To Quebec Residents: National/Alamo/Enterprise will not rent you a car in FL without

I just received this response from National Car Rental after I inquired about needing an International Driving Permit. I specifically stated that I am Canadian. Today is Saturday Feb 16th, 2 days after we have been told that the law will not be enforced.

"If your drivers license is not in English, and you do not have an International Drivers Permit, you will not be able to pick up the vehicle. This is the policy for Enterprise, National, and Alamo; we cannot speak for other agencies. If you have further questions or concerns please feel free to contact us or Customer Care at 1-800-468-3334".

I am not paying an extra 40$ (25 + 15 for passport photos) to have the privilege of renting a car in Florida.

Thank you for contacting the Budget E-mail Customer Service team.

Our information shows that this new law is currently under review.

Canadians are now required by law to have an international driving
permit in addition to their regular license when driving in Florida.

Until the law is clarified, Canadian drivers found without the permit
would technically be considered driving without a valid license.
The counter will still provide the rental. But, a customer driving with
out the permit is not encouraged. If pulled over, the consequence will
be at at the discretion of the officer.

Canadians can pick up an IDP at a local CAA office for $25, plus the
cost of passport photos. It's valid for one year.
