To rent or transfer?

Quick question for a friend...

She has some points to get rid of before August. Is it easier/better to transfer them or to make a reservation for somebody and rent it out (from these boards I am guessing)?

My guess is to transfer b/c once they get the points it is not your problem anymore while you need to worry about the reservation until they check out.

Any advice?

Also on payment? Better to ask for a bank check? Paypal? When to ask for payment etc?

My opinion would be to transfer, just my 2 cents. It would be easier and faster. There would be no leg work involved in making and maintaining a reservation just a call to MS to move the points.

Payment - I use paypal and add 3% to cover fees.

If the points are either borrowed or banked they cannot be transferred so a reservation rental (travel completed before end of July) would be the only option. If they are this years points some of them could still be banked into next year -25% of total points owned at this point up until the end of this month if she has an August use year. I always ask for payment upon receipt of the written confirmation by the renting party. Paypal is the quickest form of payment but I prefer a check so I don't have to pay the fees. I say I want it in time to clear before I reach that
31 day cancellation with no penalty point. Good luck to your friend.

Thanks for the advice. I will have to check on her use year but I am guessing it is August. I will double-check on the banking thing also.

hmmmmm, We purchased in Jan 300 VWL point contract. After banking the 300 2006 points, I still have 3 points left over that were banked from 2005 I guess, UY-Sept. So, I cannot give these points to anyone who might be 3 points short? they expire Aug 31, 2007.
