To rent a car or not rent a car...that is the question

We will be staying at POR and will be using the magic your way express but wondering if it would be worth it to rent a car at disney or dtd once we get there for the convenience of not waiting for buses with the kids...if so where would be the best location to rent..thanks, Ilisa

We always rent a car while staying at the POR. But we love just driving to Epcot for dinner and for our last day we do not have to worry about transportation back to the airport. Also, after we have left the park we can hit the grocery store for snacks and what not. Is it needed....NO, but it is the only luxury we have agreed not to cut.

We always rent a car while at DW. We like the convenience of having our own transportation to DTD and all the parks, except Magic Kingdom. If you are planning on renting a car, I think I'd skip the Magic Express and just get a car at the airport. If you'd rather wait, there are National lovcations at Car Care Center, Dolphin and Buena Vista Palace according to the National website. If you plan far enough in advance you can get a really good deal. We are paying $207 for a midsize SUV from National August 7 - 18 (11 days) all tax and extra charges included. When I started getting prices, the price was around $350, but I just kept checking back and watched the price come down...Have a fun trip!!!

We rent a car so we can do stuff like Mini Golf without catching buses to here and there. Also we go to Universal 2 days, so it's overall worth it when split between 4 adults.

We rent a car, the cost is not much more than a towncar service. Of course ME is free! The car is used for going to other resorts, we have no problem with the buses, and the bus is the best way to go to MK. We also stop on the way to DW for groceries.

Keep checking the websites, and I also get email updates form several companies. We usually get a compact or midsized, no need for anything larger.

WOW this is just the post for me! We will also be staying at POR (not 'til 08/07) and I am wondering whether we should rent a car. Currently we don't plan on visiting other resorts much, as this will be our 1st trip and all the restaurants the kids want to try are at a park, except for Chef Mickey's and 1900 Park Fare. Does anyone think we should get a car? Are the busses always crowded at POR considering they stop at POFQ 1st?
