I have never ridden kali River Rapids. The first time I went to AK, I was pregnant and couldn't ride. The second time I went, I would have had to ride by myself because Dh would have had to stay with our DS. This time, I'll have the chance to ride because my mom is going along. I have seen people pot about taking ponchos to wear on the ride and I'm curious what most people do! Please vote in the poll and discuss your answer -- thanks!

I voted "sometimes" because I rode once without (and got lucky - stayed dry) but was going to wear one this past trip but DS changed his mind and we didn't ride. Anyway ... it's a tough one ... I've seen people get soaked and I've stayed dry. Of course ... me being a guy ... there's the whole machismo thing! :) I think it's alot like gambling ... how lucky do you feel? ;)

Have fun!

If I bring a change of clothes just for going on the ride I don't bother with a poncho but when I don't plan to change all my clothes than I take a poncho. Usually I bring a swimsuit, light shorts, and flip flops and put them on before I ride and then change back into my other clothes after riding. DH holds the backpack as he is not willing to ride it himself.

No. We never wear poncho's during this ride. It is so much fun getting wet as the supposingly wet-ride. We go prepare wearing fast-drying clothings. Nothing with heavy cotton. We did scared a few people on line after seeing us getting soaked head to toes. You will totally spoil the intention of this "wet" ride fun. :thumbsup2

The whole purpose of this ride is to get soaked. The entire ride is about 2 minutes long. (IMO, It is never worth waiting in a long line for this!)

Only some of the folks on each float get soaked. It usually ends up being me. I have worn a poncho on cooler days, and on hot sunny days I appreciate getting wet. One suggestion is that I'd at least bring a plastic bag for my belongings (my purse) because the center area where you put your stuff usually has water in it. I'm the type who could care less about my hair/face/body getting wet, but my handbag I care about!

Hey Skroops, we have noticed that you went HK Disneyland last year. What do you think of it? ;) We were in HK and China for 3 weeks last July. HKDL wasn't opened yet, so we didn't get to go there. We heard that we wouldn't miss it for the world. Well, any thoughts?

Nope - Never..........but I have not ridden it so I wouldn't get wet.

if it is a really warm day then I don't mind getting wet, but if it is cool or we are getting close to leaving the park for a different park or lunch then poncho ON! I am not a big fan of wet clothing....
Last time I wore a poncho and I got the full wave over me, even the poncho did not keep my shorts dry- I looked like I wet myself-not a pretty sight... :rotfl2:

do they provide ponchos there?

No, but I always have some dollar store disposable ponchos in my bag in case of freak Florida thunderstorms. I think it is Tour Guide Mike who gave me the poncho idea.

Well, considering its a wet ride, I would want to get wet. As long as my bag, camera, shoes, etc. stay dry I will be happy. Its part of the fun and during the warmer months you will dry off fairly quickly.

Normally, I wouldn't (unless it were cool/cold). This trip, I'm spending just the morning at AK, then have to head back to CSR to get freshened up/changed to work at a convention at CSR in the afternoon. If I take my chances and get absolutely soaked, it will take me a lot longer to get myself ready to work. I'd rather wear a poncho, just in case, then to have to leave even earlier to get ready for the expo.

They provide a large area in the middle of the "boat" to stow anything you don't want to get wet with a plastic cover and velcro so your stuff will be safe from the wetness!!

I would never wear a poncho on the ride - just go prepared to get a little wet or possibly soaked depending on where you sit and the luck of the splash and enjoy the ride!!!

Do you mind walking around the park soaked all the way through to the skin (including underwear)? If that doesn't bother you, skip the poncho (but I would seriously think about your shoes - if you are wearing socks at least take them off so you have dry socks to put on later.) I am sure it is more fun just letting yourself get soaked. If you HATE walking around in soaking, dripping clothing, wear a poncho. My family all wears ponchos - we got soaked once and found that we REALLY don't like it and a couple of us even developed chafing/rashes from our wet clothes...

I have never been to AK, but on a smiliar ride at King's Island in Ohio I got soaked and I hated it. My son and hubby thought it was great, I was miserable waiting for everything to dry out. I like the idea of getting a little wet but not soaked. I know it is a "wet ride" but I like to be comfortable after as well. I'll be there with a poncho on and I don't care what looks I get! :sunny:

Depends on the weather at the park. If I'm at AK on a rainy day (best time to go in my opinion) and the poncho is already on, no point in taking it off. If it's just a drizzle, hey I'm damp already.

I park light for the parks, if I'm freezing after riding Kali, it's just an excuse to go buy a Disney sweatshirt. ;)

I always wear a poncho to cover my clothes, I don't put the hood on, so I still get wet, but not drenched.

Walking around in sopping wet clothing on a hot day is not my idea of fun. Like a previous poster said, it can also cause chafing and rashes.
