I will be taking 417 from MCO to I-4 and have what will sound like an odd question / concern about the tolls.

- I know that the cash tolls are off to the side, but in NY when one drives through a cash lane with their EZ Pass in the car, the EZ Pass will usually still read, because all lanes are EZ Pass ready.
- Are the Florida tolls set up in a similar manner?

Who has experience with this in a National Rental Car?

Thanks!

Yes. If you drive through a toll booth in Florida with E-Pass or SunPass transponder, that transponder will be charged. EZ Pass and other systems from outside Florida will not work on Florida though. So unless you have SunPass or E-Pass, you will have to stop and pay cash at the booth.

Hertz uses a plate pass system in Florida. You can zip through the express toll lanes where they exist and it will record the license plate of the car, bill it back to Hertz, who in turn bill it back to you along with their "convenience" fee. You don't get a transponder, the system uses the license plate of the car to determine who to bill. I don't know if National or Alamo have a similar service though.

Suggest getting a receipt (whic means using the non-exact change cash lanes.

This wouod prevent problems if the electronic scanning system misfired and photographed your car anyway.
