For those people living in the DC area, have you been to the new Wegmans that opened a few weeks ago? (Sterling/Dulles area)

If you have what do you think of it? I've seen pictures and videos of the crowds on opening day and am curious to see what people think of the store.

i haven't been yet but i grew up in the syracuse area and i've never seen any grocery store in this area that compares to the wegman's in dewitt. maybe in a few months after the crowds die down i will check it out. :)

i went to it last week. it is like a cafe, subway ,deli stoe added to the surpermarket part. plus a garden shop ,giftshop and international foods store. it was interesting but a little overwhelming if all you want is a few groceries. a nice place to visit but not on a regular basis.

Wegman's honey mustard rocks. Pick up some if you go!

Well, I'm glad to hear from another Center New Yorker. (I still live here), of course.

Go to WEgman's all the time. My DH is actually a manager there, not Dewitt store, though. I heard the Dulles store was having record-breaking sales due to the amount of New Yorkers who have moved down there and MISS Wegman's. I've been other stores in the south and none seem to really match.

We have Wegmans here and it's AWESOME!!! I do all my shopping there, and it blows away any of the other grocery stores here!!!

maybe if the dulles wegmans does really well they'll open another one in this area closer to where i live. we have like 5 grocery stores around where i live, but none of them are that great.

in high school, one of the in things to do was to go hang out at the dewitt wegmans since it was 24 hour. :o :p

I was just curious because I'm a trainer at one of the Buffalo Wegmans.(Alberta Dr) We sent people down to work for the 3 weeks of grand opening and they siad it was such an awesome store. I was on back up to go, but my training scedule got really heavy and I wasn't able to work it out.

They have another store planned for Virginia..I believe it is Fairfax. It is scheduled for a fall opening. I'm hoping I can get down for this opening.

I also go to Lori's Princeton, NJ Wegmans, and that place borders on a religious experience. We had never seen anything like it in this area before. My relatives ask me to take them when they visit.

YEP!!! My mother lives out on the Jersey Shore and her Wegmans isn't opening up until this fall. EVERYTIME she visits she has to go there!!! It's just like nothing else around!

This is good to know ... apparently, to draw out New Yorkers, all you have to do is start talking about Wegman's ;)

The Wegman's in Dewitt is certainly a nice store. It's beaten out Price Chopper as my primary grocery store.

That is so true. ROFL!!!
::yes:: :rotfl:

I've been to Wegman's and think it is amazing. I wish they would open one closer to me. The nearest one is around an hour away so I only go when we are visiting my BIL.

Hi Roemama1

Another CNY resident here. We moved here from just outside NYC last year. When people heard where we were moving to, they immediately said " oh, you will be able to shop at Wegman's "

Boy, were they right. Wegman's is something that has to be experienced to be believed. They quite simply "built a better mousetrap". The variety and quality of their products cannot be beaten. And the check out staff is like no where else. They are alwasy cheerful and pack WELL. I swear they send them all off to a secret packing college.

I first visited a Wegman's when we brought our DD to her college. If it wasn't 5 hours away, I'd go there all the time. (Darned frozen food tends to thaw out after the first two hours.;) )

It's a great supermarket. I hope that they include this area in their expansion plans. I'd give up Shoprite in a heartbeat for a Wegmans.

(peeking out of my igloo)

Danny Wegmans knows how to pack 'em in. I only go to the Wegmans in Dewitt if I need a speciality item. It's just too darned crowded and big. Shopping that should take 45 minutes ends up taking well over an hour. I usually go to James Street Wegmans or Fayetteville P&C (they have sushi and prepared meals too, and I like to spread the wealth). :Pinkbounc

For those of you new to Wegmans, get the little recipe cards they you will find in different departments. They have great easy and healthy meals.

I live close to the Dulles Wegmans and love it!! I didn't go the day they opened, but went a few days later and it was still packed. I heard they are openning on in Fairfax and Springfield also. I have been doing all my shopping there. It is very overwhelming at first, but I am starting to get use to it. My DS10 loves to go, but DD# hates it. She gives me a hard time when I take her. I will be glad when they get more open, so the crowds won't be as bad.

We have a Wegman's about 15 minutes from here and I love it but I have to avoid it. I'm a sucker for convenience foods and already prepared foods, and I hate to cook, Wegmans is like heaven for me! If I shopped there all the time my grocery bill would triple.

Hey, Nancy

I'm waiting on the Fairfax store, it's right down the street! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
