To Disney or Not to Disney?

Some of the people interviewed seem a bit out there.

And I did get a chuckle over the whole if your DD likes princesses it will limit them idea. My DD loved Princesses when she was little and it hasn't caused her to expect to be rescued by a prince or feel limited in her choices.

Back in the day it was Barbie who Limited my choices. :lmao:

Hey I would like everyone to know that my Barbie went to college and had a fulfuilling career before she even discussed marriage with Ken. :thumbsup2

I want to say to these people. Seriously folks it's just movies and a theme park. Don't take it so seriously. They must not drink sodas, go to the movies or watch TV because that consumerism too.

Yep, I really bought into the whole my-prince-will-save-me propaganda as I worked my way through grad school.

When I was in grad school, I took a course in turn of the (20th) century American history. One portion of the course focused on entertainment and the effect of Coney Island on American Culture and the development of theme parks. There were 2 obnoxious guys that just railed against theme parks and their canned entertainment and how places like Disney World prevented people from having "real" experiences and that Disney in general told people how to think.

Finally I asked these two, "Have you ever been to Disney World?"

"Well, no, I would never go to a place like that!!!!"

I said, "Well I have and I like it. I like it a lot. It is fun, pure fun. I went last Christmas with my sister's family and we had a great time making memories with her kids. And this was something different for us because we usually camp at Big Bend National Park at Christmas. You should not be spouting off opinions on topics with which you really have no experience. If you could go and give it a real, unbiased look, which I don't think you could, you might find out something new."

Then everyone else in the classroom started to pipe up about the wonderful memories they had at Disney, too.

I do however, respect those who feel that morally they cannot justify the expense of a Disney vacation when there are people starving in the world. I don't agree, but I can respect that point of view.

But Patel won't visit Walt Disney World.

"I grew up going to Disneyland, and that's the original park," she said. "I'm a Disney conservationist. Walt Disney World looks so big, and it's not him (Walt Disney). I think you lose the intimate magic that happens at Disneyland. It's way more corporate. Disneyland feels like being at home."

Um, if I'm not correct, didn't Walt himself go and buy the property in Florida (of course I know it was disguised)????:confused3 Didn't he say that he wanted a bigger place and expand it and have it be all these things in one?? I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he's the one who came up with the idea of building down in Florida because I can't imagine his name being on something that HUGE and have nothing to do with him!
