We are in the process of planning a "graduation" ceremony for our 5th grade class as they move to middle school. At the ceremony cut flowers, a plant or a small gift is given to the teachers after they present the kids with their certificates. Three of the four teachers are male and three teachers have elementary school aged children (one has a baby). Any suggestion in lieu of flowers? The classroom moms usually collect money for a group gift from each class so this gift is really more of a token gift at the ceremony. One idea we had were electric pencil sharpeners (wrapped pretty). Not very creative...last years class gave them flowers AND $50 gift certificates to a local restaurant that one of the committee members owned (no longer involved). We are on a tight budget but would still like something nice.

TIA

what about getting them a nice engraved pen set?

How about famous oil paintings ?

Do you know their hobbies or interests? If they like to golf, a box of golf balls are always welcome, for example. How much do you want to spend? I would skip the flowers and just put the money into the 'gift'.

Either a gift card or one time I found a nice car washing kit complete in a decorative tin. It held wash, wax and shammies. DSD said he loved it because everyone else got him teacher stuff from the Hallmark store. Unless you live in a city, I would imagine that everyone has a car.

Bookstore gift card....even a $10.00 one would be great!:thumbsup2 (Much better than $10.00 worth of something that won't even get used). Each male teacher will greatly appreciate it & it will definitely get used.

Purchase a book to go in the school library in their honor or just give them the book. All of the students can sign the boook.

Ask them which unit of study that they enjoy teaching most during the year. Also ask them if there is a specific book that they would like to have to go along with their unit of study.

GIft cards.

Bookstore, Staples, Babies R Us (for the guy with the baby), WalMart, Home Depot, Lowes.

If you know of a place that they REALLY like to go ro shop, then get it there.

My neighbor is a teacher and she really appreciates gift cards to stores where she can get stuff she needs for her classrom that is not supplied by the school.

Gift Cards. I love when my students give me Panera, Dunkin's, Wegman's, etc. gift cards. It's nice to treat myself, which I never am able to do because we are on such a tight budget at home.

A male teacher may appreciate the places I listed above, or maybe a bookstore (Barnes and Noble, etc.) or a local teacher supply store. I know that teachers spend a tremendous amount of their own money on supplies...if you get them a gift card, they can purchase items that they truly need. :thumbsup2

I think a gift card is the way to go.

I would suggest American Express then he can use it wherever he would like.

Itunes, Starbucks, Amazon or a bookstore I think are also good choices.
