To Camp or Not to Camp...

That is the question.
The story behind the question is I am arriving at about 11:45 PM and didn't want to pay extra to stay at the All Stars for just a bed for one night. The problem is I have to sleep somewhere. While the airport would work with the new security I don't want to try. My friend and I will be splitting the cost and are currently looking at staying either at a DTD hotel for about $77 (about $38 each) or maybe camping a night for about $34 (about $17 each) Price is a bit of a concern as many bills are and will be coming due. (Like Tuition and a post disney Post Washington DC the week before Credit card Bill) I was wondering which do you all reccomend? I have camped before in an RV but since we are flying it would be the bare minimum tent this time and my friend has never camped in WDW before. We are also thinking of Pricelining a hotel but have some concerns about transportation costing so much we really didn't save anything where as if we Camped of stayed in DTD we could catch Disney Transportation.

When are you going? I just got AS-Sports for $49.00 for night after Thanksgiving with annual pass rate. The new code rate wasn't much more.

Well, as I have said in a previous post, CAMP is a 4 letter word in my vocabulary That being said, I would opt for a Downtown Disney resort.. the next best thing to being on property... and you have all of the amenities. Guess I am a Pampered Princess, afterall!--lol

We love to camp at Fort Wilderness, but I voted for Priceline for a number of reasons.

First, you say you get into Orlando at about 11:45. After the drive to WDW and check-in do you really want to spend more time putting up a tent? Then you'll have to take it down the very next day. Also, you'll have to schlep the tent from home. IMO that's a lot of wasted time and effort for one night of camping.

Second, we've used Priceline for WDW-area stays three times. All three times we've gotten rooms for approximately $35 per night. Once we were at the Sheraton Safari which is right outside of the DTD area, once we got the Orlando Hyatt which is just outside the WDW gates on 192 and once we got the Hotel Royal Plaza which is inside the DTD complex. All three stays were very nice and we liked all three hotels. We are diehard on-site visitors but needed one night here and there at the beginning or end of a trip and Priceline worked great. We've used them many, many times for non-WDW stays and have only had good experiences.

When are you going? The DTD Marriott is running a 100 years of magic special for $20 a night. I believe this is running until sept. I just added a day here before our AS ressies start in August. The rep told me to tell everyone so I got the feeling that there are a few rooms available. You have to call and ask about this rate. I am going to be needing the hotel room the night of August 15th. I called the Mariott and the Courtyard (They're running the magic special too) and both said no room s were avaliable at that rate but maybe I'l try calling again.

I called the courtyard by Mariott (By the way I meant the Double Tree in my last post) and while they did not have a room avaliable at the rate of $20.02 anymore for my dates, they were offering for people still calling a room rate at $59. Which is the cheapest i have seen for DTD. Just tought I would let you all know since you were kind enough to help me.

I have used priceline very successfully for late arrivals. You might want to go with 3 stars to assure 24 hour shuttle. I learned how to bid on www.biddingfortravel.com. We get in a little earlier and I got the La Quinta Orlando Airport West for $23 and $25 on two different trips. They also have a breakfast! Check it out.

Priceline!

You can book a room near the airport or one near WDW for under $30 per night. I would recommend near the airport so you can take the limo/shuttle right to the All Stars the next day. If you stay in a DD hotel you will have to pay for a cab to get your stuff to the All Stars.
