Tivo Or Is There Something Better?

We got tivo on our HD cable box. I don't think it even costs us any more than our original cable box. We love it! We've also gotten netflix recently and we love how you can instantly download a lot of shows through our wii.

The only downfall is that it is so difficult to watch live programming! I find myself wanting to fast forward through commercials. Sometimes, I will even rewind the program a bit just so that I can eventually fast forward through the commercials! :rotfl:

:rotfl2:

I do this too! There were a few months when we didn't have a DVR at all and I was constantly trying to ff through shows because I had gotten so used to them being recorded.

I also sometimes wait a few minutes before starting to watch a show so I can watch it w/o commercials

TiVo all the way!!

My thoughts exactly !! We have 2 with life time subscriptions.....even now that you would have to pay the monthly fee it's worth it.....after all you can watch what you want when you want and fast forward thru the commercials...that to me is worth it....time is money!:goodvibes

As far as cable provided ones, I liked the Comcast one better, but find that they were both as good as the TIVO...and don't have to be updated like the TIVO did through a phone line. (the new ones may be different, but ours needed a phone line). Our updates required us to do it manually because we couldn't dedicate a phone jack to it (long story). .

This did change years ago with TiVo. You can connect it wirelessly and it automatically updates the TV schedule in the middle of the night.

BTW, our lifetime subscription has paid off BIG TIME. At the time it was about $400-$500 including the box itself. It sounds like a big outlay, but $12 per month x about 78 months = $936.

We have a DVR through our cable company, Charter. I love it. It is the first DVR we've had so I can't compare to other services. We pay $10/month for our DVR.

We have Charter here in Ct and i cannot express enough how much I hate them. We pay $15 per month for the DVR. I'm looking for ways to get rid of them, but they are the only cable company in our area.

Why use netflix through the Wii when you can use netflix from Tivo? Netflix on Tivo is built right in, and unlike Wii is HD capable.

That Tivo can streamline both Netflicks, which I subscribe to, and Blockbuster, where we do in-store rentals, was a big selling point with me. The Wii is going to run a couple of hundred dollars anyway for something that I would not otherwise use since I am not into video games.

Just know if you buy the HD tivo to stream netflix you will need the tivo wireless router or run an internet cable to the tivo.
