I dont normally do black friday, ever. For years my husband was always out of town on that day and my kids were little so no shopping for me. This year, however, my kids are older and I can go out. I would like to go to Walmart and get the 198 laptop for my dd but Im completely clueless as to the best way to get one. So can any of you give me some good advice, tips, or tricks to secure one of these?

Wal-Mart is doing things different this year.

Instead of closing and then re-opening early in the morning, they are going to stay open (assuming it's a 24hour store). They will place the items on the floor but they will be guarded by employees. You will need to line up for the item you want and then just wait for the correct time.

They are hoping to not have a repeat of last year with crowds rushing through the door and employees being hurt and in one case actually killed.

Happy to help. Our Walmart store has always been 24 hour, so I'm assuming that they are all going to do it the way our store always has. I have spent many a Black Friday morning at Walmart.

There will be pallets lined through all of the walkways. The pallets are covered in plastic. In some cases you will be able to see what is on them, in some cases it is dark plastic and you can't see. Our store actually prints maps telling you where everything is and on what pallets. I ask employees or other people. Than you must stake out your place around the pallet.

The store employees stand guard around the pallets so nobody tears off any plastic until 5:00 am. Than at 5:00 the employees use box cutters to cut off the plastic and the chaos begins with in many cases items being passed over peoples heads. Sometimes the customers can't wait for the plastic to be removed, one year a guy was tearing it with his teeth.

If what you want is not a big item there always seemed to be plenty to go around. With a laptop I would get there early and stake out my place!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice. I guess this may not be an option for me because theres no way im going to be sitting in a Walmart all night long. Not happening. I guess we will have to pass on the laptop this year. Thanks guys.

It's possible that the item may be online for sale.

It's showing as a doorbuster in the ad. It maybe online, and it may not be online.

I am going to walmart on black friday. I am getting the trampoline. Do they usually have alot of them or do you think I should get there about 3-4AM?

I would get there about then just in case.

Actually at our Walmart (a 24 hour store as well that stayed open last year) All the electronics stuff that included game systems, cameras, and computers were behind the electronics desk. You had to stand in a long line and ask for what you wanted when it was your turn and hope they had not already run out. There were not seperate lines for each thing, just one big long line.

The Blu-ray players, DVD players, printers, and TVs were on pallets.

Where is the WM add for BF? Also, what type of computer is it that is 198.? That would be a great deal. :)

There are several sites that have the ad posted. I use bfads.net

We go every year and this is how we've experienced it too; however, sometimes there were different locations for the laptops (for example: ours started a line by the deli).

My brother manages a walmart and if I were you, I'd ask them how they are doing it before Black Friday so you know what to expect.

We did Wal-Mart one year to get a laptop. Ours was 24-hour and stayed open. On our way back from Thanksgiving dinner with the extended family, we decided to stop by on a whim. It was about midnight. People were already in line. They only had ten or fifteen laptops, and we stood in a line at the front of the store (inside). Getting there at midnight, we were seven and eight in line. We both took numbers, but I ended up giving mine to a guy who came late and would have lost out. About thirty minutes to the rush, we were moved back to the pallet.

After that, everything was a blur. :lmao:

It was actually kind of fun, though. We brought in chairs and chatted with those around us. I don't know if that's how it will work this year, but just so you have an idea about how it has gone at one Wal-mart in the past.

I usually just hit Target now. You have to wait outside in the cold there. Not so fun in that respect, but I find more I want at Target.

I wanted to ask those of you who know phone deals if the one through Verizon is good? I think it's the $40 a month phone deal with internet and unlimited texting? My contract expired a long time ago and looking for another contract with a good deal. It sounds good, but I don't know what's out there.
