Toetoe, we're not in Anaheim anymore! A fully completed TR - links on pg.1

Great TR cyn. That was very fast. Wow I know of one person from our board who has taken forever to post her TR. Hey PD do you know of anyone?

Next morning, we woke up about 6:30 so we could be at Magic Kingdom by 9:00. This didn’t actually happen, but close enough. Part of the problem was that our butts were dragging from jetlag and the previous exhausting day. The other part was our enormous balcony. It was wonderful…we could have played basketball out there, for heavens’ sake. Why, yes, I DO have a picture of that:

balcony.jpg

I made a pot of coffee and went out there with my cup to just soak up the quiet of a Wednesday morning in WDW and . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . RRRrrrrrroooowwwwwww. Rnnn! Rnnn! squeeeeak...qshhhh! (Ok, so I’m really bad at imitating the sound of a bus approaching, turning around, and stopping – I bet my DH could do a good job of it, though!) Anyway! Our villa, being on the street side (as you can kind of see there in the pic), was pretty exposed to the traffic already, but we were right next to the South Point bus stop as well. On that first night as I listened to busses come through until about 1:00 a.m., I thought “Oh, man. We’re going to hate having to listen to those busses all day every day.” And here, as I was trying to enjoy my morning coffee in peace, the first bus of the day roared through at about 6:30 a.m. I thought about being annoyed but I just couldn’t do it. All I could think was, “That bus is going somewhere fun and I could be on it.” I watched the next one come by, and the marquee read “Epcot.” I could be going there, right now! A few minutes later the Magic Kingdom bus came by and I hopped up to finish getting ready and tell my son to time the next two busses for MK that came by. This was the beginning of a daily ritual that week in which the first person ready to go to the parks would be stationed by the window, warning when the desired bus came by that either we had to go out the door now, or wait 15 or 20 minutes for the next one.

Yes, we missed the first couple of busses we wanted to be on, but eventually made it to MK by 9:40 (hey, it still has a nine in it) and the crowds were still very light. Now, a word about Disney transportation: WONDERFUL. If DH hadn’t wanted the car for trips to the store and other resorts, I’d never have considered renting one anyway. But this morning, we took the bus to Magic Kingdom and it was like DH was a different person altogether. There was no stressing out about being lost, no worries, no unhappiness. The drive was scenic and relaxing – WDW is a very beautiful place with all those forests and all that green. We rode the bus in a good mood and it dropped us off right at the front gate so we didn’t have to trek through the entire enormous parking lot. We were happy when we arrived and stayed that way despite the muggy heat. We noted the differences between WDW Main Street and DLR Main Street. Naturally, WDW’s is bigger and more spacious, but DLR’s seems to have more little nooks where you might find little surprises, perhaps more quaint. Here’s a picture that says a lot about how well The Talk from the night before sunk in. DH is in the red shirt (Hurry! The castle is on fire!!), DS in the yellow shirt, me lagging behind, taking the picture, and DD (not in view) already clinging to my leg (“I’m sweaty”).

It was interesting to note the differences and similarities between DL and MK. First, the reason we headed straight for Mickey’s Philharmagic was because Disneyland doesn’t have it (and there was no wait!). We loved it, especially DH who has never been to any of the 3D shows at DLR!!! DD, though, freaks out about the 3D shows after having seen ITTBAB on a trip to DCA last Feb. She hated it and was scared, so when we did HISTA at DL, she fretted and fussed and kept taking off her glasses and shrinking into the seat. Well, when she saw the glasses for Philharmagic, she started hyperventilating immediately. All the reassurances in the world were not going to be enough to convince her that bad things weren’t going to jump out at her. So, I actually missed a lot of the show looking at her and telling her to "stop that". Heh. She agreed afterward that it wasn’t scary and we went on happily with our day (but she didn’t choose to see it again, either).

We went into Tinkerbell’s Treasures shop to listen to Tink flying (and tingle-ingle-ing) around the shop, then got in line for Peter Pan’s flight (5 min. wait!), PPF was the same or very similar to the one at Disneyland (it’s been awhile since I’ve been on the one at DL, so I give that as a general impression), but Tom Sawyer’s Island was much better than the one at DL! DD loves TSI at Disneyland, so she was really excited about the one at WDW. We milled around there for awhile so she could climb stairs, shoot rifles, explore caves – longer than the rest of us wanted and not as long as she would have liked – and then went over to Splash Mountain. The look on my DD’s face in this picture is exactly the same look she had before every new ride. I’m not sure what that was all about. She’d already been on ToT at DCA and EE the night before, and she’d been on Splash Mt. at DL, too. This can clearly be attributed to her basic drama queen nature.

splash_mt_fear.jpg

After we got off Splash Mt., we were hungry, so went over to Columbia Harbor House for lunch. The food was pretty good…read some positive recommendations about it here on the DISboards, and for a counter service place, it was satisfying and served the purpose. We wandered around a few other areas (looked at Tomorrowland, but didn't ride anything) and about 12:15, we decided it was getting hot and we should be heading back to OKW for a swim. On the way out, we stopped to check out Cinderellabration. DD loved it – it was very elegant. Here’s a picture of us watching it. Note me checking my watch: “C’mon, let’s keep to the schedule!”

checking_the_time.jpg

Back down Main Street and out the exit, we waited for our lovely air-conditioned bus NOT driven by my darling husband. The one thing I never read about on the DISboards was the ducks at the MK bus stop. They are not at all shy and really don’t mind leaving bodily wastes among friends. However, they were cute. Though there are plenty of ducks in strategic places around DLR, you don’t really see anything like flocks of ducks at the bus stop, but never having had to take a bus anywhere in DLR or Anaheim, how the heck would I know!? Let’s just say I have seen ducks at DLR, but not that many all at once, and leave it at that. Ducks:

ducks_at_busstop.jpg

Back at the resort, DS, DD, and I went for a swim in the quiet pool near our building (DH took a nap). It was very picturesque and not crowded at all.

quietpool.jpg

We came back, showered, and I got ready to make a run to the grocery store with DH while the kids watched TV for a bit. Have I mentioned how much I hate it when DH drives in a new locale? Ok, well, this incredibly stressful trip we took to Publix reaffirmed my devotion to Disney transportation. No doubt, the grocery shopping had to be done, but the entire time we were gone, I kept wishing someone else – ANYONE else – had been driving. More freaking out about being lost when, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, how lost could we possibly be on Disney property?? There is a sign, as big as our house, that says “Walt Disney World, Thataway” How do people from other cultures come here and manage without going mental? Aarrgghh! We did make it back eventually, though, with the necessary provisions and having actual groceries in our kitchen calmed us down a lot. It’s nice to feel you can reach for something when you need it. We unloaded the stuff quickly and ran out to catch the bus to Epcot. Oh, was I ever glad to be back on the bus again!!

We only spent a couple of hours at Epcot, but while there we got to ride Spaceship Earth, which we all loved, and Mission Space, which was so fun! DS and I did the orange side, DH (who gets a bit motion sick) and DD (who’s a big chicken) did the green side. I relinquished the camera to DH and this is what we got:

blurry.jpg

Yeah. You should see the videos! :rotfl: Then we had dinner in Mexico, complete with margarita. Instead of watching the Illuminations fireworks show (which we never DID see!!), we decided to ride Test Track. Great decision: the wait for Test Track before the fireworks show had been 50 minutes. When we got there at 8:50, it was a 10-minute wait and we were among the last group to be allowed to ride. It was really fast and really fun! Once we came out, though, everyone else was leaving in a mass exodus from the fireworks show and we had to shuffle out like the cattle we were. We didn’t have to wait long for the bus back to OKW, though, and we met a nice family who sat in the back with us. Their little 3 year old kept telling me he loved me (so cute) and the mom loved DD and talked about her upcoming birthday all the way home. Once we did get back to the villa, the kids were put to bed, we took another bath, DH watched the rest of the movie I had already seen the night before, I set the alarm for 5:45 a.m. and we hit the sack.

Next up: DD’s Disney Birthday

We woke up super early on Tuesday, 8/1 (2:30 a.m. for me and DH, 3:15 for the kids) and got out the door by 4:00. We made it to LAX by 5:15, which was 2 hours before our flight, but DH had to drop off the car with his friend, so he didn’t get back to the airport until about 6:00 a.m. That done, we went through TSA security and waited for our flight. While we waited, we had some Starbucks coffee and a few danishes, DD7 played with some little girl for awhile, and then it was time to board the plane.

WHAT? TRAITOR!! Pixie...please fill her in... :confused3

Other than that....Fabolous report thus far! :cheer2: i feel like i should update my own..what's this? three chapters in two days? i'm lazy! you're making me look bad!

by the way..i think Disney does something to the film there...because none of my pictures had lime green hair either. THE NERVE!

I know what you mean about the time difference. I left my watch on CA time, so every time I was tempted to say to my kids, "Get out of bed, you lazy lumpkins!" I would remember that it was only 3 a.m. in the "real world."

About those flashing beeper thingies... they have a pretty good range. We were at the Concourse at The Contemporary waiting to be seated, and I thought I'd lost my camera... I HAD to go down to the car to see if I'd left it in there even though they were supposed to call us any minute. But, this was my camera! So we went down the elevator and we were waiting for the valet to bring the car back and the vibrator thingies started shaking and blinking! I was really surprised it worked from so far! Oh and yes.. the camera was in the car... whew!
So next time you can look around a bit of where ever you happen to be.. you don't have to stay 'right there' like I'd thought.
I figured I had SOME space, so should at least have gotten up to see the pool etc, but we were just TOOOO pooped. I could see the pool out the window at Boma and it was gorgeous. Never saw much more than that...gotta put that on the "To Do" list for next time! (ah ha...a spoiler!)

WOOOOoonderful TP so far... BUT

I was pretty confused looking at this pic of your DS & DS & DD at the bus stop. I was wondering what in this Lime Green world were those 2 people in the backround wearing on their heads?? Some weird wig? Saving some endangered bird species by carrying bird nests on their heads?? I couldn't figure it out... I was sitting a bit away from the screen (it's a decent sized 20" LCD)... and that's what it looked like to me. Unitl I got closer and saw the truth!..
But for a minute there... I was like :confused3

Donalds Cousins...You are suppose to give them your leftover popcorn. This may be a 'Eastern USA' thing! Not a day goes by and I have to stop & let all the ducks cross the road.
