Hello, We will be bringing our 18 month old in Jan. We are bringing a stroller but I am worried how she'll do in the lines. She is runner and doesn't love to be held. We have a front facing carrier that she doesn't mind, but she'll be to big for in Jan. I'm looking to get a back carrier for her but I don't think we'll use it too much outside this trip so I don't to spend upwards of $150+ like the top rated ones. Does any one have any good experience with some lower priced options? Thanks!

Have you thought about a toddler leash? Just me, but I wouldn't want to carry a toddler around on my back in the parks all day. It is enough just to carry myself around!

Agree. We took our son at 18 months, but he isn’t a runner. If he was, I would have looked into a leash. 30 lbs is way too much to have on my back for any appreciable amount of time, plus then you have the hassle of getting the kid off and on when you board/disembark from rides.

Just a tip - don’t get in any long lines. The longest line we did was 15 minutes. No ride is worth a squirmy, impatient, melt-downy toddler, IMO. Strategic use of Fastpass got us on everything we wanted with minimal wait time.

That's a good idea! I was thinking it would only be in line for rides, but that might be a good option so she can walk on her own. Thanks!

I completely agree! That's one of the reasons we're going in late January, hopefully the crowd will be lower. I can't imagine being in line with her for anything more than 15 minutes and we've come to terms that there's things we'll miss since we'll be going at a slower pace. Thanks for tips!

I'll be there in January too! I took DD at 18 months and I brought a stroller, a backpack leash and this toddler carrier:

I tried wearing her on my back with our Ergo before we left and she didn't like being so constrained. The carrier that I linked doesn't press against them, so they just feel like they are sitting on your hip but you aren't straining your arms by holding them. I was very glad that I brought it, she was a little overwhelmed and clingy, so I used the carrier more than anything. She had a blast and I'm sure your will too!

This is great info! Thank you. I just bought that hip carrier and I'm looking at backpack leashes. Did you end up using the backpack leash?

I used the carrier the most, followed by the stroller for navigating parks and naptime. Make sure to wear that carrier high enough, or it will bruise your hip. We did use the backpack leash for an entire afternoon around Epcot WS and it came in handy in the airport. We put toys, stickers, snacks, distractions etc... in the backpack part, so we'd open it up while waiting in lines. All kids are different, so it might be worth getting one in case you have a runner! DD kind of clung to my side, which is out of character for her. I think ours was around $10 and we used it a ton at the zoo and other places too.

Awesome! I think we'll do the same. I saw a cute Minnie Mouse one on Amazon. She is a runner but she may be clingy in with all the people and stimulation so I like having the options. Thanks again for the feedback! Any other tips for Disney with an 18mo is more than welcome! :)

I'm stalking this thread, as I'll be taking a 20 month old in May. My challenge is she's GINORMOUS (last I checked 25-26 lbs and almost 32 inches, and that was 2 months ago). I'm hoping she'll be content in her stroller...

At 18 months, my son was 30 lbs and 33.25 inches. Now at 2, he’s gained an additional pound and 1.25 inches (31 lbs, 34.5 inches). I’m just shy of 5’3 and 112 lbs...it’s very hard for me to carry him, even in a carrier (and it’s not much easier for my 5’5, 140 lb husband). He likes his stroller though, so we are fortunate. That’s why I mentioned that if he were a runner, we would have gotten a leash. A carrier just doesn’t work for us. It’s too difficult physically.

It's one of the pricey ones, but I carried my 22-month-old all around the parks for 8 days while pregnant in a Lillebaby. After 20 ish pounds, I find Ergo's to be uncomfortable in a back carry for a long period of time. This last trip I spent several evenings with my almost 3-year-old on my back (Lillebaby) and my 8-month-old on the front (ergo). They are both used to being worn, though. I've been able to find my carriers at popup consignment sales or buy-sell-trade groups. Lillebaby frequently runs sales. There are buy sell trade groups around for carriers if you don't mind used that would let you get a pricier one for cheap. Or you can see if there is a babywearing group in your area. Many times they have lending libraries and will "rent" out (usually for just a deposit) carriers for you to try.

To save some money, you could also try FB marketplace for a preowned toddler Tula or Lillebaby... I also have a Stokke that I use for my now 19 month old and I like it better than my less structured ones for comfort.
