For all the Le Cellier Poutine fans out there...

The today show is showing a cooking segment on Poutine right now! hmmmm, looks good!

BLECH!

Sorry...I've had Poutine, and it is nasty. The blue cheese does me in.

They sell it at Whistler, BC when I've been up skiing. In the incarnations I have seen, there is little "cooking" involved. It's french fries with gravy and blue cheese wherever I've seen it made. I looked it up on Wikipedia, and that's what they say, too (well, they say "cheese curds" so slightly different). Why is this on a cooking segment...and who would bother to order it at Le Cellier.:confused3

Here in Western NY and whenever we have had it in Eastern Canada (Montreal and Toronto) it has always been cheese curd. Blue cheese would do me in too. :)

Is it true Le Celler doesn't serve proper poutine (there were reports that they serve fries with gravy - no cheese curds).

Poutine shouldn't have blue cheese in it...cheese curds is what should be in there along with gravy and fries.

I wasn't aware Le Cellier served poutine...in fact I'm pretty sure it wasn't on the menu I just looked at online.

WHAT?! Blue cheese!!!! YEEECH!!!!

Okay, let me just set the record straight. I am from Quebec, born and raised ( where Poutine was invented ). Whoever is putting Blue Cheese on a poutine is crazy.

Not that many would consider a poutine appetizing ( though, I love it ), but the official poutine is fries, CHEESE CURDS ( unripened Cheddar ) and gravy. Anything else is just "getting fancy" ...

That being said, I never knew Le Cellier actually had a poutine... Even if they make it gross...

I was thinking that I had NEVER recalled seeing that on the menu in the last 5 years. I like cheese curds so I would have had to try it just because.

If you look at the "sides" section of the menu, it's there. I had no idea either. I might actually try it in March.

Poutine is one of those things that you just have to try once.... Sure it sounds gross but damn it is good.

I had a co-worker who was transfered up here from Texas. I took him for some good poutine and one bite he was hooked. He often jokes that if he ever moves back to Texas he will open a poutine stand and offer everyone free samples. He insists it is just like crack the first sample is free then everyone will be comming back for more.

Althought the record has been set straight I would like to reinforce that poutine is fresh cut fries, brown gravy, and cheese curd. Althought many establisments have expanded on the theme by putting pasta sauce, chillie, bacon, the orginal and the best is just simple curds and gravy.

Le Cellier does have poutine however when I asked our server if it was the same as "back home" I was advised that it was not the best he has had.

Poutine, even the poutine they sell at Burger King in Windsor, is some kind of wonderful! I wish American's could adopt this delicious treat, I know whenever I make it to Canada, I splurge on the stuff a couple of times!!!:goodvibes

What kind of gravy is typically used?? Everything I'm reading online about authentic poutine says you usually chicken or turkey gravy, but every recipe I find online calls for Beef gravy! :confused3

Poutine should only ever be served with mozzarella/white cheese curds and dark gravy imo. Anything else is a poutine poser:lmao:. The Costco up here in canuckie land serves outstanding poutine:lovestruc. Quebec is the home of poutine they have mastered it perfectly!:thumbsup2

I saw that on the Today show and thought "HOLY CATS, that is a friggin' heart attack in a bowl!!!"

I'll pass.

Being a Canadian native, poutine is usually beef gravy with white cheese curds, looks gross but is soooo good

Blue cheese? BLAH!
I LOVE poutine but yes, not the most figure friendly meal, however neither is a double bacon cheese burger. Which they sell plenty of at WDW.

That is soooo not how we make Poutine here!
It is made with mozzarella
cheese curds and a light gravey..usually a beef or muchroom gravy. Similar to what you would have on roast beef..etc...

And we also like to dip our fries in Mayonaise..its sooo good!!!!

I was just at Le Cellier in Dec 09 and we indeed had poutine. It did not have bleu cheese on it. It was some sort of cheese curd.

It was delicious!

:thumbsup2 Amen!

Sometimes restaurants choose to "elevate" perfect street food to new heights rather than leave them as they were created.!

Nothing better than roaming the lake side with a container of freshly made poutine! Gosh I love cheddar cheese curds!
