How many Diser's wear a hat to the parks? Our next trip will be next Aug. and I plan on bringing a hat with me, also do you have children who wear a hat to sheild them from the sun. I think I would buy one for my DS who will be 12 if he would wear it.

Hubby and I both wear hats, keeps our face and neck from getting to much sun. When the kids were younger they wore hats also..and sunglasses. Just get your son in the practice now. Very important to protect his eyes and skin.

I would recommend wearing a hat, especially if you are visting in August. August is one of the hottest months in Florida. Trust me I live in Florida, and the weather has been around 90 - 94 each day. As for as your son, I would do as the last post suggest, work with him, getting him use to wearing a hat. The hat won't totally protect one from the heat, but at least it will help keep your head cool. Anyways, have fun at Disney World.

We prefer to wear visors - they shield the sun but allow air to circulate around the head. Walmart sells them for about $3 each. :umbrella:

I wore a hat last month on the trips every day, except for one afternoon. I was so much hotter without the hat. My toddlers also wore hats. They sell a lot of neat ones in the parks, but you'll pay more. I bought a Mickey hat at Target for $5 before we left.

Wear a hat. You can burn the top of you head too, you know, especially if you have a deecent part in you hair, or are "follicly challenged".
Kids need the protection too, and unless you're willing to goop up you hair with sunscreen, wear a hat.

This message was brought to you by a member of a family were everyone has scars on their heads from Melanoma removal.

We always wear hats at WDW and in summer at home, too. We're always slathered with SPF 30 sunscreen, but the hat does a great job of providing extra protection for your scalp, face and (depending on the style) neck. If we go on a wilder ride we just ram them in one of the backpacks. The kids were 7 & 10 on our last trip and nobody argued about it.

I learned the hard way on our second trip. The top of my head got so badly sunburned that I was several days sufffering severe headaches and trying to sleep at night was almost impossible because my head would sweat so much I was always soaked. Now I neverr go to Disney without wearing a hat.

They do sell hat retainers that might help keep your hat on some rides. It is a short cord with clips on each end. One end gets clipped to the hat, the other to the back collar of your shirt.

Wear a hat. Here is my goofy safari hat. It protects the top of my head and keeps me cool. CMs said that I am the only smart person that they have seen that day. You won't looks as silly as me, so go for it.

As silly as I may look in my pith helmut from Kilimanjaro Safari, I wouldn't be without in in the parks, especially in the summer. I'll take no sunburn over fashion sense any day.

I too am "follically challenged" and not enough to put sunblock in my hair, so I wear a hat -- sometimes a Tilly hat and sometimes a baseball hat. On rides like ToT or RnR I just sit on it!

what we have done in the past, and has worked very well, and plan to do on our trip next week (WOOHOO!) is bring plain white baseball caps... in addition to wearing them to shield us from the sun, we also have the characters sign them, so we get something useful and a great souvenier all in one! my son has his hats from his two previous trips displayed on the disney shelf in his room, and quite proudly! plus, it's easier than carrying an autograph book and if we don't want to wear them, they can easily be attached to a belt loop!

My hubby always wears a hat in the parks - helps keep the sun off your face & sometimes he can go without sunglasses if he wears the hat. I wear one, maybe every other day or so. I have a visor to keep the sun off my face & a Tigger floppy hat for other days. I have light skin & blonde hair & have frequently gotten sunburned on the top of my head. It can be very painful - if you're out in the sun all day, it would be a great idea to wear a hat at least part of the day. :)

Thanks for all the replys and tips, PrincessDadx2 nice hat where did you get it? gigi1313 that's such a good idea having the characters sign them, I would never have thought of that, going to write that down and put into my Dis folder.
Thanks everyone and wish me luck on getting DS to wear one.

We get our sun gear at www.sunprecautions.com They sell SPF protected clothing that we bought for ourselves and kids for using at the pool, etc. It is expensive, but DW has a lot of skin cancer in her family, so we think it is worth it.

we all wear hats, sunglasses, sun screen, I tried to not wear a hat, that lasted about 2 hours and bought a cool mickey visor. took it off for our picture in front of castle and have "hat hair" so I will just leave hat on in pic next time! :earseek:

Great idea to have characters sign the hat, but what happens when you run out of room.

I put my pins on my plain white hat from Walmart for $3!!!

gigi, great idea.

PrincessDad - nice hat!! (I've seen these in sporting goods stores, DH refuses to wear one!). Where did you get your Dis shirt?

I like to wear my goofy hat.
I have one of the older ones, that has the longer bill.
It does a good job of keeping the sun off of my nose.
The problem is, a lot of my photos have this white spot in the upper corner, that I suspect it is goofy's tooth.
I like to keep the teeth slightly damp, so that they hang down properly.

I always buy the kids hats, and I tell them to pick one they will want to wear. However, so often the hats are choosen for the look, and are not that practical, and do not get worn.
I am learning.
I tend to go with different children each trip. I have no kids but lots of nieces and nephews and cousins and neighbors.
