We’re planning a trip for my 50th birthday and retirement from the Navy in 2026. I really want to go to Tokyo Disney (also to Japan for the first time) but I would also be happy to go to Disneyland Paris (but not my first time to France). I’m concerned that Space Mountain will be closed in Tokyo Disneyland and the new iteration is not expected to open until 2027. Which would you prefer for a first time (at the parks), Tokyo or Paris?

DL Paris is the most English friendly of the non-US parks. If you like thrill rides, their roller coasters are a bit more intense than the rides at Tokyo Disney.

Tokyo Disney has the best theming and overall quality but also takes more effort in terms of planning. I personally prefer Tokyo Disney overall.

Normally, I'd say that DL Paris is easier for first time visitors from the US but since you've already been to France before, I think you can try visiting Tokyo this time.

We are discussing the same topic for may of 2026. Leaning more on Tokyo as we want to stop at Aulani for a few days on the way to Japan. Trying to find out what hotel is best to stay at in Tokyo.
