To wait or not to wait-that is the question

I am planning to do the Jan 20th cruise on Disney Magic out of Miami with my family of four. My sister's family (5) has already booked. Should I book now or wait until the last minute discounted fares come out?

I'm all about saving a buck and not being able to pick the room I'm in isn't the end of the world. I am looking at the cheapest veranda room currently.

If you NEED to be on the cruise, I would book now and buy travel insurance that allows you to cancel at any time for any reason. IF the fares drop at the last minute, reshop the cruise for the savings (less the cost of the insurance)...but at least you are on the ship!

Is it accurate to say that the chance of this ship filling to capacity is low because of it being in January? Therefore, I should be able to get the quarantee rate?

Hi,

I would book now. Especially since a part of your family is already book, it would be sad if you were not able to get a cabin because it sold out. Second, even though you might get a lower fare, some category stateroom prices have restrictions apply warning on them. Also, I would suggest booking now, just so you do not have to stress about getting a reservation later.

While that's possible, it does not mean the DCL will definitely offer a *GT rate. There were extremely few if any offered this summer, even on cruises that didn't appear to be selling out; granted, summer is peak. There have been more this fall, which is a much slower time as is January. But definitely not on ALL sailings. You can check discounts on this thread, where Justacruiser has been tracking them for about the past year and a half: http://www.disboards.com/threads/gt-mto-flr-discount-list-updated-8-20-2015-new-discounts.3244232/

Basically, I'm saying it's a gamble and only you can decide whether to take that risk. If a *GT isn't offered, will you still book the cruise at the going rate? If I really wanted to be on that cruise with my extended family, I would book it now. But waiting for discounts never quite seem to work out for me :upsidedow

Enjoy your cruise!

Book now prices go up and up and up.
As usually bad info. You have never booked a discounted in your cruise in your life nor do you watch prices so why do you always feel the need to comment on these threads with the same canned response. Rates don't always go up and up if you watched prices you would know that.

Jan is a slow month. Miami doesn't sell well. I would wait, but the prices aren't particularly high anyway. Whatever you decide enjoy your cruise.

Well look at all the other responses the vast majority agree with me, and with DCL that is the normal thing. Best to read all the other comments on this very thread.

I state my opinions as opinions, never as fact, and I never give a rats behind if anybody agrees with me. I did not read one post on here that agreed with your statement that prices go up and up on every cruise.

Normally, I would tell anyone with flexibility to wait for a last-minute fare. But MAN, those fares are absurd and few and far between this year! Easily $1000 more per cruise than we've paid in the past year. So now it's hard to recommend taking the gamble and waiting--especially if you have a set date you need to sail. Last year I would have said January was practically a slam-dunk for a *GT, but not anymore!

How to say this delicately: please wash your dirty clothes in private? (I don't care who started the war and the reasons, I just think it's not appropriate to do this "in public".)

To Suzette5181, I would book right away the type of stateroom you want and keep watching. If prices go lower, you can rebook.

The prices only go lower after PIF date so you cant rebook without losing your deposit.[/QUOTE]

If the prices get really low (I don't know about DCL but I have seen other cruiselines go very low with last minute bookings), it could be worth losing the deposit.

That would be no fun this is a public forum. Prices don't go down until after PIF date so you can't rebook. You would lose your deposit. Some people are ok with that because they still come out ahead.

Op must be ok with the price because she booked it. I just don't want her to get her hopes about being able to rebook.
