To save $250, is it worth it?

Airport 30 min away, assigned seating (Continental), ticket $245 a person. Has better times for travel.

Airport 1 1/2 hours away, no assigned seating (Southwest), ticket $200 a person. Has decent times but not as good as other option.

Will need 5 tickets..........which would you choose?

Want to add......the dates are for mid August and both airports are in Houston. I have never seen a lower price for Southwest. I guess they don't *ding* Houston?!?. If anyone has gotten a better price from Houston please let me know.

I would choose southwest, because if a better rate comes out later, you can rebook at the lower rate and get a credit on a future flight. JMHO.

I'm voting for the most convenient, location & flight time wise. The assigned seats is definately a bonus for a family of five!

I'd go for the closer airport and better times with assigned seating. But thats me.

Another vote for closer airport/assigned seats. ESPECIALLY with a family of 5! Even if you get group A, with all the pre-boards that get on, you'll be lucky to find 3 seats near each other - 5, I highly doubt.

My friend and I only had 8 people ahead of us in the A group, and for us to sit together the first row that had 2 seats together was 3 rows from the back of the plane. Yeah, that many pre-boarders AND that many RUDE JERKS who took aisle and window leaving the middle seat open in the hopes that nobody would sit there and they'd have more space.

It was also the noisiest flight I've ever been on in my life! Not even the old party planes coming home from Cancun (with many drunks on board) were THAT loud! (And I've flown a LOT.)

It would have to be a savings of over $100 per person for me to endure that mess again.

I also would chose the closer airport with better times, and assigned seating. I think it would just make things much less stressful, trying to get seats together, etc...

Me too!

I'd rather pay a little more for a closer airport than drive 1 1/2 hours to save a few hundred dollars. No, we're not rich. Far from it. But when you're already spending several thousand dollars on a vacation, what's a few hundred more? I'll just pick up some extra hours at work to justify paying the extra airfare. I have done just that in the past.

For $250 no I wouldn't but we saved almost $700 (on a DING) on four tickets so for that yes we are.

We have learned that it is so worth the extra money to fly at the airport that is closer to us. I would definitely go for the closer airport with the better times.

I would choose the lower price. I am doing essentially the same thing for my upcoming flight.
