To Tux or Not To Tux

Yes I know this question is beat to death every month or so, but I have to ask.

When we went on the 7 day in February of 2001 I would guess that less then 25% of the guests arrived to dinner in a tux. Has that number increased at all? If so approximately what % showed up for dinner on the formal night in a tux on your cruise? In 2001 approximately 10-15% showed up dressed in jeans and polo's. Has that changed at all?

Yes, yes I know this is a personal choice and we should do what ever makes us happy and trust me we will. There are three families traveling together and some do not want to spring for the tux, yes they can afford it they are being cheap(one lawyer and one doctor).

Thanks for your input......

Oh and by they way my boys and I will be tuxin' it, in matching tuxs for formal night and matching vests for the semi-formal....

We have been on 2 7 day, 2001 and 2002. On both cruises I did not see many men in Tux. Saw a few dressed for a sporting event-but I won't go there. My husband was dressed in a black suit and tie for formal night and the same black suit with a red and black silk shirt (no tie) for semi-formal night (cuts down on packing) both years and will probably wear the same this August. He looked great, our 6/7 yr old grandson wore a pair of black pants with silk vest and the same pants with grey shirt/tie. I really don't see the need to rent a tux, if you have one fine, if not a black suit does fine.

I have looked everywhere for boys silk patterned tux vests -- always avail to rent, but I'd like to buy on if reasonable price.

My DS was in a wedding and had one of those vest, they are GREAT.

Where did you get it?

I read on one of these board to try ebay, and I was able to get a nearly new vest and tie for a good price. There are several different kinds, but I got the one with Mickey on it for my dh.

There are several on eBay now - just search for mickey mouse vest & mickey mouse bow tie and they will come up.

Another option for the vest is to make one. My sister made matching vests for me and my nephew for our April 2002 cruise. Got the material and patterns from Walmart. :earsboy:

Actually it wasn't a tux vest but a complete outfit, slacks, **** and vest. I got it 2 years ago on clearance at JCPenny Catalog and he wore it both years on the cruise. I just ordered a suit on clearance for my grandson this year and saw they have the same kind of outfits on clearance for $29.99(reg. 49.99). Go to the JCPenney site and go to on line outlet store and then click on boys. If you are interested and can't find it post back and I will give you the item number. The one I got was very good quality, and can be used two ways. He wore it to formal night with the vest and semiformal with a tie added and vest removed.l
