To the person in the Target parking lot today...

As for finding an employee to help? Like I said before, they told me to leave it. Not all grocery stores have carry-out services. I asked for help once and the girl laughed and said "It would be nice if we had that, huh?"

Pembro - I am in shock that a grocery store worker would tell you to do that! In this case then the store would be responsible for any damage done to a car because of what they told you to do.

Please don't take this in a "I don't believe you" way this is more of a "I can't believe what an idiot the store manager is" way.

Can't your walker stand with you for two minutes while you unload groceries? How hold is the child? What about leaving the cart with groceries at the front of the store

My boys are in College!:p

I was just remembering how hard it was to shop with both of them as the older 'walker" was a handful.:Pinkbounc

Well.....I guess if we didn't have the occasional inconsiderate person who doesn't return their cart, we wouldn't be having this conversation.....Would we?

septbride, That is an honest to God, true story! Very full cart, wiggling, way beyond done toddler and a parking lot that was on a hill......I didn't shop there ever again.

Personally, I feel it is very unsafe to leave your kids in the car while you return the cart to the corral-they could be car-jacked!

I don't leave the car running. No one's going to steal the car. I put the kids in the car first. Then load my groceries (or whatever), then return the cart. Like I said before, I try to park next to the corrals so it's easier. Works great--even with two kids.

I used to do that with my middle son. Then years ago when I was living in Texas, a mother had her newborn stolen from her car when she went to return the cart. They found the baby about 2 hours later....a mother who had recently lost a child to SIDS had been scoping out the parking lot waiting for a chance. They had it on video.

After that, I would lock the doors when I returned the cart. But when the weather is hot, you don't feel all that great about leaving your kids in a hot locked car either.

I'm glad I have a 14yo now. I agree, I just make him return the cart most of the time now. :)

saw a post that said something similar to .....I just push my cart into the cross hatch area.....

PLEASE DO NOT PUSH YOUR CARTS INTO THE CROSS HATCH AREA... THAT IS A NO PARKING AREA...

I will say that most disabled people will go out of their way to put carts away, park correctly, wait to use the handi stall in the bathroom, pay for horrible seating which is accessible at entertainment venues, shake off all the miserable whispered comments made by people who ? their disablility ... we are kinda like AVIS.. we just try harder:D ;) :D

may I just say "thank you" for the 2 inch long 1/4 inch deep crease your cart put in my bumper this afternoon!!!

You are welcome! :D

To the original poster:

Have you actually tried to push out the dent(or your husband)????My car has a plastic bumper as I guess most do these days and about 6 months after getting it I had a cat run out in front of me and I hit it on accident. It put a very LARGE dent in my plastic bumper (much larger than the one put in yours by the cart). I was just sick about it(first of all about hitting the cat and second of all because it was a pretty new car) Anyway I knew I just couldnt get the car fixed right then and I was horrified to think I would have to drive around with this dent in my bumper. My husband came out to look at it and he layed on the ground and reached his hand in under the front bumper and pushed hard on it and it popped right back out and you can not tell anything was ever wrong with it.

I have also seen on TV where you can take a plunger(the bathroom type) and can pull out dents like that!!! Another option as I mentioned before is to look in the yellow pages for someone that does this type of thing. The compant here is called "The Dent Devil" He uses some type of suction and gets out most dents (small and large plastic or not) as long as the area has not been broken or cracked. This works also on hail damage.

Please at least give these things a try before condeming my ideas. I am only trying to help. I never would have thought my bumper would look like new again just by pushing it out and it not cost me a fortune.

Hey!! What really makes me mad are the people that drive huge SUVs and cant park straight in between the lines of the parking space and then ding your car as they get in or out of their car. I have much more damage from those type people than the folks that dont take their carts back!!!!;)

"Pushing" a cart - empty or full - and needing to "lean" on a cart for balance are two entirely different situations.. Pembo seems to have a problem with balance - and thus the need to "lean" on the cart until she is able to return safely to her car..

Unless you have been in her particular circumstance, how can you really know how you would handle it?

Hope things improve for you soon, Pembo.. :)

ITA, totally different situations...I was approaching the discussion with the assumption that it was about able-bodied people who refuse to return the carts (for whatever reason) and the damage loose carts can cause.

Now that's an entirely different story.. Those people I would like to smack !! LOL :teeth:

I was at BJ's Wholesale Club shopping after we were hit by Hurricane Charley and came outside with my groceries to find that some inconsiderate human being let a shopping car slam into my car breaking the headlight!!! I was parked far away from others as I always do; needless to say I was not a happy camper . I had just suffered hurricane damage to my home and like a lot of Floridians had other issues at home to deal with and certainly did not appreciate the added expense.
