<<<<<The way we survived was that there was a pay phone on every corner. Every store had one, schools had them, there were actually phone booths on streets.
That is not the case today. In many places, it is very difficult to find a public phone. In my last posts, I was being sarcastic, but it is true that in our highschool, there are no public phones. After the final bell rings - kids may not use the school phones. So, if they miss the bus, their practice runs late, etc - unless you have a cell - you cannot call anybody. When we were kids - our parents used to make sure we had a dime/quarter to call home for emergencies. Now, in many situations, kids need a cell phone to call home.I for one, will not rely on coaches, friends, etc to always have a cell handy in order for my kid to call me if needed. My kids all got cell phones as soon as they spent any time away from me - ie: sports practice, after school activities, etc. They are cheap and as somebody else said - it is just talk.>>>>
And tis is why i said that the MIGO phone is a great idea, i like the fact that they can reach me and my DH or 911 in case of an emergency, i just don't think they need a cell phone to talk to friends and such. once again just my OP! but i know about the fewer public phones, either that or they are all broken now adays!
