Todays SW ding Louisville to Tampa would it be worth it?

I have been watching airfare for our trip Sept. 30 - Oct. 8 forever and have not been able to get anything under $200.00. Todays ding from Louisville to Tampa would be $126.00 per person. We were planning on going to Daytona the first day of our trip so now we could just go to the beach in Tampa, do you think that we would regret having to drive back to Tampa for our flight home? I am afraid if I book it that a good price for a flight to and from MCO will come out.

They are having a huge sale right now... check your dates on their regular website. HTH :)

Edit to add... I just checked your dates and if you can leave on the 29th you can get a $59 flight out of KY... the flight back is not so cheap. It would be $185 total R/T from the 29th to the 8th. I don't know if that helps you at all.

It really depends on what day and time your flight home is. The traffic can be pretty bad in both Tampa and Orlando. I would avoid 'slim' travel times if possible.

A suggestion - try pricing multi ticket - fly into Tampa and out of Orlando. I am doing (well the opposite) this on my upcoming trip. Thrifty car rental and all. It was the same price.

try booking out of Indy. The Ding for today is $90 RT into Orlando.

I would like to be able to fly out of Indy but I actually live in Campbellsville which is and hour and a half drive to Louisville and then to have to drive probably another hour to indy would be too much.

I bought SW Louisville to Orlando yesterday at $135.40 round trip. $59 each way plus tax. :Pinkbounc

I noticed this yesterday, I'm so mad cause I booked w/Delta over a month ago. Oh Well- Congrats on the good deal!

We booked Delta at over $200 r/t just the other day. Ugh!!

On what dates were you able to get the discount? I haven't been able to get it for ANY dates I plug in.

The really cheap SW fare is only good thru the end of Sept....some of us are still waiting patiently for Nov fares (well maybe NOT so patiently)...we live in Louisville but I would fly out of Indy or Nasville in a heartbeat if I could get fares around $100/pp/rt... besides SW flight times from Louisville to MCO really stink....all are mid day (so you lose most of the day at Disney, but you still can't go to work or school because of the mid day flights....) Delta has MUCH better times, but the fares are outrageous.

I would suggest to the OP that you go ahead and book Tampa, then if a cheaper fare comes out on SW you can always cancel the old and apply the funds to the MCO fare...assuming DING's have the same cancellation policy as regular SW fares.

that is farther than me....I'm in E'town ;)

Have you checked Nashville? sometimes it's cheaper....

Well I went ahead and booked it tonight I really did not want to pass up the $126.00 pp. I had almost talked by husband into leaving a day early out of Nashville for $39.00 and then fly back to Louisville for 99.00 but then we would have the expense of a hotel for an extra night and a extra day for a rental car and since we were planning on driving to Daytona on our first day anyway and now we will just be closer to the beach and not have a drive (which will be a lot easier on my 4 year old). Last year we paid 140.00 pp and I thought that was a good price but $126 is an even better price since i thought that I was going to have to pay $216. So if SW has something better from Lville to MCO will I be able to switch without paying a penalty?

Yep....SW is great about that....if the fare drops you can cancel without penalty and rebook at the cheaper rate. You MAY be able to get the difference refunded to your CC but at the very least you will get the difference in ticketless travel funds that you can use for up to a year. I REALLY doubt that you will see the fare go under $126 from Louisville (although I would be 1 happy camper if it did!!)

The drive from Tampa isn't bad anyways....jsut allow a couple of extra hours and then you won't feel rushed.

Louisville to Orlando for $53!
- Fare is valid for travel August 22 through October 28, 2005 only

I just had this DING! fare pop up!!! :cool1:

Well you might know that the Ding for today is for $53 from Lville/MCO, so now that I have already purchased tickets can I just change my return flight and fly out of MCO now instead of Tampa. I think that I would like to keep my flight from Lville to Tampa since we are going to the beach.

I just saw the DING too....you can just cancel your return leg and have the funds applied to your account then rebook the return leg on the DING....if you need help you can always call SW customer service and they will talk you through it....they are very nice.

well, now I'm on the horns of a dilemna....the SDF-TPA Ding fare this afternoon is about $130 more than my IND fare....but, I won't have to pay to park at SDF, which saves us some money...I'm estimating that it will end up being about $50 more. I have no experience with flying in/out of IND or TPA. The drive from KY to Indy is very straightforward, not concerned about that at all. I have some reservations about the Tampa airport....I see that the National desk is "off terminal" at TPA, is that a hassle for a family of 5? I'm also reading about the traffic on I-4...not sure if I'm up for that.

ugh. :confused3

We flew from Indy to Tampa a couple years ago. There's a shuttle to take you to the car rental area and it was no problem at all. Also, the drive from Tampa to Orlando was fine. It was about 90 minutes. We would do it again if the price was right.

Wow! I had no idea there were so many DISers from KY!! We booked the $56/RT on Vacation Express that popped up on Wednesday. Got 6 tickets for $336 -- that's less than the two tickets on SWA DH and I had planned for October!!

Anybody flown Transmeridian from SDF into Sanford?
