To rent a car or not to rent a car?

Endless stream of tail lights....maybe open your eyes at closing....everyone trying to leave at closing of any park, we've seen it from the buses, ....do I want to be in that chaos...no...but if that's your bag...so be it...
I was at closing of MK on July 4 (well technically the 5th by then), closing of Epcot on July 5, closing of HS on July 6, closing of AK on July 7 and closing of MK on July 9 (technically the 10th) my eyes were open because I was driving a car. We drove out of the lots with no lines at all. I am definitely not saying it never happens..I had read horror stories and was prepared for a nightmare but we did not even hit a single slow down. We had a bit of traffic leaving Sea World at closing but even that was only a handful of cars that added about 2 minutes to our return travel time.

We find the bus system quicker most of the time! We do rent a car but rarely drive to the parks anymore. We find it much more stress free letting someone else do the driving through the traffic!! By the time you drive to a park and have to wait for a tram (depending on how close you get to park). Then you have to do it all over again when you leave! No thanks!! We will take the bus! :goodvibes To each there own!!:confused3

I like having a car because I like having my own space and NOT dealing with cranky "other" people on the bus, along with the possibility of having to stand after a long day due to the bus being crowded.

I was there in May. DH and I were going to MK for the 24 hour day. We stayed at CBR and thought we'd try the bus to avoid the TTC. We got to the bus stop at 5:40 and found quite a large group of people there, some of whom had been waiting for FORTY MINUTES! This makes me think that no buses had come to that stop at all that morning. We turned right around and got in the car. The car is way more reliable than the Disney buses, I think!

My singular experience closing down epcot is the parking lot was empty 30 minutes before we finally got on a bus to our resort. The wait for the bus to the Animal Kingdom resort was about an hour. However, to be fair, the buses to all other resorts had cleaned out their queues about the same time the parking lot cleared out. So for any other hotel, it would have been about even.

You're certainly entitled to your take on the matter, but being snarky to someone who has a different experience/opinion than you is rude.

Thanks! I really was expecting to have some traffic when exiting the parks (especially the one day we decided to tram to the car, even though we didn't in the am the kids wanted to at close, when the recording said something about the one park exit) but was soo pleasantly surprised night after night when we drove right out. We got to the parks in time for rope drop and stayed until close so I had to prepare my mind after a long, hot, day to have patience getting out of there, I would prepare for the worst. I could not have been more wrong (nor been happier about being wrong)!!
