To upgrade or not to upgrade....

I am taking my 2 DDGs on a budget trip Nov 3-8. We have ASmu for $49 per night. I just received a postcard rate for POR for $79. With taxes included the 5 nights would cost an additional $190. I'd like to upgrade but not sure it would be worth it for the little amount of time we'll spend at the resort. Please convince me one way or the other. :)

I'd see if you can stay at either the Movies or Pop for that same price. If not, then make sure you request a room closest to the main building. It's a bit pread out length wise and we found it quite a walk back to the room (we were in the Rock building) after a long day at the parks. If you feel that you won't spend alot of time in the room, I'd save the money.

we stayed in the calypso building, now they cal it a preferred location but it is, close to everything. we I stayed there it was hurricane (can't remeber what her name was) and to go to the food court we would leave our room, walk a few steps and Vilola, there we were. If it is just you and you 2 DDs stay there, that is 4190 dollars in your pocket

If you think you can swing the $190, I'd say go for it. The value resorts are nice, but the mods are a bit nicer. I am a big fan of the PO (although I prefer the POFQ over POR). The room is a bit larger, so you'll feel a bit less cramped.

How old are your granddaughters? Do you think you'll be using the pool? Is so, do you think they'd like the slide?

If you are planning on hitting downtown Disney, the boat from the POR is a nice switch from the buses that you have to take everywhere else :)

I tend to find that the atmosphere is prettier and more relaxing at the mods than at the values.

I haven't stayed at POR but we did stay at AS Movies once -- that was enough for us! The rooms were small, the food court was not our thing, and we just didn't like it in general. The bus transportation was a real pain. After that we moved onto CBR and loved it! It was fantastic. The rooms are bigger, the setting beautiful, and the food court had a terrific variety. The mods are definitely nicer than the values. The values are o.k. if you aren't planning on spending much time in your room or at the resort. Good luck!

Having stayed at both AllStarMu and POR, I would say you are fine either way. The beds are the same size in both rooms. POR does have a double sink vanity. But the toilet area at AllStarMu seemed to be a bit larger than POR. As to the size of the rooms, I didn't think the difference was all that great. POR is a tad bigger. The main pool on Ole Man Island at POR is much better (has a slide etc.) than the pool at AllStarMu. And the theming is more 'adult' at POR. My dd stayed at POR when she was 6, and again when she was 8. then last Dec., at 10, we stayed at AllStarMu. She loved it there. SHe loves POR but says the AllStars are so much more magical for kids. Her words, not mine!!! I would stay with AllStarMu and use the money for more good food.

But, then again....the boat to DTD is really nice from POR. The only issue I have with that is that when we went in early Nov they weren't running the boats. But I think they have started them up again for the cooler months. You won't go wrong either way. Have a terrific trip!!

My DGDs are 7 + 11. They have both been there twice before, but the first time was 4 years ago at CBR and neither remember it. The other time was 2 years ago and we stayed off site at Calypso Cay. We will have a rental car and do not plan on using the busses. Still undecided. Need more personal info on the Values - all the websites make everything look good, so they aren't as reliable as someone who's stayed there.

Personally I would upgrade. The privacy curtain to change behind, the larger room size, the double sinks, IMHO MUCH preferable theming, the quieter atmosphere, all make it worth spending a few extra peso's.
