To bring or not to bring videocamera-that is the ?

We brought ours for our daughter's first trip and it really worked out. Watching her reaction is truly priceless. When we got home I transferred the video to a DVD and our daughter watched it everyday for like months after the trip. She is now watching it again for build up to this upcoming trip. We will definitely be bringing it again.

And like MissionMouse said, if you bring it you don't have to use it, but if you don't bring it, then you don't even get that choice.

Just my 2 cents

Good luck with your choice and have a magical trip.

If you do take a video camera with you, where do you put it when you go on rides? (such as an upside down ride like Rockin Roller Coaster?)

Just out of curiousity, does anyone know how much it costs to rent a video camera at Disney?

Thanks,
Tink

I bought my camcorder specifically for our Disney trip with the kids. Yes, sometimes it is a hassle when it rains or taking care of it in the wet rides.
But those videos are a treasure.
As the kids were small 3 and 5, they are able to remember a lot of details that without the video they had forgotten by now.
The biggest diference of video vs pictures, is that the video can catch the park's athmosphere (laughs, music, the crowd sound). When I see our photo albums, it is not the same thing.
Bring extra batteries!

I would bring both. If you're bringing your stroller, it shouldn't be a hassel to put it in the basket on the bottom. We have used our video camera less and less each trip, but we still use it. I especially love filming the kid as they watch the parades or Wishes. Just capturing those moments forever is precious!

Alysa,
That has to be one of the cutest clips I have ever seen. If that wasn't an agrument for bringing the video camera, I don't know what is.

We just got back 2 weeks ago & I debated the same thing. We flew & had about 7 carry ons for 2 adults & 3 kids. Mine are 10, 4 & 2 and we don't use our camcorder much at home.

I took it, didn't use the first 2 days but brought it w/us after that & loved it! We had a double stroller so I hung the bag off it & also had our 2 cameras. It wasn't much work to use & have some neat additional memories. Our 2 yo LOVED the trip & I think will really enjoy the video once I get our VCR fixed.

We'll probably bring ours ... it's pretty small and it also takes still pics (though not great ones)

I am laughing out loud at a memory that has surfaced thanks to this thread -- my dad insisting on bringing our video camera on our WDW trip when I was about 12. It was HUGE (this was in the 80's) and had a hard suitcase-type carrier. NObody wanted to carry it, and it was such a pain to get it out that we didn't really take much video, either.

One thing I will probably do is to get an inexpensive digi camera for the kids to use (on a strap to keep around a neck!) I love to scrapbook too, and I LOVE to see the photos from a kid's point of view.
