the castle and it was magical. All in all, silly tshirts and ridiculous hair and sweeping princess and everything, I don't regret going to CRT. I'm glad we got to experience it. It was, honestly, the highlight of our trip.

That's about it for our Disney trip. The rest was uneventful. Grumpy spent a lot of time at the Dig Site. I went to Hollywood Studios by myself one day to ride TOT a couple times and take pictures.

Grumpy & I came back another night for Fantasmic, another ride on TOT, and dinner at SciFi.

We spent a lot of time enjoying the grounds and pool at CSR.

Photo-147.jpg

Our last morning we had time to kill and went for brunch at Boma, then we stayed four hours at AKL watching the animals, looking at everything in their gift shop, and watching more animals. I could spend a day at AKL without a room and not get bored.

DSC01321.jpg

Then it was time to leave Disney and head over to the Holiday Inn on Kirkman Rd. We got there around 4. I had chosen flights with a long layover for Jessi & Alex, they were not supposed to get there until 8pm.

At 6, a knock on our hotel room door. I was in the bathtub enjoying a long soak with a Basin bath bomb so I told Grumpy to go open. And who was it ?? Jessi and Alex ! They'd managed to make the early flight, which meant actually going to the American Airlines desk and ask to wait standby. Wow. I was floored. Jessi told Alex that she wanted to do that so that I could see she was not stupid and helpless. Hey I never called her stupid and helpless. I call her plenty of things but not those two ! Hmpf.
Anyway they got there early and it was a nice surprise. We went to dinner that night and the next day the three of us, Jessi, Alex and I, decided to go to Wonderworks.

Here's the girls waiting at the trolley stop

DSC01337.jpg

WonderWorks !

DSC01348.jpg

Alex on the Bed of Nails - she said it was relaxing :rotfl:

DSC01352.jpg

Alex in the spacesuit !

DSC01355.jpg

We had a good time. Wonderworks isn't really my cuppa tea but it was fun and kept us busy for a few hours.
That night I booked a last-minute trip for Alex at the NASA and she loved it. We had gone to the Visitor's bureau which is right accross the street from our hotel and they'd told us we couldn't book a tour for the next day, it was too late. But I found GATOR TOURS online and they had no problem booking her. They can even pick you up from your hotel for an small fee.

Alex and I have one thing in commun, we are both insomniacs. But while Alex will slowly go down, I tend to crash hard.
We had planned on all going together at the Outlets while Alex was at NASA, but sometime in the early hours of the morning I crashed. My family knows better than to wake me up when that happens. They closed the door to the bedroom (we had a suite), put the do not disturb sign on the handle and went to Seaworld.

I wasn't even awake yet when they came back. Apparently Jessica insisted on doing Wild Artic, the simulator at the polar bear area of SW. She felt fine on the ride but when they got out, she was so lightheaded and sick she threw up and they had to leave. We finally figured out that's what got her so sick the year before after MGM : she can't do simulators anymore. The sudden moves makes her blood pressure go way high, and the visual effetcs trigger her migraines.

So they left. They did manage to see Believe and Horizons before that, so at least they didn't miss on everything, but she still didn't get to see the sea lions show.

The next day we left Orlando and flew to Ft Lauderdale. Jess started getting nasty at the baggage claim and I decided to take the bull by its horns right there - no way was I putting up with the kind of crap she pulled on the last trip. I, Grumpy AND Alex made it very clear to her that if she was going to act that way, we would leave her behind. She sulked, but that was the first AND LAST nasty episode of the vacation.

So, I'm confident that this month-long trip will be fine. We know to avoid certain things that make her sick. We know we can split and do different things if we get on each other's nerves. I think we'll be okay :)

And if we're not, at least I'll have another fun TR to write !!!!

/
Yep, still here, still talking to myself :)

Can't believe that in three days we'll be in the US (or flying over the US),and that in one week we'll be in Orlando !!! It's always hard for me to be excited just before the trip, but I can't wait to be there.

I'm trying not to overplan, well I tried, but had way too much time on my hands lately so I did make a schedule, which we will not HAVE to follow but it sure would be nice if we did :)

NEW YORK

July 24
Landing in JFK around 8.30pm. I think we'll be at our hotel by 10.30pm, then depending on whether we're tired or not we may go up the Empire State building. Our hotel is only a couple blocks from it.

July 25
Not planning anything for the morning as I do not know when we'll wake up. We may go to Chinatown or Central Park, or both. At night we are doing a 3-hour "City Lights" tour of the city. Lookin forward to that, I like NYC a lot better at night than in the daytime.

July 26
Going early to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. This will probably take up most of our day, but if we haven't done it yet, we'll go the Empire State that night.

July 27
We have booked an on-location tour of Sex and the City. Then at night we may do a sunset cruise if we can manage to find Pier 83!

July 28
We leave NY very early with an 8.50AM flight. Off to ORLANDO!!!

ORLANDO

July 28
We land in Orlando around noon. FL Tours is picking us up, we're doing a grocery stop to pick up drinks & snacks. Then we check into our hotel, Homewood Suites. We'll probably want to rest a bit. Then off to Universal to exchange our Viator vouchers and see if we can take a look at the Harry Potter area. If it's too busy we'll retreat to the Studios and try to do a few rides/shows that we can all do.

July 29
Universal in the morning. We do not have an itinerary for Universal yet because I frankly don't know what to expect! It will also depend on whether or not we managed to see HP the night before. Either way, we'll most likely leave by 2pm at the latest, then head to Seaworld around 5pm to see Believe, Shamu Rocks and Reflections.

July 30
Alex is going to the NASA. Jessi & I are going to Discovery Cove. I hope we'll be okay. I am SO self conscious about my weight but I swore to myself that I'd at least TRY to get over myself and enjoy a Florida summer. It's gonna be tough but having Jess with me will help.
Alex will come back later than us, so Jess & I may go to Seaworld after we're done with DC.

July 31
Seaworld in the morning, Horizons, Believe etc.. Alex wants to ride Manta. I wish I could, too, but just looking at the video online scares me! I wish I wasn't such a sissy :(
At night we may go back to Universal. Or maybe we'll go do miniature golf. I'm a bit worried about Universal on a Saturday night. It'd be a Studios night for sure!

August 1
That day we'll be taking a cab to go to MGM. Initially we were to do only MGM with the 3 of us, then do MK and EP later in the week with Grumpy. But Jess wanted to see AK again. So I tried to find a way to do that. I ended up booking a hotel around DTD for $40 on Hotwire, it doesn't look like much but it'll be fine for one night. We may even use it to take a break from MGM if it's very very hot that day. Anyway, at MGM I do have an itinerary, of course :)

Get there before park opening.
Go to TSM and ride. After the ride, get a FP. Then cross the park to go over to TOT and RnR (hopefully I will not chicken out on RnR this time). Then cross again to go see the 11.30 Indiana Jones show. Then Stars Tour. Then the 1.20 Lights,Motor,Action show. After that, we have a 2.45PM ADR at Sci-Fi we may go to. Or if we're too hot & sticky we'll go take a break at the hotel, and head back around 7pm for Fantasmic. I hope we won't go back so we'll have time for some of smaller attractions like Muppets, Backlot Tour and Great Movie Ride. Jess would probably enjoy the Magic of Disney Animation too.
Maybe we'll go over to DTD after Fantasmic, if it's not too late. Alex is dying for peanut butter ice cream at Ghirardelli's.
We're sleeping at the DTD area hotel that night.

August 2
Animal Kingdom ! Jess loved the Donald breakfast and it took me days to get an ADR there, and I'm not thrilled with the time so I keep on checking. I wanted something either before park opening, or an hour or so after (so we can do the safari very early). All I can get so far is 9.20 which isn't great. Jess wants to do the safari, Kali, the trails, Lion King and Tough to be a Bug. I'd love to be able to finally see Nemo this time. I think we may do Dinosaur, have to check the blood pressure warnings for that one.
It's evening EMH at AK that day and I'd love to stay until dark but I don't think we'll make it. AK is so hot & sticky in the summer, I don't think we'll last past 2pm. Then we'll head back to IDrive. I'm hoping we can catch a shuttle to the Premium Outlets and take the trolley to get back to our hotel. That'd save us a $40 cab ride.
If we are back around IDrive that night we'll probably head to Universal or Seaworld again to see the night shows.

August 3
Universal all day, with a mid-day break probably. Hit whatever rides we haven't been able to go on yet or redo some faves.

August 4
Seaworld all day with a mid-day break, unless we'd rather go back to Universal instead. My guess is that we'll go to Uni in the morning and to Seaworld in late afternoon but that's just a guess!

August 5
This is the day Grumpy arrives! Alex may go to the NASA again that day. If it's just Jess & I we'll most likely go to Seaworld or hit the Outlets if we haven't found time to do it already.
Then around 4 we'll take a bus to the airport and go pick Grumpy up. She'll probably be too tired to do anything that night, maybe dinner but I doubt it.

August 6
Universal so Grumpy can see Harry Potter. Then off to the Outlets, and possibly back to US that night. Grumpy will want to do Men In Black and the Simpsons again.

August 7
Another trip to the outlets, most likely. In the morning. Then off to Coronado Springs !!! I'm hoping to get there around 3pm, maybe a bit earlier but not too much because our rooms may not be ready and Grumpy won't have a park ticket for that day. We're having dinner at Cape May that night. Alex & I may go to Hollywood Studios for a bit before dinner to ride TOT and Stars Tour again (it closes at 7 and our ADR is at 8). After Cape May we'll probably go to Downtown Disney. We have to go to a park or to DTD to switch buses anyway.

August 8
Crystal Palace ADR at 8am. We will play in the park for a bit, leave around 1pm and rest at Coronado. Then we have a 5PM ADR at 'Ohana that we will NOT miss this time, and then we're heading back to MK for the parade, fireworks, and evening EMH.

August 9
Chill day at CSR. I booked Chef Mickey's at 11am, but I can't get a table for four. I booked two tables for two. Hopefully they can put us at one table. Grumpy & I have gone as a party of two several times and they always sat up at tables for four so I don't think this will be a problem. But I keep checking every day for a "real" party of four reservation.
Grumpy wants to spend the afternoon at the resort pool. I may do that. Jessi wants to rent a see raycer. I may do that. Or I may go to a park. Or we may go to DTD and go on Characters in Flight.
We have a 7.35PM ADR at Boma that night. Alex is already saying she wants to eat for two that night to make up for the time she was so sick she couldn't eat a thing.:rotfl:

August 10
Epcot day ! Jess wants to go on Test Track this time. We'll do pretty much like we plan to do at MK, go early, get on a few rides and get some FPs, go back to the resort for the afternoon and head back at dinner time. We have 5.30PM ADRs at Garden Grill. Then, Illuminations, and Epcot EMH! I'm thinking I will not take a resort break that day (unless it's very very hot) and stay to get us some FPs for later. Maybe Alex will stay with me. She's not into pools at all.

August 11
I booked Stitch at 7.30AM but doubt we'll make it. Then we are leaving Orlando at 1PM. I'm guessing FL Tours will pick us up around 10.30am.
:sad2:

-----

Not planning a thing for Ft Lauderdale. Jess found a catamaran thing we may do, and she wants to see an Imax movie at some museum. Grumpy will probably be at the beach 12 hours a day :) I tend to watch a LOT of TV in Lauderdale. Just recently got hooked on Jersey Shore (gotta love trash tv). So hooked, in fact, that I couldn't sleep yesterday because I kept thinking, "I gotta get up before the cameramen get here!!!". :rolleyes1

While in Miami we'll go to Key West. And that'll be about it.

It's crazy. We've never stayed that long but I feel like there's not enough time for anything. I would have happily added another week in Orlando.
Maybe next year :)

Hi Marina

Once again it looks like you've done a terrific job with the planning! Have a wonderful trip!! :goodvibes I'm looking forward to hearing all about it when you return home.

Nancy

So excited to see you making another trip - and better yet - a trip report! You get to Orlando on my birthday :cool1:. Have a great time!

It's getting closer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so glad to see that Jess is taking an active part in planning this time. Seems like she really wants to go. I hope this trip erases all bad memories from the last time. Have a great time and we will be waiting ti hear all about it.

So jealous of Euro vacations! Every day sounds wonderful!! I'm sure you'll have a fantastic trip!!

Marina -- Your itinerary looks like a blast to me! I can't wait to read your TR, I know it will be spectacular!

I just firmly decided I'm booking us into the WL for WDW marathon weekend. We normally stay at POR, but I've had to put up with so much from dh's relatives this summer, I decided I deserve a big treat! I can't wait to take the boat from WL to MK and CR, but first up we have a Uni trip at the end of August. I know your HP impressions will be invaluable!

Maria :upsidedow

Marina,

I love your trip reports and have learned alot and laughed even more. I look foward to this report and hope to hear about your time in NYC. I am planning a trip there and am looking for a place to stay. I will check out the Wolcott.

Another fan from your previous TRs checking in! By this time you should be at Ft Lauderdale... hope you are having a great time! See you soon!
