No need to show it beforehand. I just put it in the credit card slot on the check holder.
Sometimes when the server asks if I'm on the DP, I will tell them I have TIW. Some people theorize that this isn't a good idea b/c then the server knows they are guaranteed an 18% tip. I haven't found that to be an issue though.
same here......They usually ask are you on the dining plan and we say no the TIW instead.......they ask for the card and that is it......we have had great servers with this and without it....
Have a great time
Sometimes our servers won't ask anything. When they do, we say we are on TIW. They almost never ask for the card then, but just take it when we enclose it in the credit card holder with the bill.
As an aside, we have NEVER been asked to show any ID when using TIW. Others report exactly the opposite. So have your drivers license handy just in case..
TIW is not a dining plan. When they ask when you enter the restaurant, or if you are first seated, if you are on a dining plan they're talking about the Disney Dining Plan and they want to know so they can ring up your check as a dining plan bill, and so they can explain to you what's included or not included on your particular plan.
When a server asks me if I am on a dining plan I say "no." Then I present the TIW card when paying the check. I never tell them ahead of time that I have TIW unless I'm with a party that needs the checks split.

Ah, right. I misunderstood from the post I quoted...thought they were referring to the DDP. Bummer that TiW has an auto-tip. I usually tip 20% (easier in the head to calculate ). I'll likely be getting a TiW card, myself, in a couple of months.

You can always adjust the tip to higher (or lower if necessary). Usually the server will ask at the start of the meal if you are on any type of dining plan or if you have any other discounts. That helps them already have the adjustments when they bring out the ticket at the end of the meal.
As this has become a thread about tipping on TIW, I'm going to have to close it. All tipping discussion is contained on the Tipping Information sticky thread. But I don't believe you can adjust a TIW tip lower unless you consult a manager and have it lowered; an automatic tip is part of your bill.
