Today’s walkers

This is what I am did. I just reduce my dates walking during during Thanksgiving time and will do that again during Xmas and new yearstime. What sucks is walking through your use year. I am dec use year and I had to call up to modify dates when I am straddling two use years. You cannot do it online.
I don't understand how you can cross use year. After you walk by, do you then bank them? Would you please explain it? Thank you.

Edit: I have a Dec use year also, and would really like to know how to do that.

Since you are walking 11 months in advance, you are way ahead of the banking window.

For example, if I had wanted to start a walk for Dec 2022 before now, it would be using my 2021 UY points which don’t need to be banked until July 31st of this year.

Once you pass Dec 1st, you would start using 2022 points, To continue the walk with those 2021 points, you would then need to bank them into the 2022 UY and then as you continue, the system will now pick them up.

Thank you Sandi. So how do you "cross the date line"?

You have to call MS to extend it. They are the only ones that can make one reservation that crosses the UY.

I don’t do ever do it because I have RIV points in both my Aug and Dec UY. That way, when I want the studio, I will walk it using Aug UY points. Next year, we are doing a 2 bedroom so I was able to get it today and will only need to walk it forward about 3 days.

Thank you. Will I need to call several days to clear all the days in Nov?

It all depends on how many nights you are booking as that determines how often you have move it.

For example, I am only walking 3 nights…it means I have to change every two days. If I was crossing my UY, I’d have to call a few times at least.

However, if someone is booking more nights..like 5 or 7…then it probably be done in one call only.

It never occurred to me to walk but I noticed yesterday people were doing it for early December BLT Standard View 1-bedroom when I was checking availability. Luckily, I was able to grab what I wanted this am at exactly 8 am, but clearly I won the lottery because just after I booked, my first day 12/3 was gone. Phew!

I did the same thing for my RIV SV 2 bedroom yesterday. I noticed it was going quick so I grabbed it since I knew I would not be able to tomorrow which is my real 11 month day.

I am also booking a back up SV studio and didn’t get it…so hoping to follow behind the walkers for my actual dates.

You don't have to walk 7 nights to be able to walk so someone who didn't have enough points to cover a more expensive time could just cut it down to fewer nights.
That CAN backfire, though. I was walking a BRV reservation for first weekend in December, at only 3 nights at a time, and then once I had Nov 30-Dec 2, but then when I went to move it forward on 12/31, the nights of the 2nd and 3rd ahead of me had disappeared. Which shouldn't be possible, of course; Disney pulled those rooms. Now I wished I had just booked the whole week, as it had been available when I moved ahead to Nov 30-Dec 2. :(

That is true but that is even possible with a 7 night walk as well if things get removed from Disney end.

But, barring that, as long as you have at least two nights, a walk will work.

I'm amazed sometimes by the amount of extra time and extra points people seem to have sometimes to walk a tough-to-get reservation weeks in advance. More power to you if you can do it. But it often tends to mess up folks trying to make a reservation 11 months out for the harder to get rooms - we need to wait for the walkers to walk on by the dates we need. Sometimes you walk by and sometimes you don't....!

Is this why the DVC site is so slow this morning? LOL. Newer member here, and just got back from our Welcome Home trip before Christmas. Thankfully our Home Resort is SSR so I was easily able to nab a studio for the first weekend in Dec, but holy moly is the site slow.

It doesn't take extra points and really only takes a few minutes every 6 days. People often talk about how much effort it is but they're also posting all day long on forums and FB. Even taking 2-3 minutes/day isn't much effort. I'm on my computer all the time and am on the member site quite a bit anyways so it really doesn't take much to modify my reservations.

No, they're working on things today behind the scenes (moving to the new member cards and likely some page updates for 2022).
