I dont know if any detroit area or michigan DIS'ers know but 15 years ago on August 16,1987 Northwest Flight 255 crashed just after take off at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. 156 people were killed and the only sole survivor was a 4 year old girl. My dad's cousin lost a good friend on the flight and a neighbor who lived two houses from us- her daughter(who used to babysit us) and son-in-law lost a couple that were friends of theirs and the couples young children.

I remember that the little girl survived because of the way her mother was holding her.

She was sitting on her mother's lap, and the mom bent over her to completely surround the child. :(

So sad.

I remember that crash. I always wondered if I would have been as smart as that wonderful mother, if I had been in the same situation. She saved her daughter's life. The father did the same thing with their son but the son didn't survive :(

This was a terrible crash :(

Jersey Janice,
I missed seeing the plane crash by about a half-hour- My Mom,myself and my brother were coming home from my cousin's
1st birthday party( She is 16 today:sunny: ) and were on I-94 coming home. I'm more scared now of a plane crash because My DH and I live about less than 5 miles away from the airport.
