To double stroller or Not to double stroller?

So we are planning to drive to WDW September 2015. My DD will be 6 and my DS will be 3. He's going to want to run around, but at the same time I know he'll get tuckered out and want to ride in the stroller a bit. He's just that kind of kid.

I'm worried that my daughter might get tuckered out and want to sit in the stroller too. I suppose I could rent a single and let them trade off, but I also thought about if it rains, then they could both climb into a double with a rain cover to keep them from getting wet OR she could just pancho it up like her parents.

I just want to hear everyone's thoughts.

We are also debating on whether to bring our own stroller, which is kind of falling to pieces at this moment and a little uncomfortable for our son or just rent one while we're in Disney from Apple or Kingdom strollers. Just whichever is cheapest and offers the best deal for us....

What are your thoughts? Has anyone ever traveled with a 3 and 6 year old? What did you do?

Just visited 2 weeks ago with 6 year old & almost 3 year old. This was our 3rd trip using our sit n stand it works out great. Plenty of storage for diaper bag, gifts etc. Our 6 year old did use it a lot especially at night, plenty of times would fall asleep so we could walk the park and enjoy shops etc.

I'm going with double stroller for my kids again this year, as I know my Hayley (3) and Tyler (7) will get pooped out as they did last year. That double stroller helped me a great deal, as it helps us to move to and fro easily. The times we go is week of Thanksgiving and little ones can easily get caught up in crowds. Stroller helps us move faster and helps us keep control. Most of all, when their little feet get tired they have a place to rest while "we keep it moving" on to the next ride or show. No big deal for me. I also let them roam and get out, heck they're only in it 50% of the time and that's when we're moving on to the next thing and get through the crowds. My husband has mastered manuevering that "big rig"..lol... But it depends on your kids, as you know their stamina better than anyone I'm sure....Have a magical trip :)

Thanks for the input. I think we'll definitely rent one of double city minis then. To rent is cheaper than buying at this point, and it's very lightweight compared to some others that I've used.

I think having the extra seat will be a nice break for my daughter who gets tired of walking around our large malls in Texas and wants to ride in her bubba's stroller.

We are going next week with a 3 year old and a six year old and I reserved the city mini yesterday.

Worst that can happen is that six year old DD doesn't use it a lot, but we fall into the better safe than sorry camp.

Agreed, I figure if all else fails I can put the kid's backpack, snacks and whatever else in the extra seat :)

My kids were a lot younger (1 & 4) so a double was a no brainer but wanted to comment that when it rained they stayed dry while I still got wet with a poncho. The rain cover kept them well covered while the wind kept blowing my poncho and my shoes got soaked. So that's another advantage of a stroller. :)

The last 2 years we have brought 1 "big" stroller (standard graco that lays down) and then 1 umbrella stroller. It has worked out great who ever is napping gets the big stroller. My 4 year old almost never wanted to walk so it saved dh's back having a stroller for both kids.

We're bringing 2 single strollers instead of 1 double because we figure it will give us more flexibility - make it easier for us to split up, if the younger one needs to go back to the hotel earlier, etc.

We are renting a double next summer for DD7 & DS2.5 at the time of the trip. We did it when DD was 5 and DS was 8 months and it was great. If we split up, DD just jad to walk during that time. DD & I just did a trip wothout a stroller so I know we don't need it for her, but it is extra storage and having ot for her in the rain is great.

no advice but just wanted to thank you for this post. We are going next summer and will have a 6 and 3 year old as well. I have been scanning these boards looking for this exact advice! :yay:

We plan to bring 2 single strollers, but seriously debated our double stroller instead!

We will definitely bring our own strollers. I heard that the ones you rent through Disney are hard plastic and not very comfortable.

We went this past August with a 6 and 3 year old. We do a lot of trip and my son, the 6 year old, generally walks every where. However Disney is a lot of walking. We rented a City Mini Double from Magic Strollers and it was a great move. They delivered to our resort and picked it up when we left. My son and daughter both rode in the stroller a lot. My son doesn't usually take a nap but on a Disney trip he does. And he prefers to ride in a stroller. And he's an athletic kid who prefers to be off and running. Plus it was easier to keep us all together in crowds.

We leave Thursday for our trip with a 5 1/2 and 3 (almost 4) year old. We are bringing our own BOB double because my DS1 is tall and it's the only one he was comfortable in. I would def recommend renting one for all the reasons already stated, plus for me, it helps us get from point A to point B in a quick and orderly fashion without having to look for kids every 30 seconds. :goodvibes:thumbsup2

We've rented doubles from magic strollers and kingdom strollers....with your kids ages, I would definitely rent a double. The 3 year old will definitely need it and at times your 6 year old will too. Rather be safe than sorry, especially when they both want to sit at the same time. Have fun!

We've always done doubles, even though the oldest doesn't need one. On our last week-long trip (she'd just turned 7) the only time she sat in it was when we were trying to get around in huge masses of crowds...after parades/fireworks, etc. That made it worth it alone, IMO. It's so scary in those big crowds and my husband and I have gotten separated from each other several times. I can't imagine how panicky I'd feel losing a 6 year old in that.
