I thought I knew this... I was wrong.

I'm trying to determine what tolls I need to pay in Florida for an upcoming trip. We're driving I-95 from NJ, to Port Canaveral, then 528 from Port Canaveral to WDW, with a possible detour onto 417 is traffic is bad on the Orlando end of 528. And then there is the possibility of express lanes in the Jacksonville area. Cash is always king, but I would like to use my EZPass when ever I can.

Hopefully, as of September 1st, I can use my EZPass on most of 528 as per https://www.cfxway.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/E-ZPass-Florida-Travel-Information.pdf It also tells me that 528 is managed by both CFX and FTE/FDOT, where EZPass is not accepted. FTE/FDOT does not accept EZPass.

Some questions:
- Are there tolls between I-95 and Port Canaveral?
- Are there tolls between Port Canaveral and the section of 528 managed by CFX?
- Are there tolls between for the section of 528 between I-4 and the section of 528 managed by CFX?
- Are the express lanes running in / near Jacksonville and are there tolls? SunPass or toll by plate?
- What did I miss?

I guess I'm trying to determine where I need to have change for tolls, or maybe get s SunPass too.

We have 417 covered, should we divert from 528 to get to I-4. Several years ago we stopped to get donuts on the way into WDW. You know the place... Yum, bacon! We made use of 417 to get over to WDW.

A big thank you to those contributing to the recent SunPass thread here. It prompted me to take a look at the tolls again.

After seeing the toll road situation in Florida, I better not hear anyone, ever again, make fun of the toll roads here in New Jersey (:-)). I'm at Exit 3 btw.

Thanks for the help!

Hi! former exit 105 /Exit 7A! FL tolls are Crazy from a Jersey Girls view so be prepared.

Lots of questions - but see if this helps. I do my best to avoid the toll rolls but I do take 2 you are asking about. I can't tell you about Jacksonville - it's been a 2 years since I drove through but I don't remember any express lanes. There are no tolls on I-95 and no tolls on I-4 (yet - but the I-4 ultimate project when finished in 8 years will have a toll lane that is optional).

There are tolls on the 528 and 417 and they are manage by 2 different authorities - Sunpass and Epass. Sunpass is still a mess since June 2nd when they shut down their system for a 1 week long upgrade. It is over 2 months and people still haven't been charged for tolls. It took me until last week to be charged for a toll I used on July 10th on the 417 (CFX or epass toll).

Also the 528 is under construction near I-4 and they are adding what looks to be new tolls but I do not know when that will be open so that can change your calculations.

Last time I paid cash to the port I paid cash and it was about $10 round trip. 417 takes me closer to home for $3 more and saves 3-5 minutes so I save the money. There are cash lanes with change on 528 (right now) for the entire trip so you shouldn't have to worry about exact change.

Maybe these will help to:

OP, you may want to post this query on the Transportation Board. There are some folks there who are particularly knowledgeable about the intricacies of the FL toll road systems.

There are no tolls between I-95 and PC

I'd recommend this site to check your tolls around Orlando. https://www.cfxway.com/for-travelers/#
Plazas ON the 417 and 528 will take cash, E-PASS or SUNPASS
Beginning 1 Sept EZ-PASS is accepted at some BUT NOT ALL (for your purposes not 528 east of the airport as I understand it)

Applicable tolls (cash)

between airport and PC
528 Dallas Road $1.50
528 Beachline Mainline $1.00

IF you use I-4 to 528 (west of MCO_
Beachline West $2.50

IF you use 417 from John Young to 528
John Young $1.75
Boggy Creek $1.75

a couple of rolls of quarters will keep you away from the attended lanes. If there is a backup it is usually restricted to the attended lane.

(if you use an intermediate or other exit you may encounter additional tolls. plazas at exits typically are NOT manned but will accept transponders or exact change)

wrt to the SUNPASS billing issue. The backlog of toll charges is only for charges incurred during the {planned} outage. Tolls encountered today are being processed as expected. I used SUNPASS on 528 this week and my transactions posted "immediately" and correctly. The problem is ONLY with some transactions (millions) that happened during the downtime and even then mostly impacts HIGH VOLUME USERS .... If you did not travel in the area during the downtime you have NO ISSUES. I'd also mention that the State is holding the contractor responsible for all late fees and individual bank overdraft fees due to this booboo (according to multiple articles in Florida Today).
