Tobacco Road Marathon/Half Cary (Raleigh), NC 03-21-2010

DH and I are signed up.. We try to run on the ATT once or twice a month.. It's great... It's great how quickly its filling up...Maybe I will even get a PR on it.... A girl can dream right

I'm signed up for the full. It will probably be a solo trip for me. Tracy is scheduled to work that weekend. The BOTS are representing!

Hey guys. This is my first posting...

I'm signed up to run the full at Tobacco Road too! It'll be a big change from last month's Goofy Challenge, but the trail is so nice, and it's so scenic. Firm, packed trail. No roots to worry about. I am concerned that it may be a little congested in spots, as the 10 miler in October with 400 participants seemed a little crowded in spots. Regardless, it'll be a good time, and we can say WE DID IT FIRST!!!!

Good luck!

Welcome to WISH atrane! Hope you can stick around and play on these boards a bit.

Thanks for the info on the trail. We have an event here on a crushed gravel trail (Towpath) and I am thinking Tobacco Road will be similar. I look forward to trying it congestion and all!

Unfortunately, both races have reached capacity and there is no wait list......BUMMER! JenB and Butch were also shut out. Frankly, I am not surprised. When I saw that so much of the course was an out and back, I seriously wondered how runners would fit in both directions. I guess limiting the numbers was the only way to make it work. We stalled about signing up because we were trying to change hubby's work commitments for that weekend. I'm greatly disappointed, but we'll still be there scream-teaming.

Well, I'm signed up for the half. I've been pretty slack in my training since the Goofy. It's too late to get serious, but I'd better at least get consistant! :)

Do we want to start thinking about a WISH meet the night before? I've talked to a couple of people who live in Cary about possible restaurants, since we rarely go to that side of town to eat. One suggestion was Biaggi's http://www.biaggis.com/. There's also a Bonefish Grill near the host hotel, as well as a pretty decent pizza restaurant http://www.looppizzagrill.com/ not too far away.

Any thoughts?

Jackie

Although we're not doing the race, we would love to meet up with everyone. Unfortunately we have something the night before, but are available for anything the group does on Sunday, either right after the race or later on that afternoon/evening.

We arrive on Saturday and would love to meet for a bite to eat. I'll check with DH if he has a preference.

I'm thinking anything would work with the priority of getting back to hotel early enough to rest for the evening.

Did our 10 mile run this morning on the course. Started at the park where the race begins, followed the course out for 5 miles and then turned around. First 3 miles are on the road, and it rolls. A lot. Then you're on the American Tobacco Trail for the next 7 miles, and it will be easy going, except for the potential traffic problems of 2500 people on a 12 foot wide trail. 3 weeks to go!

Jackie

Has anyone made any plans for getting together on Sunday? We plan to scream-team Sunday morning and are available to do anything with the group afterwards. We really would love to see everyone since we are not doing the race.
We already have plans for Saturday, so that won't work.

This is my first post on the Wish board, but I am also running the half. This is my first race & I am soooooo nervous. I've trained as much as I can...not much more to do at this point. Good luck to all the runners! Thanks to all the screamers! 9 days to go!!!!

Carrie

Carrie, so glad you've joined in here. It will be fun! I'm hoping to have my WISH shirt on for the event and I'll be brining up the back of the event. Say hi to me.

Saturday looks like we'll get there just in time for expo and a quick bite then bed.

Welcome Carrie! Glad you joined in.

Just to throw this out for anyone who's interested... they offered a limited number of parking passes for the lot at the actual start line. Everyone else will have to ride a shuttle from a larger lot a few miles away. If you have a parking pass, you have to have at least 3 people in your car to get into the lot. I have a pass, but so far it's only DH and me in our vehicle (we can drive either our SUV or minivan.) We have the option of carpooling with some other runners from our group, but if anyone here wants to meet somewhere and ride with us, we'd be more than happy to have you join us.

Jeanne - Don't know if you and John want to be there to scream team as early as we'll be getting there, but you're welcome to come with us and have access to the start area if you want!

Right now, if anyone is interested, I'm thinking of Biaggi's for dinner on Saturday night, maybe around 6:00? If you'd like to join us, either PM me or respond here and I'll try to make a reservation later this week.

Jackie

Carrie - Looking forward to meeting you next week.

Jeanne - I so wish we could stay and visit on Sunday but we need to hurry home to shuttle the girls around to evening activities on Sunday. I hope we get to see you before the start of the race or somewhere on the course.
We might be able to do an early lunch on Sunday but don't count on us when making plans.

Jackie - Biaggi's sounds good for us. Please add Mike and I to the reservation. Thanks so much for offering to plan a dinner. It's always so much fun to see WISHers the night before the race. 6:00 or even earlier will work for us. I don't like to eat too late the evening before a race.

PARKING PASS
We also have a parking pass. Chester, Mike and I will be riding together. We also have room for three or four more in our van if anyone wants to ride with us to the start. We're staying at Embassy Suites.
I think we also have an extra parking pass, if anyone has a party of three or more that needs a pass for race morning.

Lily, Wendy, Chester, atrane - looking forward to see you too!!!!

Is there anyone else going?

Thanks for the kind welcome! I am going to try & be in the very back of the start so I don't mess up anyone who is running for time. I am just running to finish! I have read many tips for races...one of them saying to put your name somewhere on your shirt. Do people really do that? Also, do you have any other tips for a first-time racer?

Thanks again for the kind welcome. I hope to meet you all on race day!
