Sorry, folks. Tried to pack 8 hours worth of work into 3 hours . . .

Anyway, here is today's history post:

On December 12, 1870, Joseph H. Rainey of South Carolina took his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, becoming the first black congressman.

On December 12, 1917, Father Edward Flanagan founded Boys Town outside Omaha, Neb.

On December 12, 1985, an Arrow Air charter crashed after takeoff from Gander, Newfoundland, killing 248 American soldiers and eight crew members.

On December 12, 2000, a divided U.S. Supreme Court halted the presidential recount in Florida, effectively making Republican George W. Bush the winner.

An interesting note about that Arrow Air crash: DH (then boyfriend) and I took an Arrow Air charter to Paris for a week just 6 months prior to that fatal crash   . I think they went out of business shortly after the Newfoundland accident . . .

Very interesting, Deb. I was getting worried, thought we might miss our history lesson today :)

Thanks, Deb.....:D
