My girls will be 17 on the Christmas Cruise 2005!

(how time flys)

What did your kids do to keep busy on the cruise?

sorry when you said "tween" I thought you were referring to the young teen/preteen crowd.

At 17 they can still go in the teen club and do a lot of activities there.

I thought the same thing..a tween is a 10-12 year year old....a 17 year old can go to the teen club.

My family and I will be on that cruise with DS20 and DS13. There will be so many teens on the ship that your girls will probably be busy with all their new friends to hang out with.

~my bad~

I meant too young to be treated as adults and too old to be kids...

I was reading the Christmas Cruise "who's going" thread last night and saw that you, Grumpy's Mom, Franco56, and Ginny among others will have "kids" the same age as mine.
We're even on the same deck!!!
My Mom booked 6610 last week.~

I am sure the girls will be fine.

I'll be joining you on the who's going thread---I learned so much about the cruise already, 464 days to go~

We went this past March on a 7 day Western with our DD (14) and her friend (15). We didn't do anything to keep them busy on the cruise, we pretty much just saw them for dinner each night! We booked them on the Teen Catamaran Cruise in Cozumel and we all did the Stingray and Snorkeling in Grand Cayman. They had their own cabin and we gave them the freedom to do what they wanted while on the ship. Wait, I take that back-I made everyone (including DH) play final jackpot bingo on the last day. They did go to the "Stack" and a movie or two. They also spent a fair amount of time at the ice cream bar! Your girls will have a great time!

We recently went on the 10 day cruise. I was also worried about my DD17. She is outgoing once she gets to know people, but meeting them is usually hard for her. Make sure your DD goes to the Stack the night the cruise embarks. My DD17 said they play several games that introduce everyone. That night she met several girls her age. She did the activities with us during the day including early seating at dinner and then the show following. Once those were over, she went to the Stack and usually stayed out until it closed around 2:00am. Hope this helps!!

I'm open to any and all recommendations...

I can't really tell you, since we never saw them!

Hey jgalecpa! LOL!

I read about you last night!
You were spoken very highly of on the cruisers list for 20051224 thread. You should check into the thread and say hi if you haven't already...

;)

DD LOVED The Stack! I really saw her only at dinner. We did arrangee that we'd do dinner as a family each night. Otherwise, she slept till noon and partied till 1 am in The Stack.

Last summer my DD17 went to the stack and met people and then hung out with them all week. They usually stayed up to 2am or later (mine came in at 2). If you get to know some people on your cruise (use these message boards to get started) it can help her meet some people before she gets there. My teen DDs love the cruise and have sailied for the last 3 summers.

My DD 17 son in January looked so depressed during the kick-off party and I began to worry (especially because it was his Make-A-Wish). We took him to the Stack in hopes he would want to re-visit on his own. To our surprise.....we very very rarely saw him the rest of the cruise. I had to demand he meet us for dinner. He sometimes didnt come in until after 2am (of course I wasnt too thrilled about that) but where could he go...ya know??? Anyway, there is tons of things for the kids....i.e. karaoke, treasure hunts, movies, excursions etc. We are going again this January and since it will be just him and I....I have begged him to spend some time with me and go to the shows!

Hey, i'm a teen, and i've already been on two cruises already...

and i LOVE the teen areas. I haven't been on it since they changed from Common Grounds to the Stack, but i'm sure it's basically the same.

Castaway Cay is awesome, since they have a teen beach and we have it all to ourselves.

They will be kept very busy (at night especially) since there is a dance every night until, like 1-2am. It's so much fun.

I WISH the teen we had with us did that!! She was MISERABLE!! She hated the stack, did nothing but sit around inthe room crying wanting us to fly her home becuase she was so bored....we really thought she would love the stack but she went the first night and then the second day and didn't go again...I am sure it was her though and not the Stack since most others like it there!

Aprilgail2: My Mom called from the Wonder and invited my daughter's best friend to join us next year...your teen's issue is EXACTLY why we got the extended invitation.

All your replies are very reassuring & I thank you again...

Only 15 months to go:crazy:

Disneygirl421: Hey neighbor!
We recently attended the TRN softball tournament, gotta love the shore. :wave2:

We took our 14 year old on a cruise with us in March (non-disney) and he had a great time. It was the first time he vacationed without his brother and sister. We wanted to spend "quality" time with him alone since he is a teenager now, so we promised each child a solo cruise with mom and dad when they become teenagers. I had all these grand plans to spend hours talking, playing games, etc. We did have some awesome conversations but he was a little too "busy" for ol' mom and dad. We sailed Celebrity and they did not have even 1/10th the amount of activities that Disney does but he still made friends and kept busy. He played basketball for hours and hung out. He still emails a few of the kids he met.

I think your teens will have a great time.

The only reason my now 17 ds wanted to come on this cruise with us is because he had so much fun on the Wonder when he was 15. He loved Common Grounds and he's looking forward to spending the majority of his time at The Stack this November cruise too. On our '02 cruise, he'd rush through dinner just to get back to Common Grounds ! lol

since my daughter already replied to this, { dsgirl421} i'll just say that she too came in at 1:30 am cause that's what time the dances were over. ! she had been communicating with some of the teens we found out were going on our cruise from th who's going list. this will be a cruise of a lifetime. have a great time.
