Two years ago tonight at 8:00pm I received a phone call that they had found a Pancreas, I was the first match! I had gotten listed with UNOS on Aug. 3, 2004 and 9 days later I was a match! DH and I where up most of the night, packing, phone calls, etc. We got the next call at 6:00am and was told to get on the road, we had a half hour to leave our house at this point, with a 3 1/2 hour car ride ahead of us! We where told that if we got there my 11:00am, they would take us up to the landing pad and we could watch my Organ being flown in!
Diabetes almost cost me my life. In 2002 224,000 people died from this disease. It has almost cost me all of my eyesight. Diabetes is the one of the number one cause's of blindness today!
Tonight is a very Emotional time in my life, as I remember my donor. I Thank God, my DH and my very kind DD. I also Thank all of you who have helped me along this difficult road.
I am going to stay true to myself and keep my promise. As most of you know I will hold a Rose Ceremony on Aug. 21st. at 11:00am. Cinderella's Castel at The Wishing Well. There I will Thank God, and honor my Donor. I had made that Wish in May of 2004 in front of That Beautiful Castle and said my Prayer's. I had also Promise that I would come back and give thanks.
I will ask God to continue to always allow me to stay true to myself and ask for his guidance and start down a new road in life. That is to educate people about Diabetes and to hopefully one day find a cure!
On my first Mother's Day after my Transplant my DD gave me a card and I have been wanting to share this with all of you for some time. I find tonight to be that time. It was a Disney Card and it read:
One thing is for sure, Mom... You're a tough act to follow! Happy MOther's Day! She then wrote this:
"What we need is more people who specialize in the impossible.: Theodore Roethke
"You've accomplished what many would consider impossible."
Trust me when I tell you as a Mother that brought tears to my eye's!
Tomorrow I will be packing and getting ready to head down to the World with my DD early Wednesday Morning. DH is staying home to take care of Jamie (beagle).
So DIS Family, let's party, we have a Birthday to Celebrate! I am now 2 years old!
I told DH tonight, I am now in my terrible two's, oh but I am potty trained!
Luv, kitty
