To ATL and back:Disney Kids survive Snowpocalypse '11~4 month update

I totally forgot to mention that while in AK we were, of course, doing some pin trading and came across a high up CM…not quite sure what his job was but he was one of the ones in a shirt and tie instead of a costume. He was SO much fun and made us answer trivia questions in order to trade with us. We had a blast and we were all pretty darn good at it too! I LOVE trivia, especially Disney Trivia and had a blast! We came back to him later in the day too. It was a really awesome experience. He kinda made our day!
One of the questions he asked us was “Name 3 Disney Movie Heroines from America” They are all the title roles of the movies. That’s the only question I remember really well. Andrew and I have used it in several conversations trying to stump people. Feel free to guess…I’ll post the answer in my next post!

On to a new day!

Day 5: Magic Kingdom

This morning I was so excited. First of all, I was gonna get to spend all day in the Magic Kingdom and second I was going to get to see the Rope Drop show. On our last trip we made MK our first arrival and departure days park so I had never gotten to spend the whole day there. And on our departure day it took us too long to pack up and get out so we missed the opening by 20-30 minutes. So this trip, I was going to get to see it!!

We were all MUCH more rested after having gone to bed at a decent time the night before. It was still hard to get everyone out of bed, but you can tell that we look much more awake!

I LOVED the opening show. I may have cried at some point…. I didn’t realize that the song for the opening was the “Welcome Song” from the 4 parks 1 world CD (Don’t ask me why I didn’t put those two together…) But I LOVE that song…half the time I get all choked up in the car while listening to it. Then when that music started and totally took me by surprise and I was right there, it was just too much. I cried. Thankfully I had my sunglasses on and no one could tell.

As soon as the gates opened we headed in. I loved how some of the characters just walked with the crowd to their meet and greet spots.
DSC02422.jpg

You can KINDA see Aladdin and Jasmine walking along the sidewalk.

Once inside we headed to Space Moutain. This was the other ride on my “must ride with my brothers or I’ll never ride it” list. So off we went while Andrew waited. I don’t know what he did while we rode. Hmm…not in my notes. I should have had him go for a PP FP but apparently I didn’t. AnywayIt was an ok ride. It was a little jerky for my taste but I’m glad I went on it. Wasn’t anywhere NEAR as traumatic as ToT. Like, I’d ride it again if I was with someone who wanted to.

This is the only pic I got so…that’s what you get! :thumbsup2
DSC02423.jpg

Next up was Buzz Lightyear. This is one of Andrew’s favorite rides.
I tried to take a picture of my score but missed the memo about having to turn off the flash to get it to show up….whoops!
DSC02424.jpg

Let’s just pretend that I totally maxed out the score! Ok?....no?...ok never mind. I’m not any good at this ride anyway. Stupid car turns every time I figure out the gun and then I have to start all over. Not my favorite ride.

After those two rides we headed to Fantasyland. We stopped by Rapunzel’s M&G cause she was on our MUST MEET list. It was 9:45a and the line was already waiting for the 12:15p playtime. No way we were waiting for that so we headed on. But not without sneaking a couple of pics just in case we didn’t ever get back to meet her.
DSC02425.jpg

DSC02426.jpg

Then we continued on to Fantasyland. As we past the Teacups we saw Alice was out so we decided to drop in for tea.
DSC02427.jpg

We continued on to Pooh but not without stopping to see the Stepmother and Stepsisters. Oh boy where these guys good!!
As we walked up the Stepmother asked me if I all these boys belonged to me. I told her that only DH was mine but the others were eligible. Instantly the girls each latched on to a boy.
DSC02429.jpg

Anastacia tried to run off with Elliott. Then we posed for a photo.

DSC02428.jpg

Avery said that the stepmother was really holding on to him. I think he was a little freaked out. But all in all it was a REALLY fun M&G. We talked about it for the rest of the trip.

Finally we made it to Pooh. The new que was open and it was really cool. We didn’t play with any of the garden toys (now I wish we had…but at the time I hadn’t really read much about it and it seemed like it was for the kids and we didn’t want to be THOSE teenages) But we did play with the honey wall and that was cool. Our wait was pretty short, maybe 5 minutes, and then we were off on our ride. Afterward all the boys decided it was stupid and they didn’t want to ride that again. It was so bizarre that they felt so strongly about it. They hadn’t said that about any other rides. We apparently had an Anti-Pooh theme going on this trip…it comes up tomorrow too!

Next we rode Snow White and then met up with Mary Poppins. Last trip I refused to meet her cause she didn’t look ANYTHING like Julie Andrews. This time I relented but I still don’t believe that she’s Mary Poppins!!
DSC02430.jpg

DSC02431.jpg

Elliott refused to get in this picture….he was character-ed out.

Then on we went to Haunted Mansion. The boys wanted to do BTMR and since we were by it I told them to ride it and meet us at Jungle Cruise afterward. They met up with us JC, we grabbed some FPs and headed to Pirates. Afterward we hit the Tiki Room. Elliott and I grew up listening to a Disney Classics tape (and then CD) that we LOVED. One of the songs on the CD was the old school Tiki Room song and it was one of Elliott’s favorites. So this was really attraction #1 on his must see list. He really enjoyed it, the rest of us thought it was SUPER bizarre! I’d like to see it now that it’s revamped but it was just strange!

Our fast pass time for JC was up when we got out of the show so we headed off for our Cruise. LOVE LOVE LOVE that ride! Avery really enjoyed it. I think it was one of his favorites. We still will break into Jungle Cruise jokes in the middle of dinner sometimes. My mom totally doesn’t get them and then we have to explain the whole set up etc. I swear she probably thinks that she has practically ridden the ride by now just from hearing us talk about it.

After our cruise we decided it was food time. I wanted to try Columbia Harbor House since it’s Andy-roo and Blakers’ favorite spot. We headed over there but Elliott and Andrew decided that nothing on the menu was calling their names and went to Cosmic Rays instead.
The food was pretty good. I don’t remember what Oliver got, I got the Salad with chicken. Avery ate my chicken, I ate the salad. It worked out pretty well. (We were on the free QSDP but were there almost our whole arrival day and departure day so we had a plan all laid out of how many meals we had to split in order to have enough meals for all the days. Avery and I did really well with it cause we’re both small eaters. Elliott and Oliver ended up using snacks to make meals cause they ran out on our last full day. We made sure they didn’t starve though. We aren’t THAT mean!)

At lunch Oliver realized that he didn’t have his sunglasses…his brand new, bought them at Pop on our first day, used his whole souvenir budget for them, Disney Sunglasses.
These sunglasses (the red ones):
DSC02412.jpg

He remembered putting them in the pouch on BTMR but didn’t remember having them at any point after that. So we finished eating, called Andrew and Elliott, told them what happened and headed to BTMR to see if we could find his glasses. Now…I was SURE that after turning in that gift card, those glasses would be at the CM’s counter at the ride. There wasn’t a doubt in my mind! I sent Oliver in the exit to go ask the CM if they had found his sunglasses. While we waited I took a pic of Avery by BTMR since I hadn’t earlier when they actually rode.
IMG_0275.jpg

On the way over to the ride I also took this picture for jc040404
DSC02433.jpg

(haha! MK was really reminding me of you guys this day!)

Finally Oliver came out….

With NO sunglasses!! They were gone!! I really and truly couldn’t believe it! I was SO sure they would be there. I told Oliver that we would check at guest services when we left the park and maybe they would be there.

So we headed to PP. Once there we didn’t see Elliott and Andrew but the FP return line was SUPER long! We decided to just go to Mickey’s Philharmagic. We called Andrew to tell him and he said that they had had the same idea and were already in the waiting area for MP. We ran in and JUST missed the doors closing.

So Oliver, Avery and I waited and then watched it ourselves. After MP we rode PP finally.

By this time it was 3pm and time for the parade. We hadn’t gotten to watch much of the parade on our first day and I really wanted to watch it. Elliott really did NOT want to watch it, he wanted to go to Epcot to pin trade!! He had been pestering us to go over to EP all day! But I wanted to stay at MK! We were starting to do that sibling bickering thing again. It was time for a break from each other!

Oliver really wanted to see Hall of Presidents. I really like Hall of Presidents but I really wanted to watch the parade. So Elliott and Oliver decided to go do HoP while Avery, Andrew and I climbed into the sleigh at the Christmas Shop to watch the parade.

It was a nice break and I vented a bit to Andrew about Elliott, he calmed me down, suggested watching the parade and then giving Elliott some time in Epcot. He figured that once Elliott got to do what he wanted that he would relax and go with the flow again.

The whole pin trading at Epcot thing was that they had found out 2 days before that there were a bunch of traders planning on being at Epcot today with their pin binders and Elliott and Andrew both wanted to check it out. Now that’s totally fine with me, and I was willing to go over to EP…but LATER!! After I got my fill of MK!!!

Anyway, we really enjoyed the parade. I think Avery took about half of these photos. He’s actually really talented at composing good shots. He doesn’t know a whole lot of technical stuff about cameras but he’s got some raw talent.

(This is my favorite part about this parade spot. You have a perfect shot of each float with the castle in the background!)

(Cont. next post)

IMG_0290.jpg

And then just a nice castle photo…cause you can never have too many of those!
IMG_0292.jpg

The boys got out of HoP about the same time as the parade ended. Andrew told them the new plan, which was: Let April wander slowly out of the park, then we were going to monorail to EP and do some pin trading and see where we went from there…

This gave me some more time to savor my favorite park and then Elliott got to do what he wanted too. Everyone was game for the new plan and we started to make our way down Main Street.

Oliver had really wanted to recreate a photo that I had made in a college photo class. At the time we had never been to WDW and I made a collage from a castle photo found online, a photo we had taken at a pumpkin patch and the sheet music to When You Wish upon a Star.
See:

Here’s our recreation…we were missing Andrew but still fun:
IMG_0293.jpg

I think I actually like my fake photo better! Whatever!

We saw a leaf vacuum cleaner as we walked out
DSC02454.jpg

Kinda cool!

I did a little window shopping while walking out and by window shopping I mean I made the boys walk thru all the stores

Then Oliver and I stopped in Guest Services to check on his sunglasses. We sent Elliott, Avery and Andrew ahead of us on the monorail.

No luck in guest services but they gave us a number to call the next day for the central lost and found location. We ended up running into Avery, Elliott, and Andrew at the TTC and rode the second monorail together.

Up next: Pins, Puck, and more Pins

I think I like your fake photo more, too! Great job!

Okay, so what's the answer?? I'm guessing Pocahontas.. Maybe Tiana? You're making me crazy!! :confused3

I LOVE the bird pic! I couldn't stop laughing when I saw you'd taken that one!! :lmao: That was great! :lmao:

Sounds like a great day! Minus those sunglasses, of course. I hope they're found before you leave. Loved the visit with the step sisters & I'm soo with you on Mary Poppins. I don't think any of them really look like her! Curious about this dislike for Pooh though.. :sad1: Can't wait to see what happens next! (And know the answer to that question!!)

Great update!

So I'm going to answer your trivia.

Pocahontas - Virginia
Tiana - New Orleans
Lilo - Hawaii

My teacher totally didn't believe me when I told him that that photo was taken at a pumpkin patch. He thought I had just taken a pic at Disney and added the music over it. He was pretty impressed once I told him.

IheartDDuck got the answer right! It took all 5 of us a really long time to come up with all the characters. Lilo threw us off.

We went relatively soon after you posted about the white bird drama, so then when I saw one I just HAD to take the picture!

Oh yes, Pooh...I actually recently asked Andrew if he wanted to see the Pooh movie and he practically yelled "NO!" I was like "whoa! How do you really feel??" :rotfl: The Pooh story happens our next day...so you won't have to wait too long.

Great update!

Pocahontas - Virginia

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: You win!! Nice work!

Oh my gosh! I can't believe it! I saw a post on here about cheap flights on Delta and I jumped over to check it out since we're still looking for flights for our Jan trip (Southwest was more than I was willing to pay so I decided to wait)

So I went over to the Delta site, clicked on "deals" at the bottom of the page and searched for our dates from that page....

I just got 2 round trip tickets from STL to MCO for $240 total!! Not EACH...TOTAL!!! That's a little less than it was going to be on Southwest for just 1 RT ticket!! I'm SOOOOOO excited!!! I couldn't believe it. I was shaking as I put in all the information. Our plane tickets are HALF PRICE!! How did that happen???? HOW?????

I had to tell someone and I can't post it on facebook cause I don't want to deal with the "but you just WENT to Disney World" comments. So I'm telling you!! I'm gonna make a post about it so other can get the deal too!!

Oh, congrats on scoring a great deal on your plane tickets! That's awesome.

So fun to see you back on the Dis and updating again. I totally understand how life just sometimes gets in the way. I have been a bit slower myself with updates this summer.

Love the tea with Alice photo and absolutely LOVE the stepmother and stepsisters picture. Now if you could have gotten one of the boys to propose to one of the sisters.....I always hear such great stories about them. Unfortunately my daughter would be freaked out by them and I don't want to mess up the fun character ops we have so far.

Thanks!! I'm super excited! And THEN!!! this morning the free dining offer included our dates so now I have CHEAP plane tickets AND free dining...my day just really couldn't get much better! My total vacation price just went down from about $2700 (including the $450 I budgeted for plane tickets) and now it's going to be about $2175!!! DANG!! Man I'm excited!!

I'm glad my subscribers were still around! I was a little worried that people would have gone thru and cleaned out their subscriptions and gotten rid of me! Thanks for sticking around! :) I'm enjoying your TR too! I don't know if I've commented (sorry if I haven't) but I'm following along!

Oh man! I wish I had read about that! I totally would have gotten one of my brother's to propose! I didn't even think of that idea. I bet it's a fun time!

LILO!! I didn't think of Hawaii at all.

Forget the "You just went to WDW" people! You should be excited!! That was a HUGE savings on your flight! :thumbsup2 Yay for the free dining, too! :yay: Love when things turn out to cost less than expected, and this was by a lot!

Wow what awesome news on your cheap flights and free dining:goodvibes

I'm still here for your TR and really enjoyed your last update

Yeah! Lilo threw us off too!

I'm super excited!! Today has just been a wonderful day (and not just cause of the Disney stuff, though that DEFINITELY got the day started off right!)

Yay!! I'm glad you're still here! I'm planning on getting in another update soon!

I only thought of Tiana lol. I hear those people all the time saying that to me. We went in Feb cause my son loves nascar and went to the Daytona 500 and now we are going in September for me so I can go to MNSSHP and F&W. They say I am acting like a child at my age. Well I don't drink (still gonna have a grey goose slushy) and I don't smoke. All I do is work, go to school, and go to Disney so I think I can go :). I just saw that they released free dining for our dates in Feb (my son is going back to the Daytona 500) but not sure if I can pay it off by the 45 day mark.

When we got to Epcot we decided to hit the Land Pavilion to see if there were any Soarin’ FPs left. They were either all gone or were for a return time later than we were planning on staying. So we passed on that and headed over to Club Cool. I wanted to pull the Beverly trick on one of the boys. Avery was the one closest to me and most gullible so I told him to “Try this one!” So he did. I think he was rather suspicious cause I had my camera out…but he went for it. :thumbsup2

IMG_0305.jpg

IMG_0306.jpg

IMG_0307.jpg

After Club Cool we headed over to the Pin Trading area. Apparently, on some days local pin trading fanatics come to Epcot and bring binders full of pins to trade. They camp out on the tables under those cool purple shade things between Inoventions East and West. There were 3-4 traders with 3-4 binders each. They were serious traders too and had some really awesome pins!
Elliott was interested in having them evaluate some of the pins he had collected and ended up trading a Jessica Rabbit one that made someone very happy. Later he found out that it had been worth a decent amount of $$ and was slightly disappointed that he had traded it.
I actually found a pin to complete one of my collections! On our last trip I had found several Princess comic book styled pins with speech bubbles with funny sayings in them. I really liked them but was missing 1 of the set. One of the women pin traders had the one I needed and was willing to trade. She didn’t like anything on my lanyard but liked something on one of the boy’s lanyards. So they traded for me. We did this pretty often. We really tried to only keep traders on our lanyards and whenever one of us saw a pin we really liked we would all be willing to trade any of our pins for that person. If we had pins we really wanted to keep, we threw them in a ziplock baggie in Andrew’s pocket. That way we could tell someone that we were willing to trade anything on our lanyards.

This is the set. I think I was missing the Snow White one.
IMG_0235.jpg

So it ended up being a fun and profitable little journey over to Epcot. We probably hung out at the pin traders for an hour or so before deciding that we were starving! We decided on Wolfgang Puck Express for dinner and started to make our way out of Epcot. Now this was the second time that we went to WPE this trip, but we loved it so much the first time that we all decided that we wanted to hit it again on one of our days.

I had the “brilliant” idea that we could get to DTD by boat from the international gateway…now…Andrew and I made this SAME mistake last trip too!!

IMG_0308.jpg

So we walk ALL the way back to the international gateway and decide to ask someone JUST to make sure that the boat will take us to DTD. Well, sure enough…It DOESN’T!!! So then we took a nice hike over to the Beach Club to catch a bus. :headache: GAH!!!
We FINALLY got on to a bus and FINALLY made it to DTD! We never plan enough time for this! We are always STARVING by the time we make it cause we don’t start moving that direction until we’re hungry and it always takes SO long to get to DTD!!!
Anyway, we made it and went straight to Wolfgang Puck Express!! LOVE THAT PLACE!!! I was totally craving it the other day and there was nothing I could do about it! :sad1:

After dinner I’ll give you 2 guesses as to what we did next?? Anyone??

If you guessed PIN TRADING!!!! You were RIGHT!! Yay!!!!!

Yep, off to the Pin Store we went. While we were at WDW they had a promotion going that if you spent $XX at the pin stores you could buy one of these “Mystery Key” pins for $1. (they came in a little black bag so you didn’t know which one you were getting)

disney-wdw-2010-pwp-mystery-key-pin-set-10-retired_270772648304.jpg

So Andrew had taken a shine to the Key collection and decided that he was going to collect them. But he didn’t want to buy a million dollars worth of stuff. So while Avery, Oliver, and I amused ourselves,

IMG_0311.jpg

Andrew and Elliott started looking for key pins.
They started off just asking people who had the key pins on their lanyards. But once they ran out of those, they started stalking people making purchases. They would stand a bit back and wait and see if the person bought a mystery pin and then they’d follow them away from the register and say something like “hey, I saw you got a mystery pin, would you be interested in trading?” Personally I thought it was rather creepy but most people weren’t freaked out and 95% of them were totally willing to trade. Andrew would have them open the pin first to make sure the person didn’t want it. And if they were willing to trade then Andrew would trade. By the end of the night (aka by the time Avery, Oliver, and I were begging to go home) Andrew had all but the Cheshire Cat pin. He was rather annoyed because earlier in the trip he had HAD the Cheshire Cat pin but decided he didn't want to collect that collection and traded it away. :headache:

We got back on a bus for another 3 million year long ride back to ASMu. (I think the bus ride to DTD is enough reason to never stay at the All Stars again!! I much prefer Pop! The ride is long but not nearly as bad as to ASMu. The only reason I would stay there again would be for the suites…which were awesome!)
Anyway, we got back to ASMu and Andrew and I decided we really wanted to keep going and hit EMH at Epcot. None of the boys wanted to go so they headed back to the room and Andrew and I jumped on the Epcot bus that was just about to leave.

I think EMH ran til midnight and we got there about 10ish. I thought it was kinda awesome that we had to show our room keys to get in etc. It made me feel kinda VIP. We checked the “Lines” ap to see what Soarin’ was looking like and the line was pretty long. So instead we decided to just shop around in the Epcot shops and see if we wanted to buy anything.
I snapped a pic of the ground near the store. I love how it lights up and twinkles! Epcot is really just beautiful after dark!
IMG_0313.jpg

At the store we found lots that we liked but I REALLY REALLY wanted the lit up castle Throw Blanket that was the if you buy $XX you can buy this for $X thing at MK. EP didn’t have the same blanket so we decided to just pick out what we liked and buy it at MK on our last day.

It was kinda nice to just hang out together. We also wandered the store by ourselves a little bit and the alone time was nice. We stopped for some pics on our way out.

DSC02459.jpg

Sad that his eyes were closed!

After a while we decided it was bedtime and headed back to the resort. Avery was still awake when we got back so he came into our room and chatted while Andrew and I sorted thru our pins. We did this every night and sorted out the “keepers” to leave in the hotel room and the “traders” to take back to the park.

All in all it was a really pleasant evening. Just kinda slow moving and enjoyable (once we fed ourselves that is!).

Next up: Why we hate Pooh!

Poor Avery! At least he seemed to smile/laugh about it! :lmao:

Love your princess pin collection. Those are really cute. Too bad that you all didn't know how much that Jessica Rabbit pin was worth though. :sad1: I don't think I could trade away anything with her on it. She has such an awesome name & all.. ;) The key pin/stalking story was too funny! If it worked, it worked! Right? :rotfl:

Sounds like a nice evening! :thumbsup2

I really love that collection too! I found the Jasmine one first and her saying reminded me of our meet and greet from our first trip and so I traded for it and then managed to find the other ones throughout our trip. I was only missing the one when we started this trip.

yes that Jessica Rabbit DOES have a nice name! ;)

Oh my gosh! That pin/stalking story is one of my favorites. They were SO intent on getting those keys! It was kinda hilarious.

I have a question for you all about dining for our next trip.

I we have the regular dining plan for our next trip. We have 5 TS credits. I currently have ADRs for:
50's prime time cafe
Le Celier
Garden Grill
Tony's Town Square
and Kona Cafe breakfast

I'm set on the first 4 but the only reason I wanted to do Kona breakfast was to try Tonga Toast. However, I have realized that I can get Tonga Toast for $6 oop at the CS location at the Poly. So now I'm considering just doing a CS breakfast for the Tonga Toast and using the TS for another lunch or dinner. But I need suggestions for 1 more lunch/dinner!! Do any of you have suggestions? I looked at Ohana but a bunch of meat is not really appealing to me. Any other suggestions?

Well....start talking about food, and I'll just have a ton of suggestions. :rotfl:

I guess it depends on if you want a restaurant in a park, or a restaurant in a hotel. If you go with hotel, I like:

Boma - AKL
Grand Floridian Cafe - Grand Flo

Parks I would say:

Teppan Edo - Japan
Biergarten - Germany
Les Chefs de France - France
Liberty Tree Tavern - Magic Kingdom

Those are just some of my favorites. I have also heard great things about Raglan Road at Downtown Disney, just haven't tried it myself.

Thanks for the suggestions IheartDDuck! You're the second person to suggest Boma so I'm gonna go check that out!

Andrew had originally wanted to try Chefs De France because he wanted to see Remy. But after looking at the menu we decided it might not be our style. Maybe we need to take another look at it. The only issue is that we already have 2 ADRs at EP!! haha! EP just has so many cool restaurants!!

I did also consider switching to Via Napoli but again...Epcot!

I thought it might help with suggestions if you had our schedule as it stands right now...

Monday -Arrival
Flight lands 12:13am (on Tuesday). I'm assuming we'll get to POP about 1:30am-ish maybe? I think I might have to nap that day!
So obviously we won't be eating dinner this day.

Fun update! My little girl fell in love with a toddler version of pin trading, so I am hoping I can get my hands on some good trading ones soon. She tends to keep the ones she likes - pretty much ones with Minnie Mouse on it and some with a princess. So your pin trading/stalking stories were so amusing!

As for ADRs, places we have enjoyed in the past:
Boma (dinner buffet)
Le Chefs de France
Kona (at dinner, although I would love to try their macadamia nut pancakes. However, I absolutely LOVE their sweet bread and macadamia nut butter at dinner)
Ohana (timed so we could also watch Wishes or the Electrical Water Parade from the windows)

I'd vote for Boma instead of Kona on your AK day. We've never tried either, though so that's not based on anything but what I've read. If you can get what you what from Kona at CS anyway, it sounds like a better way to go to me. That said, Chefs de France is the one TS place I wanted to try this last AP year and never made it to. Remy just looks so cute! But if the menu doesn't look good to you... I dunno! Good luck figuring this out. Choosing ADRs can be so overwhelming sometimes!
