To rent a golf cart, or not to rent a golf cart... that is the question.

Should I rent a golf cart or not?

  • Rent the golf cart... it just won't be enjoyable without it.

  • Rely on Disney transportation, it is really not that bad.

  • Maybe only rent the golf cart for a few days toward the end... when your legs are jello.

Good afternoon all!

I will be staying at the Fort for the VERY first time in January 2009, and I am so excited I could explode. pixiedust:

I REALLY want to rent a golf cart, but I can think of so many other things to spend the $50 a day on. $350 seems so expensive to me... but maybe I am just cheap.

So I thought I would come to you guys with a poll. Try to be objective, for those of you that own a golf cart and just love looping, and remember that I have to part with more money for the golf cart than I do to rent the site.

Before we owned our own we just rented for our free days to loop. I'm frugal also.

I bring a bicycle. $50 a day is really expensive for it to sit at either the settlement or outpost while you are at the parks.

Now, if you have a couple of days you are just hanging at the Fort, then perhaps.

Rent a cart--no way for the 50 bucks a day. It's Cheaper to rent a car than a cart thats why we are bring our own cart 2 trips and the trailer is paid for. You can rent a car for $100.00 a week at Disney's car care center.

Having a cart while at FW is great period. That said I was always to cheap to rent one and pay $50 a day. Here is where logic goes out the window. I bought a gas cart to take to FW for $1000.00. Put another $1000.00 in it to make it look how I wanted it to. Then spent $2200.00 on a swivel wheel to put behind my 5er to get the cart to FW. Used it one time to get my cart to the fort and back. Then got back from the Fort found another gas cart for a grand so I bought it for my parents to use at FW. But had to get it to FW. So sold my 5er and ordered a new toy hauler that I could fit 2 golf carts in. Did I mention my 5er was going to be paid off in 1 year. Now I owe for many more years. So after all that $50 bucks a day for 2 weeks out of the year at FW is a deal. But I love my carts and the new trailer so oh well :confused3 Oh yeah I voted get the cart .

My vote is get the cart yeah it will sit at the settlement or outpost but when you get back from the park you will love that you can get on the cart and go right to your site you don't have to wait for another bus then walk to your site you can also go from your site direct to the bus to the parks maybe i'm just lazy but after walking the parks its nice to make the direct connection from bus to campsite plus its always fun jst cruising or looping as said before

We only rent a cart on our days off from the parks or when we're going to a special party - MNSSHP or MVMCP - because we take the day off until the party ... so we use the cart for most of the day and then when returning to the Fort at like 1 am it's great being able to jump on the cart and zoom to your room.
We went to MVMCP in Nov and didn't have a cart- OMG, we waited literally 45mins for a bus at 1 am in the freezing cold. Yes, it was very cold- we all huddled together {strangers included} to stay warm. :rotfl:
The bus driver was met with freezing, tired, angry, guests. :guilty:

I'm frugal too. When we first started camping at the Fort, I rented one (but only after listening to a whiny DH complain about his bony butt hurting from the bike seat). I only rented it for a day but then I was hooked. I tried to rent it for the rest of our stay but they were all reserved. Now when we go to the Fort, we always reserve a cart for our length of stay. It's totally worth it when you need those 2:00 a.m. potty breaks and your site is 432 feet from the comfort station. And it's also great for those multiple visits to TE to refill mugs. :)

I voted to rent the golf cart. Looping is great. They really do come in handy. We rented our first year then my husband decided we needed to buy one of our own. :goodvibes

Just rent a cart for the days your rest days at the fort. We have done it once each time were are there. Or try to anyway.

I vote NO!!!!!!!! We spend most all of our days at WDW in "THE WORLD" and feel it would be a waste of our money to rent something to leave at the outpost or our campsite all day!:confused3
If I could plan ahead enough to know exactly what day I would have for my day "off" I might rent one for the day to "loop" at the Fort but I just can't see paying $50.00 to ride around in a golf cart. I have stopped planning my days so much on our trips so if you don't rent one ahead of time you pretty much can forget it anyway.
Now if you have a golf cart you can bring with you, that is another story...go for it and have a blast!!!!!:thumbsup2

I say rent it for a couple of days to see how you like it. Use Disney transportation the rest of the days you are going to the park. This way, you can see the fort by looping with the cart and not spend a ton of money on the rental. We ended up buying a cart.

I voted to just rent one for a couple of days. They are alot of fun and they do make getting around FW easier. Then you will know if its worth buying one. I think it is but I have not found one in my price range.:lmao: I just have a difficult time with handing that kind of money over to rent one.

I voted to get the cart, but .... I am waiting for the day when all of my kids can ride bikes or walk a decent distance so I can use that $$$ for something else. At this stage we usually are carrying them off the boat sleeping after a day at MK plus dragging a stroller and diaper bag and it sure is nice to see that cart waiting there to whisk us back to the TT rather than hauling them all the way over to the bus stop past Pioneer Hall and then from our stop to the site, not to mention waiting on the bus!

I know what you mean. :rotfl: We had to get a cart. Then we had to have one that was lifted. This meant we had to get a special order enclosed trailer to tow it with since the cart was too tall to fit through a normal trailer door. The list goes on and on. We do take it on other camping trips and my husband put a hitch on it so he can move the trailer around or some of our other stuff around so that makes it worth it. :cool2:

We play with our golf cart almost everyday (we are just over grown kids)

Proud to say we are members of the "Big Kids" club too. Nothing wrong with that! :thumbsup2

I voted YES on the golf cart- last time was the first time we brought a golf cart to the Fort and the Fort was so much more fun. Coming back from the parks and hoping on the cart is so relaxing after a fun day in the parks!

I voted go for the cart. Several reasons for going that way. First off that long trek back to your campsite after EMH in the park.........walking is very hard for my DH and myself because of medical problems........and we just love riding around and looking at the animal life at night....lots of deer. We have ressies for Christmas this year and just can't wait for our nightly trips around to see the Christmas decorations at the campsites. Good luck with your decision.:thumbsup2
