I REALLY LOATHE this Extreme couponing show. It makes all of us 'REAL, HONEST, RULE followers' who use coupons look like a bunch of scam artists.

I have noticed a few threads started lately about how people dislike this show. I have participated and gladfully badmouthed this channel- I really do dislike it when people bennifit from other people's failures. I hate it that this show is made for ratings, NOT for any type of 'educational knowledge' that people can gain from watching it.

No matter HOW MUCH all of us dislike this show, nothing will change by simply complaining about it over and over again to our friends, to our co-workers, or even just to each other here on the Disboards.

I found a usefull website today http://corporate.discovery.com/contact/viewer-relations/

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...if you dislike this show, if you feel that it is providing all of us couponers a DIS-Service (pardon the pun)...SEND THEM AN E-MAIL and complain to them. PLEASE, do not only SEND THEM THE E-MAIL...PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not get sucked into watching the show. They are looking for ratings. If people stop watching it, they won't show it anymore!

Sorry, but I really don't care if they continue this show or not. I think most people understand reality shows are pretty fake to start with and tend to feature extreme personalities. They can be entertaining ;)

That said, I also believe that TLC has become really low brow and don't watch it much anyway.

HI! I tuned in last week. This woman bought $1,000.00 worth of stuff! 10 boxes of cereal, 25 cat liters, 19 cans of apple juice etc. etc. They literally had 4 shopping carts filled to the brim. Her cost after coupons was .31 cents. With that said, the part I despise is, it took the cashier 1 hour and 30 minutes to ring all the coupons up! Now what about the people waiting in line behind her!? Who the heck wants to wait 1 hour and 30 minutes to check out!!??? UGH!!

I watch the show but I also know that stores are not following their polocies most of the time, due to the show being filmed. Most stores have a limit of how many items you can buy at once if they are on sale or how many coupons they will accept and so on.

As far as how long it takes someone to check out. If I saw someone with 4 carts, I wouldn't be standing behind them.

Yup, you are an idiot if you stand behind someone for over an hour and a half while 50 others that show up after you have gone through another line....

An hour and a half? I hope she didn't buy any ice cream.

heh heh ! Good point. I truly think it's an obsession. These people have small warehouses in their home to hoard their STUFF that they bought via coupons! :confused3 Coupon overload if you ask me... LOL

Does freedom of speech and expression really bother you that much? That's really sad.

When 'freedom of speech and expression' messes with my life and the lives of thousands of others who also use coupons, yes- it does bother me. I also have read the other threads that are all about disliking this show. I was doing THOSE PEOPLE a service by posting the link to the network so they could voice their opinions. By showing others how to voice their opinions, I see that as MY FREEDOM of SPEECH and MY EXPRESSION...why are our negative feelings for this show not considered OUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH...do we not have the right to complain about it???? It's a two way street.

99% of couponers are NOT like the ones on this show. Many people on these boards agree with me 100%. This show makes ALL couponers look bad.

If someone/something/tv show is doing things that bring a way of life to light and make it look bad for the rest of us...that is not bennifiting anyone but themselves. It is not so much 'freedom of speech' it is more like "lets see how we can make fun of someone today"...yes. I have a problem with it.

I've actually never seen the show. I can understand how being able to use coupons to get that much for free seems to be stealing. I would love to figure out how to stock up on some things like soap, shampoo, and toothpaste. I'm thinking saving money on 3 or 4, not 50!

:thumbsup2

Also remember that in some ways television shows are a reflection of us. networks make their money from sponsers ala commercials. Companies buy add time on shows that are the most popular. Reality shows have to be over the top in order to get viewers. I mean really would you follow a show about my boring trips to the supermarket? :rotfl:

I don't think the extreme couponers are really an issue for most of real life. The most that I've seen around my neck of hte woods is the supermarkets now put up limits so people can't come in a buy an entire shelf of tooth paste but other than that, I think their impact is relatively small.

I've never seen the show, but I don't see how it messes with your life. I occasionally will use coupons, both before the show aired and since then and the coupons work the exact same way, so my life hasn't changed any.

I wouldn't say it messes with my life but it does affect my shopping. The problem is that many of the stores have changed their coupon policies after the show aired. The frustrating ones are when a store has a $5 off 10 items deal and you have coupons, but the limit on like coupons is 4. Many of the coupons are lower value and have limits as well. It may be coincidence, but many of these changes occurred recently... Also, more people seem to think it is okay to "clear a shelf" because they saw it on tv. Thank goodness for rainchecks!
