To photobomb, or not to photobomb. That is the question!

To photobomb, or not to photobomb?

  • Age 18-29: Sure Photobombing can be fun!

  • Age 18-29: No way! That's so rude!

  • Age 30-45: Fun times! I don't have a problem with it.

  • Age 30-45: Grow up!

  • Age 45-65: Hey if its in good taste why not?

  • Age 45-65: Don't mess with my memories!

  • Over 65: Life is too short! Bombs away!

  • Over 65: How cruel!

I think it childish. If you are over the age of 12 and you are photobombing then you really need to grow up.
If you think that people will think its funny because you creatively ruined their photo then I question your intelligence. They don't care about you or your creativity, they care about the people they are taking photos of.
Its just selfish and rude.

Wow! When I first read the OP's question I never imagined such negative responses! Isn't that the beauty of digital cameras? ;)

oh wow I didn't expect such a spirited discussion to this topic. Don't worry I won't take offense to name calling. I've got thick skin..I can take it. Everyone has a right to their own opinion!

As much as I dislike the tour groups, I would never intentionally ruin someone's photo. I have had people photobomb my photos and I don't appreciate it at all. I don't want to show those photos to friends or family. I don't want to put them in the scrapbook or pull them out to remember my trips. I really don't need a random stranger making a stupid face blocking my view of the castle. Just because you think you are being creative doesn't give you the right to do something that can ruin someone's picture. Leave the creativity to the cast members and characters who are there to supply the magic. I really don't understand why people can't just respect each other enough to not do something so childish.

My opinion is that yours is a poor one.

This is sort of a mean response. The OP did say they enjoy PB.

How is this a mean response ? I didn't point to anyone personally or call someone a name I said a jerk would do this to someone else Perhaps I should have said a stupid inconsiderate selfish thing to do...all the same No meaner than the end result

Our next trip will be 4 days long with my marine before he leaves for two years. I do t want some idiot jumping into our pictures. The person who thinks they are bringing something positive with their incredible imagination is only being hideous self centered and rude. As far as digital or not it makes no difference. Stay the crap out of my sons pictures and I will leave yours alone. Because I, smart enough to know you don't want me or my incredibly imaginative creative self in your pictures.

to me, anyway! But then again, those people were going to be in the photo no matter what...the CM's are adorable, and I wouldn't expect the dude on the carousel to throw himself off the horse. Me and my hubs would get a kick out of having someone PB us, but it's probably not something I would do to strangers...

You are openly suggesting that you plan on intentionally ruining other people's vacation photos.

So this begs the question.....what did you expect other posters to say? "That sounds awesome"? :confused3

I am rather sad for you, to be honest. :sad2:

Good point. That's kinda how I see it too. I wouldn't go out of my way to be in someone's picture. But if I was going to be anyway, I might have fun with it.

Then again, last year at Universal, some guy flipped the bird behind my mother-in-law, and when we got home and saw the pic, I laughed for days! heheh

Yeah, not a fan of anyone I don't know photobombing my pictures on purpose. It's one thing if you're Benedict Cumberbatch...

...but if you're not, please don't do it to me.

If someone has put a lot of effort, time (and money) into having a memorable vacation, why would they want their memories/photos tarnished by some yahoo making a goofy face or whatever?

::yes::

Furthermore, the celebs that Benedict Cumberbatch photobombed in this pic likely knows him. It's one thing if someone I know photobombs my photo but a whole 'nother thing if some stranger or someone that I have absolutely no interaction or rapport with does it.

Photos are often times very personal to people. Those are the memories that people have of various important occasions...could be baby's first trip, or grandma's last. If they're looking back at those pics one day, remembering someone who is no longer with them, and you're ruining their memory with a photobomb, then I'm sorry, that's not always going to be funny.

I guess I don't see an issue with it if it's done in a creative way. I'd probably get a good chuckle out of it, but that's just me. :confused3

Unless you're referring to jumping into someone's professional photo taken by a CM? That I'd be a little more hesitant about and wouldn't advise doing.

Right. I am not talking about jumping in front of a picture or getting in the way of a photo taken by a CM. This is about a random group taking a random photo and you are in the background and you just smile and wave. Something goofy like that.

I would be totally okay with those. However, I wouldn't consider those examples to be PBs since they were naturally in the picture and were pretty much just making the picture more fun.

I had a great picture of my wedding party that some young man felt the need to ruin by PBing. He had his hand in deep in the rear end of his shorts facing the camera. It was my only more casual picture of the entire wedding party. It was so hard to get all of them in one shot. Very disappointing.

and slightly off topic, since I know it wasn't intentional, but to me, "in the way guy" is one of the funniest things EVER.

A simple smile and wave in the background would not bother me as long as they weren't blocking a person in the intended photo.

If we are walking by someone taking a picture, DH will turn and cheese at the camera. But we don't go out of our way to jump into someone's photo or stop and stand by them. It's only if he's going to be in the photo anyways. I've been PB before and always find it amusing. The CMs are particularly good at it. :)

Here is the DIS guideline 5

While we'd like to think that a Disney fan site is always lighthearted, there are times when there are disagreements. Let's face it, there are certain topics that can transform any of us into a raging "Donald Duck." When you sense this is happening, we ask that you step away from the discussion before it escalates into a fight. Just like Mom always said about fighting, we don't care who started the argument and we don't want it on the DIS. (Okay, she didn't say the part about the DIS, but you know what we mean.) No attacking others and no sarcasm please. Either will result in an infraction
