Tokina AT-X pro f/2.8 80-200mm lens

I found it as part of a large package deal on ebay, the seller stated that he would be willing to split the package, I asked how much for this lens, he said 400, I offered 300 he said 350 was the bottom price so I took it....

my research showed that the 80-200 atx-pro sold new for around 800


tokina has another 80-200 that has a red ring rather than gold, from what I read the pro lens is definitely made better...

No seriously the lens has not even been delivered yet. Auction ended SAT the 23rd, it is the same auction you had sent a PM about(I had already bid). Seller did not ship till Tuesday and today is FRIDAY.


Sorry if I made it seem like I already had the lens in my hands.

I feel I got a decent deal, @$300. Since then I have seen the same lens end at $140 more(if you count shipping from asia).

I'm pretty sure you got a good deal...

Well it seemed too good to be true and guess what, IT WAS.

Lens will not focus.
In AF you just hear the AF motor stutter a bit but focus does not change.
In MF you can turn the ring(feels smooth almost moves too freely), and focus does not change.

I am contacting seller now.

I have a feeling he knew it was not working, seems like the lens took a decent shot on the lens cap end(which he did not show pictures of in the auction). The filter ring is not a true circle(lens cap will not stay on), it has an indentation and scuff marks(which could not have happened inside padded bag it was shipped in) as if it got hit or dropped hard against a hard surface.

Ok after further review, I was able to get it into MF turning all the way to one side and pulling back. but it moves really roughly and tight.

Still no AF, just little stutters.

Ok from what I can tell this is being caused by the lens element sticking as it moves forward(for shortest distances focusing) towards the filter ring which is not perfectly circular.

I will post photos later when I calm down.

that bites...

maybe you can get that fixed at a decent price and still have a good deal on the lens..like I said earlier I think they sold originally for over 800


if you keep it, I highly recommend the lens cradle for carrying it..

newman, sorry about the lens, that stinks. i got a bad buy off ebay one time by a seller who claimed he didn't see the inch big NIKON plastered all over the box of the lens he said was Canon. glad you are at least getting your money refunded
